The m777s have also been devastating. There's something like 200 of them in theater now, in daily use. Vatnigs have killed two of them. It was fun watching shade being thrown on russia this week over the fact that they have not managed to find or kill even one HIMARS.

I'm giving an honorable mention to the fact that Hellfire systems have been integrated into Ukrainian MiGs and have been wreaking havoc on vatnig AA for about ten weeks now. What a beautiful Frankenstein solution.

      >The m777s have also been devastating.
That's surprising. The M777 is a super refined 155mm artillery piece but it's still fundamentally a howitzer. How bad is Russian recon these days?

        Anonymous

        >How bad is Russian recon these days?
Seems to depend upon the section of frontline being evaluated. Somewhere between Bad and Non-Existent.

The m777s have been a massive pain to vatniks because they are so easy & fast to move. Which was the entire point of providing them to begin with. No joke, there are only two known kills of m777s. They are that hard to spot and that easy to move & hide.

The second part is the 155 mm ammo. There are a number of variants for specific purposes ... and mostly they land within about 5 meters of whatever is being targeted up to about 80 kilometers away. Fundamentally, the m777 out-reaches most russian artillery by 30 to 50 kilometers so they just keep pounding vatniks from outside their return fire range.

As of about two weeks ago, the U.S. had provided one million 155 mm artillery shells to Ukraine. That does not count all the ammo sent by other countries. There are several 155 mm platforms in Ukraine now, standardizing on NATO specifications. All benefit from the quantity and the variety of ammo options, but the m777s are throwing the large bulk of 155 right now. And it's precision strikes, not random spam "sort of near where we think they might be." Some of these vids we see where a tank is getting one-shotted by artillery are m777s being dialed in by drone spotters.

My original comment wasn't meant to say the m777s were more effective than what OP proposed. I was pointing out that they have been performing nearly all day and all night every day & night for months. They have racked up a huge number of kills plus general mayhem and carnage. Their impact on the battlefield has been quite serious, and highly cost-effective for how hard they are relentlessly punching.

Vatniks will launch 1000 shells in a spray & pray spam tantrum, yet will do less actual damage than 100 well-placed m777 shots. It's "only 155 mm artillery" until you realize that something like 19 out of 20 shots land directly on the target.

No there are already 20 video proofed killed 777s, 30-50km is nothing when russia has 120km mlrs systems and 500km tactical missiles. Basically all nato shit can only survive until it spotted which is the main ru army weakness

Oryx has 16 destroyed 2 damaged M777 on the record + a pile of unidentified towed guns that could be anything. 2 destroyed were just recently. M777 is probably the least appreciated artillery system by Ukies as seen from their reactions (and how often it dies). Like of course you can't dodge a grad barrage on your gridsquare with that gun compared to Krab or Ceasar.

Kek, there is a reason why Ukraine wants German SPAs not something based on what was cutting edge in WW2.
      >BUT MUH AIR MOBILITY, MUH DEPLOYABILITY
Most countries are smart enough to figure out that if you are going to tow artillery with a truck you might as well just combine the two and call it a day.

one of the guys who was interviewed by the midget on "speak the truth" on youtube talked about this. Some Ukrainian mechanic was redneck engineering up battery packs for the Javelins for his group, and had like a car battery pack for the training one

    >Ukraine had previously been provided with only M31 Unitary Warhead missiles, which are "not ideal against targets spread over large areas, as the deadly chunks are not designed to fly far." As of early October they have been granted the M30A1 which uses the Alternative Warhead that can cover up to "half a square mile of land in a single salvo" with 180,000 tungsten steel BB sized balls

I didn't know they had shotgun missiles. Jesus.

I think NLAW should get some credit too. Really neat little anti tank weapon. Don't have to worry about holding high for distance, and built in windage adjustment. Cheaper than Jav, more portable, and better at closer ranges. Fills a nice little niche.
