so whats the point of this organizatonal strucutre, i get that italy doesnt intend on using its armed forces ever as its a cucked pacifist country and the army is for "self defence", as if that only entails someone invading you.
this army is very small so in a war of defence such as the one its intened for it wont exist anymore after a very short time as ukraine shows, basically all its vehicles are cold war era apcs or ifvs with an extremely small amount of tanks.
-almost no expeditionary capability and power projection to intervene in low intensity conflicts and no political will to do so anyway
-never seen combat since ww2 aside from extremey small token liasons sent to the sandboxes
-mostly comprised of people who went there because they EXPECT TO NEVER ACTUALLY HAVE TO SEE COMBAT and to just get a job
-little arty support, no pgms, almost no cruise missile, only 2 aewacs
-only decent parts are navy and air force but the planes are small numbers so in a real war theyll get attrited away quickly
-the navy can be useful for defending the mediterranean sea shipping and/or against an amphibious invasion or enemy carrier getting close to do airstrikes/do airstrikes itself
-it only has 11 line brigades, its small as frick
-i know neighbour countires arent hostile so the need for a land army is lower
-as youll see in the next pic the brigades have very low firepower, little firesupport and armor, yes i know its a mountainous country but it still seems undergunned and small
whats the point of such an army? its a tool, but it seems to me that theres no real purpose this tool has been made for
an entire brigade has 4 120mm mortars and 6 155mm arty tubes, it seems very little
you're reading it wrong, they have 12x 120mm and 18x 155mm
its 1 support company with 1 mortar platoon of 4 Mortars per batallion, 1 battalion per regiment + support units, and 2/3 regiments per brigade, so yes 12 mortars you're right, but still it seems very little organic support
and also 18 arty tubes you're correct, that seems a more decent number

>so whats the point of this organizatonal strucutre
To keep the core structure and skills alive so they can scale up if needed later.
but if you need the army you don't have time to build it up during war you need to have it already, I dont even know if those old cold war vehicles are even still in production if need be, otherwise it would be needed to buy from foreign nations
If we need an army there's NATO, surely they have a plan to work together while every nation ramps up its logistic and turns into an economy of war and is able to enlarge and sustain its own army
Shit doesn't hit the fan overnight unless you're sitting on a powder keg like the Levant or go full morono and start an invasion wholly unprepared (lolargentina). Interwar Pooland had 6 years to prepare in earnest, current_year Oinkrane had 8 years to get their shit together, etc.
true for conscripts and trained personnel but not sure for developing military industry, and problems aren't always telegraphed
also the Italian Gov doesn't have enough money to pay for it's own moronic "welfare" expenses so I dont think they could scale up the army anyway
what about skills?
is the training level good?
both for officers, ncos and troops, same for organization like logistics and planning, these aren't shown in the numbers.
maybe anyone here that has had joint exercises or has been in can give some info
pupmp
They just play pretend, armies are social welfare in europe, same reason why everyone is okay with sending everything to ukraine, they never expect to actually fight, that's what american meat is for, why waste your men in wars when you can waste amerimutts money and male population?
Good morning sirs! is true, they should consider the reorganisation of the army along same lines as as mighty BRICS superpower India
>this army is very small...
this assessment is useless because "small" and "big", "little" and "only" are meaningless words without a frame of reference
Here's one simple model through which to consider the Italian armed forces:
>Italy GDP: 2.1 trillion
>US GDP: 23 trillion
Italy's armed forces should theoretically be 1/10th the size of the US armed forces. in practice this is actually 1/20th because the Italian defence budget is proportionately about half that of the US defence budget
A standing army is essentially a moneydump for a somewhat wealthy European nation.
It's why only the US (world police), France (Africa police) and the UK (little boy world police) really invest heavily in their militaries. Most other places in Europe either have extensive buffer zones or are geographic nightmares.
The other countries that invest a lot into military are generally authoritarian shitholes, who need it to bully their neighbors and to play pretend empire.
Just consider this simple thing: If Italy spent as much on its military as Russia, would Italy be anything but even more of a shithole than it already is? There is no benefit to having a large military if you are just going to sit around. A competent coast guard, a few carriers and a small but competent air force and Italy is all set. Anything beyond that is burning money.
so it doesnt need armed forces bc it never acts using them and it doesnt have neighbours to defend itself from?
why do you say italy is a shithole?
