Italy wants another aircraft carrier

It has been formally presented the requirement by the navy for improving the Italian navy in terms of quality and ships.
https://webtv.camera.it/evento/21830

Beside the carrier, the navy also demands
2 more destroyers (for a total of 6)
1 support ship (for a total of 4)
2 other subs (for a total of 10)

I will leave my opinion, later, if asked, however beside this being a nice little trivia is yet another signal that the era of the "pax americana" is coming to an end, the next decades are gonna be brutal

And Italy has allies with bases all over the mediterranean. Buying another carrier is a shitty idea compared to buying more planes.

USA needs its resources shifted against China. A stronger Italian navy allows USA to shift some of those resources.

I doubt that. Italy will not deploy outside the mediterranean or europe, and carriers are not necessary there, italian or american.

Italy already operates on the concept of "Mediterraneo allargato"

In 2014 the country made its first base outside its territories since ww2, the base in located in Djibouti

Everyone needs a carrier for the game plan to work. During a War with China a lot of NATO nations will take up freedom of navigation patrols so the US navy can put all its eyes on Pacific.

Even if the challengers are dogshit, the American hegemony is openly challenged, and the pax americana has ended.
