It's artillery obsolete?

Trenches provide a lot of protection from mortars. They can't even get these guys out. Other than poison gas what is needed here?

The need some plywood partially covered in outdoor carpet to roof the trench. It'd be harder to see casually.
If they were sloped it would cause the grenades to roll away or at least detonate too high to do as much damage.

I mean with more time there's a lot of improvement to be done for that trench. wooden wall structures, foxholes, bunkers etc, but for a quick, temporary position that's fine work.

When will seeing a video of something not working flawlessly and then making a thread on /k/ asking if it's obsolete become obsolete?

If you have to build a fighting position to hold territory then it's already too late for you.

How much better would they have fared just putting shit out in the middle of a field or soldiers just prone out in the open hoping for the best?

trenches have protected soldiers from artillery in the since 14th century. Just because there is a way to counter a weapon that doesn't mean it loses all use.

vatniks have advanced past the massed artillery barrage stage onto the gas attack stage. Soon they'll be rolling out the biplanes and metal boxes that move at 5 km/h
