If I'm reading this right the US is buying Gepards FOR Jordan, not from Jordan.

        >Interestingly, the funding for this acquisition comes from the Fiscal 2010 Foreign Military Sales (FMS) under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative.
Seems some of the funding was attached to a 2010 bill for Ukraine, nothing to do with the current situation.

You can tell from the radar, the German one looks like pic related, the Jordanian/ex-Dutch ones looks like in the op

does this mean the US is paying for 60 Gepards to be built in Jordan so they can take 60 old Gerpards for Ukraine?

You're not. About a year ago they bought all of Jordan's Gepards for thrice what Jordan initially payed Germany for them. I'm pulling this 300% markup out of my ass, but Jordan did sell them for more than they bought them for.

Does anyone have a single news source or bill or anything saying the US is buying Gerpards for Ukraine?

Supply vs demand baby. Initially: these are out dated systems, give them to Jodan. Now: These are exactly what we need to combat cruise missiles and UAVs. Every country should be heavily investing in building and desiging SPAAGs

Did the Kuwaiti T-72 tanks turn up? There was a lot of initial reporting, but then other people believe that they weren't going to Ukraine.

Ukraine needs more of everything, even the BMP3's that Korea is holding onto would be useful. USA needs all its allies to dump their extra material on Ukraine now.

      Anonymous

There's also a frickton of old tanks available in the Middle East, like Chieftains and Centurions.
Greece is selling tons of older F-16s, Mirage and F-104.
SK has a ton of 105mm artillery shell and is transitioning fully to 155mm. They could buy all the 105mm ammo and howitzers from them to finance K9s.
But there's no will to do all that. Czechia can't even get money for their ammo initiative. West is sadly weak and does the bare minimum for the show.

      >Wait, Americans can own tanks?
Bongs have an easier time buying them and registering them for road use but yes claps can own tanks.
This is extremely common with most western nations being cool with civilian tank ownership.

Last time i heard about the Gepards was that Ukraine has plenty of them already, but its the ammunition that has been the problem (in part due to swiss going muh neutrality)

    Was this fixed already?

Okay, thats good. I assume 35mm production is not as bottlenecked as the 155mm is then.

It isn't anymore now that Rheinmetall's 35mm line is operating. I think they're planning to expand it into a secondary 35mm line in different factory, the main line is in their biggest facility in Germany.

no the german ones were updated with a few more modern features I think. The ones from
jordan are also old dutch ones which have a bit small tracking range like 13km instead of 15km in the german standart version

nice, i remember my father telling me about these, he was a gunner in the bundeswehr for the gepard way back when, stationed in the rhineland. He told me they would always park their ass on top of a mountain along the rhine valley near Lorch and start aiming at civilian aircraft flying by just to scare the absolute shit out of them, back then they were still allowed to fly through the valley kek imagine having a nice, relaxing fly by in your widdle propeller bird and just seeing the twin 35s turning at you and the radar spinning the morons must have shit themselves
