Jagdpanzer IV with L/70 and sideskirts was fucking cool. I just love the overall aesthetics and its extreme low profile.

How the fuck is that a premium in WT?

Simply because it's a strange rare prototype, I'd say. But then again there only ever were two 10,5cm SPG "Dicker Max", and yet they're normal in the game.

I think it's because it used to be a normal tank but it didn't really fit the tree.

It's as if the germans wanted to repair broken powertrains.

The Pz3 N is a more egregious example.

It actually did fine, though the basic chassis wasn't overburdened at the front, additional armor added in later iterations did that.
          >The Pz3 N is a more egregious example.
I can at least see how that one stands out. I even have it. Probably got it through the war bonds shop rotation at some point because I don't spend money on WT.
Kinda lost interest in the last years because I really don't care about all the modern shit they keep adding.

PS: Due to how it handled from the heavy weight at the front it was called Guderian's duck. Maintenance issues don't seem to have been too bad though.

because it's a make-believe video game and the developers decided it to be

I wonder how effective the periscope gun device was.

It wasn't very effective. It had wildly increased recoil that made prolonged fire impossible. It also had an unintended side effect of shattering bullets while curving up the barrel, turning it into a shotgun.

Both of those points seem negligible. They were made for short bursts around corners while street fighting, the shotgun effect might have actually been nice there.
Though I distinctly remember that there were 2 versions of it and one had an a lot less extreme angle.

There was the 90 degree angle barrel equipped with tank destroys, and a 30 degree angle barrel for infantry to shoot around walls or up over cover.
The US army developed their own version of the Krummlauf after WW2 and abandoned it after it produced terrible results.

An stg44 and a smg probably behaved pretty differently. Heavy rifle bullet vs pistol bullet.
