Japanese wood carvings -

こっぱ人形

I've been searching for PDFs and youtube videos of people carving them but can basically find nothing.

Anyone know if there's any books/videos at all?

It just looks like whittled figures. You can probably just learn basic whittling technique and try to copy the style. Also you are a gay.

They're not hard to make but I want to know the traditional Japanese way to do it.

I dont get you comment since I very much enjoy Scandinavian whittling and now am interested to see how they do it in Japan back in the day.

    >translate "how to make" to japanese using google translate
    >input result+こっぱ人形 in youtube
    >open first result
as a person with 0 experience and with absolutely no knowledge of how whittling is done in the west, it's just exactly the way I'd do it if I had to
I'm sure you can guess how it's done if you are allergic to googling things for yourself but if not just follow the step by step guide I provided
    >inb4 bandsaw is not traditional
change that for a nokogiri or whatever you weaboos use instead of real tools if you really want to and that's probably 100% how they used to do it before they were (culturally) colonized by the west

      >allergic to googling

You stupid Black person. That's the first video that shows up when you search for こっぱ人形 and they're not showing the whole process.

Bandsaws are for boomers and fat Americans.

        >>and they're not showing the whole process
        >sketch figurine
        >saw orthogonal projections
        >carve details in
        >paint
if you need more instruction than that you would never do it anyways

          >if you need more instruction than that you would never do it anyways

The process is important. An idiot can take a bandsaw and a dremel and make it in minutes. I'm not interested in that.

I want to know how they make it from start to end.
