It's actually pretty gay that "guy with metal tube" and "RC plane with gun" have made an entire century of industrialized warfare obsolete. It feels like we're going backwards from the era where nations would throw themselves into making the biggest and most magnificent tanks/jets/warships/etc. they could afford.

soldiers are obsolete because they can die :/
what does that say the the future of warfare ;'(

Bold claim to make. We'll see how an actual military handles it before making judgement. Russian incompetence doesn't mean anything.

I always felt like war would be a lot more kino if airplanes were impossible to make. Like if there was some law of physics that stopped air travel in general from working.

Quad copters on Mars, don't hold your breath against powered flight.

well yeah, of course it's never going to actually happen, and I don't even have any idea how such a world would work other than "there's magic in this world, the wizards made it so you can't fly". Drones dropping grenades on people was funny for like a week but now it's just lame and boring.

We're seeing war without airplanes to the highest extent possible in Ukraine. Jets are practically useless because AA demands they fly at the treeline.

        >We're seeing war without airplanes to the highest extent possible in Ukraine
because they didnt have any to begin with
they are only able to use drones because the enemy doesnt have jets to shot them down

the war would have lasted a few weeks at most if either side had a competent air force

        >Jets are practically useless because AA demands they fly at the treeline.
unescorted jets flown by idiots are useless
but ability to destroy AA has existed since the 60s
fighters exist as part of a larger system, including AWACS, ECW, and S/DEAD

russians have essentially nothing but fighters, leading to an inability to operate close to enemy weapon systems and relying on non-committal attacks, low-risk low-reward missions
they are useless because they have a single cog and none of the others

AA would be overwhelmed if there was ECW flying overhead to monitor anything shining a radar and DEAD to hit anything that does
and there would be SEAD flying overhead pretty much 24/7 to remind the enemy not to shine anything for too long

That's what I was saying? This war is practically planeless and you just described exactly why that is. Ukraine has almost no air force and Russia can't into SEAD.

this sort of issue in warfare has been around for a long time. wars aren't won by the most expensive technology, but the right kind of technology. you can look at the Battle of Agincourt when the dipshit English longbowmen absolutely murdered the French nobility in their expensive plate armor made with the best materials and manufacturing techniques of the era.

    >actually well trained airforce
now both of those things are ineffective

      Nah.
It just how first we had Radar. Then Radar Jammers. Then Radar Jammer Jammers.
Eventually everything will just be a endless fractal regression of Drone shooting Drone Jammers at Jammer Drones equipped with Drone Jammers.

of all the things you could hang from a small drone to engage the enemy, a gun has to be one of the least effective ones

There's always been the technology/doctrine/economy leapfrog though.
The mass wars of Rome giving way to the smaller countries and militaries of the dark ages, leading to the feudal period and the crusades where the church and islam could coagulate around a cohesive enough doctrine that people from more than one region could band together, to the later pre-industrial cabinet wars of private mercenaries and so on being so well armed and armoured that levying peasants to fight with sharpened sticks became irrelevant, then the early gunpowder period where small groups of men armed with what would have looked like magical boomsticks made that even more severe, then the industrial manufacture of firearms leads into the Napoleonic wars and conscription becoming a viable strategy and all of a sudden you have full on nation on nation total wars but no one really ever went to far as to take it to that ultimate extreme until 1945, at which time it started to wind down because you needed a big army for the fighting but not for occupying the annexed enemy territory because nukes make total war unwinnable, then jets come along and tanks are practically invulnerable to anything more than a few years old and constant upgrading is so expensive that it's better to just buy but the sellers only sell last gen stuff unless you're bffs and then they'll sell F-35's to you and now you can't even fight like the vietcong did because of a globalsed satellite network that'll track your heart rate from space and so on and so forth.
Give it another ten years, someone will figure out that you can just online propaganda to get enemy citizens to build bombs from shit they found at a hardware store and let them blow up their own civilian infrastructure and conflict will become a lovely wild west free for all again.

    >MUH SOUL
Motherfucker, war has never been glamorous or something to romanticize. The same line of thinking could be used equally for the crossbow, the cannon, the chariot, the handgonne, even fucking pikes.
And you're still fucking wrong, because now the tanks/jets/warships/etc become even more magnificent. They're probably much cooler than you realize. We're now into some scifi shit and nobody really seems to be aware of it.

    >The M1A2 SEP v3 Abrams weighs 74 tons, it contains more fiber optic cable than a server room, it fires programmable air burst rounds, and can mount optional ERA tiles if you're worried about the depleted uranium armor getting scratched.
    >The USS Gerald R. Ford is 253ft longer, 30,000 tons heavier, and infinitely more deadly than the Yamato.
    >Fire-and-forget anti-tank guided missiles are now considered *disposable* weapons.
    >Tanks are increasingly equipped with autonomously-controlled mortar systems that destroy incoming guided missiles by launching smaller guided missiles at them.
    >Within the last few weeks, the first air defense units started receiving Direct Energy M-SHORAD Strykers. The US Army can now shoot robots out of the sky using death rays.
Yep, anon. We live in era where war is a boring and soulless affair. The modern battlefield is a place where high-technology and the might of industry play no part and the unguided RPG and Alibaba drone are king.

Just because Russia can't use tanks doesn't mean everyone else can't either. Just because Russia can't use jets doesn't mean everyone else can't either. Just because Russia can't use warships doesn't mean everyone else can't either. Just because Russia can't use etc doesn't mean everyone else can't either.
