It's WW3, you're on the front lines, and can opt to not do ONE combat role. What do you pick?

        >It happened in Afghanistan all the time, are you high?
        It did not
Yes Insurgents did make tunnels but firefights usually didnt happen in them
Most of the time they just got bombed to shit until the tunnels collapsed or were blocked off with cement
We are also talking about ww3 and not some Insurgency

          >Rather than clear the trenches man by man, the Americans simply plowed through the Iraqis on combat earthmovers, even burying some defenders alive as they tried in vain to shoot the bulldozers.

"For all I know, we could have killed thousands," Col. Anthony Moreno, commander of the brigade that led the assault, told The Seattle Times. "I came through right after the lead company. What you saw was a bunch of buried trenches with people's arms and things sticking out of them."

The Americans suffered zero casualties in the assault, as they were all inside of armored vehicles and the Iraqi ground forces had no answer to them. As the Iraqis watched their comrades buried alive, they began to surrender en masse.

Some 70 miles of trenches were plowed over in a matter of hours. About 2,000 of the 8,000 defenders surrendered. It's not known just how many Iraqi soldiers were literally buried in the onslaught.

Tell that to my friend. Brother to a twin, he went army while brother went air force, one of them made it back, the other died in some shitty cave trying to make something of himself. Tunnel, cave, I'm not arguing semantics but I AM arguing you're wrong. It didn't happen often, but it fricking happened. We miss you Russel.

Nobody is flying drones into tunnels. Tunnels are what will be used to counter drones, which means until we can deploy tunnel crawling drones, we will have to use people and dogs as a stopgap.

My dad is good friends with an old tunnel rat.
I think all said and done he did three tours, it broke him.
When he came back from the war, they put him on 1000mg of lithium daily to keep him on the level.
He took that for thirty years before his wife convinced him to try tapering off it once. The police found him walking down the side of a highway, sobbing uncontrollably, pounding millers, crushing the empties against his head and dropping them behind him.
He was all bloody and snotty and obviously fricking wrong in the head, so the police handcuffed him and had him lean against the car.
Apparently he rotated his one wrists in the cuffs til the chain between them were taught, then flexed and broke the links.
The police were talking to him and he scratched his nose all of a sudden and returned his hand behind his back, the police freaked the frick out like "HOW?!" and tased him.
Brought him to a local psychiactric instutute, held him for two weeks until someone from the military came with two other high ranking officers and demanded his release.
That one blip began a downward spiral, unfortunately. Divorced, lost his job, lost his house.

The police are letting him live in a van in the station parking lot because despite his problems he's a great guy, doesn't cause problems for anyone.
He gets his mail delivered to the station, still has his pension, etc.
Pops offered to let him live in his basement, but he apparently prefers the police station.
He says it's not bad at all, nobody messes with him, he has coffee every morning with the cops, says he's "Keeping an eye on the place while they're on the job."
He's told me stories now and then about the tunnels but it brings him to a dark place so honestly I don't ask anymore.

Nah, I mean I've met the woman, I understand why she split.
He was having some slight side effects from the meds, it's just that nobody expected him to go full-blown manic depressive, nobody knew how bad it would be.
She didn't get anything from the divorce. They were together for 20+ years, she's still single, as far as I know she still calls him and tells him he can always come live with her if he'll just stop drinking.
He doesn't hate her or anything. He doesn't hate anyone.
He's really a great guy, it's just that he's also sort of like an electrical cord someone hit with a lawnmower and left plugged in out in the rain.
You can splice it back together and tape it up and it'll probably still work fine and all, but the damage is done and you probably should just let it be.

Women will never understand the desire that all men have to dig underground. We don't necessarily want to live underground, but a man will never turn down an opportunity to at least dig a large hole.

Eh, none that really are very good.
You have to keep in mind that a lot of the time when he was talking to me about the war, it was all loose and disjointed stuff, or it'd take a turn and his eyes would kind of glaze over and I'd start talking about football or something instead because I didn't want to make him dwell on it.
Like, he'd start off a story and it would be about the first time he smoked weed, and he'd say "Yeah that was me and my buddy Bobby, but then a week later Bobby took cover behind a tree when we came under attack and wouldn't you know it, bullet went right through a foot of wood and caught him clean between the eyes." and that would be the end of the story.

Regarding his time in the tunnels, he said it was always better to put the flashlight in front of you first, because one time he pushed his head through an opening into a room and someone wrapped a cord around his neck and tried to choke him out. He said if you put the light in first way out in front of you and swung it around, the most they'd be able to grab would your arm, but you would still be able to put a bullet in them.
He also said a revolver was a waaaay better bet instead of a semi-auto gun, because the semi's would get jammed up with dirt and shit between the hammer and pin, and if you pushed it into someone's gut it wouldn't fire when you pulled the trigger.
Later in the war I think he was in some form of spec ops group or another.
Once he showed me his paperwork, but then he said "And now let me show you my REAL paperwork!" and he pulled out another copy of whatever form it was, and the name, date of birth, etc. were all the same but his serial/ID number was just a series of zeros. I have no idea what that was about.
I think that might be why the govt. came and got him out of the mental institution - it wasn't like they asked nicely for his release (he called my pops to give him a ride home which is how I know about this), they came there and DEMANDED he be let out.

I'll try. It's hard to bring it up.
The dude is like 70+ now, and still a bear of a man (I would absolutely bet the guy lives to 100), but he's also like a hippy grandpa stereotype, very fun and happy, and when you're hanging out with him you just want to do fun shit like drink beer and play horseshoes, and you really quickly forget that he's probably stabbed, shot, and beaten a bunch of guys to death underground.
