It's a trap!

Really good breakdown on the "Amnesty Plan", basically their plan is to take your additional info, run it through their ridiculous point sheet, say "Congrats, amnesty denied" and send you a bill for $200.

    >putting pistol braces on guns for anything other than a photo-op

      Anonymous

That's what I don't understand tbh, if I took off the brace and put on a regular Magpul stock, then it's officially an SBR and not a pistol right? To me that's the opposite of what it should be, if they want to ban pistol braces. So the whole pistol brace thing was ruled on and it was good to go like what not even a year ago?

        Anonymous

The pistol brace thing has never been "rule on" as in a blanket approval. ATFs position has never changed in that if you use a brace to circumvent the NFA, you've made an illegal SBR. The points system is just them trying to lay out the guidelines they'll judge a gun on. Shit is stupid but not realizing that the ATF has been pissed about braces for a long time is moronic.

That cracked out "blackbeard" ar went to court and was found legit didn't it?
Wasn't that found to be a legal configuration?
Does that count as legal precedent?

            Anonymous

If I remember right the court slapped the ATF because they intentionally measured the length of pull wrong to try to claim it was illegal.

The funny thing is SBRs are banned because they supposedly can be concealled...
And the ATF argued that that thing was an SBR and should be banned
But I would like to see anyone trying to conceal that fricking thing let alone any AR pistol or AR SBR

They aren't banned, it just takes you almost a year and an extra $200 to get your gun that should be no different from any normal 9mm Glock/Walther/Sig/Taurus/Whatever pistol.

I'm so glad the ATF had to make arguments against this thing in a court of law.

They were claiming that putting that little rubber stopper from a cane on the end of the buffer shroud thing made it an SBR

Thats an outright lie. Pistol braces were legalized due to a lawsuit from a handycap vetren.
Now, are all braces approved by the aft?
          No

You mean our rights shouldn't be infringed with arbitrary rules, correct?

I meant it in the context of what their goal is, I guess I worded it a bit weird. "If their goal is this, then shouldn't they be doing that", not that they should be doing anything at all other than disappearing.

I mean technically the government could ban everything short of muskets, black powder and lead and they wouldnt be infringing on right to keep and bear. Nobody said it was allowed to be modern or up to date

You know I've been thinking about this - to an extent, this is already true. You cannot practice free speech by freely broadcasting on radio; the FTC tightly regulates radio bands.

Except they kinda did, they specified that what "soldiers" have, you should have.

"Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Is it feared, then, that we shall turn our arms each man gainst his own bosom. Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an Americans" - Tench Coxe

what? 3d printing is free? What is so bad about something that's free?

          Anonymous

It's usually the garbage part that is bad, but 3D printing also obviously involves its own costs.

            Anonymous

What exactly in the scene is garbage? A lot of designs can take 1000's of rounds, to the point some people haven't found the life span endpoint of new lowers.

              Anonymous

havnt kept up with 3d. But wouldnt an easy to fabricate metal clam around certain weak points add structural strength ?

              >What exactly in the scene is garbage
Non-reinforced plastic, anything made of it. ABS is garbage, and PLA is independently garbage.

He makes his own designs, of course he's going to shill them (if you can count giving away something for free as shilling)

As for garbage, you're living in 2013 if you think it's still like that. 3D printing will completely dominate home gunsmithing the second the gov bans 80% receivers.

That wouldn't be bad at all though OP. The problem with the NFA hasn't been the $200 for a long time, and it becomes less of an issue with every passing year thanks to inflation. What fricking sucks is the 200-400+ day wait time. If I could pay FOUR hundred instead and have it instantly I would in a second. If all they do is send me a bill and then a stamp whenever and I get it the whole time that's awesome. None of us have any trouble passing background checks or whatever.

      Anonymous

Honestly that waiting period stuff makes ATF look very mismanaged, I wonder how many firearms they have in their registry that no longer really exist at all. A lot of SBR registration was done recently, using mostly AR lowers and other modern modular firearms that can easily transform between rifle, SBR, and pistol (although it's unclear if it remains an SBR while pistol).

$200 is a lot of money, isn't it

It's not really the money, say I bought a foxtrot mike for $550, that's almost half the price of the gun for an un-needed taxstamp.

    As a /noguns/ European,
what's even the point of these laws?
All the barrel length, stock, full auto laws and etc.
If someone wanted to do these mods he would not have weapon like that out in the public or on a display at home anyways.
Just put it together before your minecraft ops? Drilling probably would take the longest, whole 5 minutes if you are shit with tools.
I'm not encouraging it, all I'm saying is that they have these regulations specifically to avoid domestic terrorism while a person who's down that road will be able to throw it all together like an hour before showdown.
    So what's the fricking point.
    Correct me if I'm wrong

It's capital vs theory, really. Just making an SBR is not useful, making an SBR and training with it is.

      >So what's the fricking point.
Gun owners are the most law abiding group of Americans and support law enforcement the most. Imagine that smart nerd in class that never fricks up until he does and then gets hammered much harsher than needed by the teacher. He won't complain and all the other nerds won't back him up. Everyone else notices that and it sends a message to everyone in a way the class dickhead being a dickhead and getting busted for the 1000th time doesn't.

      Tldr; it's effective.

is the nuance behind regulations. What would you do to allow all law abiding citizens to be armed and effective in a possible gunfight, but prevent any future domestic terrorists or other criminals from accessing same tools and being effective in a gunfight that they initiate. It's an impossible task, but any differences between gun feature preferences of those groups are a possible target for lawmakers, even if it's insignificant points like pistol grips or barrel lengths.

Does the epa sc ruling not specifically negate the batfe from making new rules they pull out of their ass? Not that I think it will stop them but everyone seems to act like the brace point system is a foregone conclusion.

The real question is, do you have 2 million dollars to sue the ATF with?
And two to four years of your life?

        Anonymous

        Yes.

        Anonymous

No and no. Is it likely then that fpc or goa will have to sue to have the point system repealed or preferably an actual favorable precedent on the use of braces? If common usage is proven then ideally if all braced pistols are sbrs then sbrs are in common use and should be removed from the nfa; which shouldn't exist anyway. What I'm more curious about is how this affects those in states who can't own nfa items. Commiefornia doesn't allow sbrs even with a stamp so are braces essentially illegal in restricted states, if deemed a sbr by the batfe or does the cadoj have to pass their own bullshit laws?
