It takes over 8 years of daily driving just to reduce tesla batteries to 90%, even if you extrapolate linearly instead of logarithmically as the data indicates, you'd be fucking dead and your children using your inherited battery pack before its becoming useless.

It's amazing how willfully fucking retarded most of the people hating on electrics are. Not only completely clueless about the tech, but flat out making shit up about how they imagine it works, while insisting they'd all be running wood gasifiers and their own petrochemical plants that surely won't have any negative impact on the lifespan of their engines even if they do get them working.

wonder how many forests will have to be leveled just so 10,000 retards can run their wood gasifiers. Let alone millions.

It's incredible how fucking stupid people can be

Don’t know about oil in sand as I’ve never seen that but for gas you can create it with a wood gasified like everybody else has done in this thread, alternatively you can produce high proof ethanol that will suffice for the time, not gonna last as long or produce the same amount of power but it will run. For diesel oil it is just squishing the fuck out of it till lil comes out of whatever you have. Some thing make it easier like having a solvent but you can brute force it if you have to.

as it has been proven recently, fuel is the FIRST to go, almost immediately. Electricity is around forever, and even the store bought generic 330w panels can go a long way in making an electric car run forever

        along with:
        no motor oil needed
no diff damage if you run over a tree or something on the road (bottom of an electric car is perfectly flat)
barely any maintenance for an electric motor

Because getting the kind of power output you're going to want out of one requires elaborate design and extreme temperatures and pressures. Boiler explosions are absolutely catastrophic even at mid efficiency designs. The most exotic high efficiency designs may as well be a nuclear reactor. You're never going to built one let alone maintain it well enough to keep it from killing you and everyone you know when it goes. Not to mention the exotic designs maintain thermal input consistency through petrochemical fuel burners, not wood or coal fuel.

I love steam engines in all their forms but the only way you can think steam is a viable alternative for power generation and delivery is if you don't know much about it. They're a neat curiosity, nothing else now.

              > steam is a viable alternative for power generation and delivery is if you don't know much about it.

You may want to reword, because nearly 90% of all power generation is just steam power with different ways to generate the steam.

Every nuclear, coal, and natural gas plant is just a steam engine, pressure vessels and all, with differing methods to heat the transfer liquid past phase-change.

I suppose I could have been even more clear. I'm speaking of transmitting energy and doing work in a post collapse environment where you don't have hundreds of highly trained experienced technicians keeping shit humming. Like I also said nuclear is a great way to generate power but if you think you're going to be able to keep a reactor operating with jim bob and jeff next door you're delusional.

That's what I'm saying. Things like waterwheel powered generators are far safer and easier to deal with than the steam engines. Everyone likes to point to bleeding edge exotic level steam engine designs to get their efficiency and power output figures from then imply that those figures also apply to the simple steam setups a farmer/homesteader could build or maintain. Steam engines that aren't a goddamn bomb waiting to go off are going to have efficiencies and outputs that will have you quickly moving onto other methods of power collection and transmission.

Pretty much all batteries are two plates of metal with an electrolyte in the middle. Lead.sulfuric acid is the easiest to manufacture with no tooling (to the point random mudslimes in the middle east managed it before israelites were created), but there's already a few billion tonnes of lithium around that's dug up, and it's not too difficult to produce half-decent electrolytes that can handle Li+ transference. You did take chem II+ right, anon? You weren't a half-wit that got filtered by basic chem, right anon? Chemistry is the most basic science that can directly used in real-world applications with minimal tools.

Ford’s 1941 bioplastic Model T was made of hemp, flax, wheat, and spruce pulp, which made the car lighter than fiberglass and ten times tougher than steel, wrote the New York Times on February 2, 1941. The car ran on ethanol made from hemp or other agricultural waste. Ford’s experimental model was deemed a step toward the realization of his dream to “grow automobiles from soil,” wrote Popular Mechanics in their December 1941 issue and reduce greenhouse gases—already known to occur by then.

As opposed to what, a gasoline vehicle?

If we're talking about a civilizational apocalypse, electricity is probably preferrable to gasoline because it is easier to create an electric solar or hydro generator from the mechanical scraps of a dead civilization than it is to create the gasoline production chain. Any washing machine could be converted into a crude hydro generator to power electric vehicles.

Yeah, but not for the reason you think. Generating electricity off the grid is easier than making your own fuel; but those batteries will wear out after about ten years then its a brick.

      Anonymous

Making batteries actually isn't too bad, and there's no reason you can't gerry-rig a Pb/HSO4 battery pretty easily in a post-apoc scenario and hook it up. You'd be dropping max speed for nearly infinite batteries.
Also if LiS solid states prove to be useful, they're actually easier to produce than LiPo, especially with primitive tooling.

Also, with electric drive trains, you just need to generate the electricity. Put a steam generator in the bed and you have infinite electricity (assuming you can manage the water/fuel ratio throughout use.)

You can distil plastic to create liquid diesel and propane gas.
This is how most of the world gets their fuel, though often they
add in other chemicals to make the process easier. You'll have
to distill the liquid multiple times to get good diesel, the first batch
will be waxy. You can fuel the entire chain with propane gas, which
is a byproduct of the distillation process.
This is commonly done all over the world by uneducated farmers,
sailors, and people from deeply impoverished countries.
Vietnam farmers in particular have really impressive methods.

    >would be a bad idea.
Why? An electric vehicle can be charged from off-grid solar and wind. A gasoline vehicle is reliant on a continuous supply of gas from the vast, international drilling/refining/shipping infrastructure.

Both will eventually stop working for lack of repairs or simple age of all the relevant parts, but an EV + solar/wind is going to last you a lot longer than any gas vehicle.

Get a 3000 watt 800ah off grid tiny home kit from renogy or someone for $3000 it’ll run your entire house, for up to 6-8 days without sun. you can charge your golf cart with it too.

          >In the early twentieth century the mule was preferred to the horse as a pack animal – its skin is harder and less sensitive than that of a horse, and it is better able to bear heavy weights
          >The mule inherits from the donkey the traits of intelligence, sure-footedness, toughness, endurance, disposition, and natural cautiousness. From the horse it inherits speed, conformation, and agility.
          >Mules are generally taller at the shoulder than donkeys and have better endurance than horses, although a lower top speed.

Yeah except you can't breed them. You need horses and donkeys.

it is cool because I'm a cool guy. I'd ride around on the camel and the emu would follow us like in the Mad Max movies. if people asked me if the emu did any tricks I would say yes he bites.

What, you think gasoline is gonna stick around for very long if there was a worldwide collapse in supply chains? Gasoline has a shelf like of about 6 months. Diesel lasts about 2 years when treated, about a year untreated.

Buy a horse. Not only does it run off grass and water but you can eat them, if necessary at some point.
