Haha I’d shoot them WITH my GUN and then SHOOT them some MORE and then I’d shoot THEM on the ground UNTIL he DIES and then I’d CALL the police and SAY I just killed a MAN and YOU’RE next!

      >I've got french doors
How french? Are they holding a baguette, do they smoke a cigarette while drinking a cup of expresso? Do they surrender to your german neighbor each time he goes out?

Don't respond and wait for them to leave. If they don't leave after 15min just yell some shit about getting the frick away from my house without bothering to get up to check the door.
Always have a holstered pistol on me and a shotgun within arms reach at home anyway so no need to get any weapons out of the ordinary.

Someone standing at the door just staring at the door is almost more creepy than a stranger knocking.

But I won't know they're there anymore if they're not making a racket. Enjoy looking at a wooden rectangle for hours on end.

The unironic answer here that everyone should know but doesn’t for some reason is.

    >If someone is knocking at a weird hour, DO NOT ANSWER THE DOOR.

If it’s a friend they’ll call you, if it’s a neighbor they’ll come back at a normal hour. If it’s the police you’ll know it.

It is fricking ridiculously rare for someone to not have a cellphone, thus never needing to even talk to a random stranger at night for help in the first place.

Most B&E cases look something like this,

    >6PM-12AM
    >Random knock on door
    >Unassuming person is the one knocking
    >Usually a woman or someone cleanly dressed, but sometimes not
    >As soon as the homeowner opens the door, even for a split second to day go away or whatever, the rest of the B&E team comes from wherever isn’t visible from the door and forces their way in
    >this happens much too fast to possibly respond to
    >now they have you dead to rights and full access to your home, so anyone that even could resist is usually overwhelmed immediately

Do not open the door for people at night. Have cameras at your door. Do not ever assume the person is harmless because they’re a woman or drunk or look injured or whatever the frick.

This happens enough that’s it’s worth mentioning, and it can happen anywhere, even safe areas. If someone has a true emergency and won’t leave you alone, call the police and let them figure it out. All you need to do is arm yourself and make sure the person doesn’t break in.
