Mass produce it, redesign it for semi-fixed artillery (no shoot-n-scoot but no 777 redeployment time either)
    Aiming for dug-in treeline warfare
    Each towed by any 4x4
Mass deploy and camouflage them in the treelines
Direct hit Ruzzians as they come
Lose a few ? Who cares ? there's so many more hiding

what counts as modernizing and what counts as an outright redesign?
You could put a magazine/revolver/autoloader so it can do follow up shots without crew directly reloading
You could add automation so that they can be remotely controlled and concealed in ambush positions

Is that within the scope of modernizing, or does it become a completely different gun by then?

all it needs is better wheels and drone feedback for firing and you're done, it's viable

Rebarrel HMS Belfast with modern 155s and CIWS at her 4 inch AA stations then use her as a riverine arty battery in ukraine vulnerable to missiles sure but counterbattery fire is less of a threat to a platform designed to resist 6 inch AP

There are places in the world where they're still using muzzle loading black powder artillery to hurl shells, so yes just about any gun can be turned to some use, the real problem is keeping it fed.

Use a discarding sabot to fire a sub calibre projectile.
I'm thinking a .50 AE, the entire round including casing.
Call it the Canon de 75 modèle Science de l'ouverture, because it fires the whole bullet.

You could probably make a stackable HE shell, like a shell that can be screwed on top of another shell ect to double or triple the HE payload. That way you can have really large payloads for short range work but lighter ones for harrassment use.

Make a rocket shell with stackable charges while you are at it.

Just do what the Germans and Americans did with the French 75. Mount on existing carriages or second line platforms. Amazing to realize the all the American 75mm guns used the same 75x272R case.
