Honestly you'd have a decent argument to sue them for letting you leave your life in the US and your job to join the Bundeswehr when they legally couldn't hire you.

    Not memeing, contact a lawyer.

Yeah, they might get away doing this to a thirdie, but you can't do this to an American and not expect some legal consequences.

USMC motor T stationed in Okinawa in the mid to late '90s got out and joined the army in 2002 and ended up driving deuce and a half and 5-tons in Afghanistan.

Left the marines as an E-4 after 8 years.
Joined the Army as an E-1 and left as an E-3 after 4 years.

        Should I be a marine?

Not guaranteed unless you've got some crazy ASVAB scores or some very particular niche skillset that they need and you'd probably need both good ASVAB and that particular niche skillset.

You can trade bases at the end of tech school. If you get a general career field selected before going to BMT and don't like your AFSC, you can trade them soon under a new program.

Get good ASVAB scores and get a job written in your contract. Specific jobs have a select few bases they go to.

If you want a guaranteed base, join National Guard or the Reserves.

So I need a job first? Do I get paid during training? Would that be enough to move out. I'll also need a car though.

you don't "need" a job to join the guard/reserves but you will be homeless very fast without one unless you find a full time NG/R job
yes you get paid during training and exercises

                Anonymous

You get paid AD pay when in the training pipeline. You'd need to find another job once you get to your base. Once you hit SSgt (easier in the National Guard and Reserves), you can get a full-time DoD civilian job that performs your role (they call it "technician"). You can also get Active Duty orders as a Reservist, so you work full-time. Those opportunities are few and far between, though.

It makes more sense to do Active Duty first, then try to get out as soon as possible and join an ANG unit. Talk to a recruiter, but have a spine when doing so.

You should be able to get a US military legal assistance attorney for free for serving in the marines. If you talk to them, they can give you better advice and possibly get you a legal corespondent in Germany.

I recall hearing about, though it's possible it's muddied memories mixing together into one, that the Marine tankers were offered to move to the Army depending on open slots for skill retention. Did that not happen? If I'm having a moron-episode don't hesitate to tell me

No idea about the marines, but the army has.

      > Mobile Protected Firepower
      > On June 28th, 2022, the Army selected GDLS Griffin II light tank as the winner of the MPF program with an initial contract of 96 vehicles.

Also the OMFV (Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle) program includes GDLS as one of the 5 competitors.
      > Point Blank Enterprises, Oshkosh Defense, BAE Systems, General Dynamics Land Systems and American Rheinmetall Vehicles. The total value of the contract was $299.4 million. Teams will develop concept designs during the 15-month long phase
and should be finishing that 15-month phase in the next month or so.
