Well it didn't help that they had the equivalent of many S-400s all packed into a single boat that managed to get distracted by a single drone and blown up by a subsonic missile manufactured by a country with a per capita wealth on par with Central America lol.

It's almost like packing an enclosed area to the gills with munitions is a bad idea.

The bridge is the most embarrassing one because it was an obvious target and had been hit before and they stationed AA right there and 30+ year old rocket artillery still cruised right through.

The rockets Ukraine is being given are older than the Russian Federation and are still raping their air defense.

They were the aggressor many times, had big foreign aid, used dirty and outright illegal tricks, and barely made it. It was very lucky and close call a few times, but impressive none the less.

              Anonymous

They were the aggressors in Suez and the 1980s Lebanon invasion. In the wars where they fought all their neighbors at once, 1948, Six Day, and Yom Kippur, they were defending. Arguably 1948 is a bit more of a mix, since Israel was attacking Palestinian positions offensively, but defending against all the Arabs.

Yes, Israel hit Egypt's air force first in the Six Day war, but this is after Israel said it would consider a naval blockade and act of war and Egypt did it anyway. Speeches by the presidents of Syria and Egypt right before the war literally said "war is immanent, we will invade and destroy them." Egypt also threw out UN peacekeepers and massed their forces on the border. At that point, it isn't a surprise stroke, it's just Arab moronation to think you can publicly declare war but that your opponent will stay on their side of the line until you're ready.

A blockade is an act of war. Imagine if China posted up its navy on the West coast and said any boats going in or out of the US would be fired up on lol. That is war.

It wasn't close, the wars were absolute routes. The Arabs got BTFO and lost a ton of land in Six Days despite way more soldiers, tanks, and jets.

The Yom Kippur War was a successful sneak attack by the Arabs. Can't get more aggressive than that. And yes, it was initially fairly successful, but within 72 hours the Syrians had routed and Israel was pushing into the Damascus suburbs. It ended with the IDF pushing into Damascus and the entire Egyptian army encircled and the road to Cairo wide open lol.

And before you screech about Nickel Grass and US resupply, the Soviet's gave more fighters and armor to the Arabs during the conflict than the US gave Israel. They just sucked, in part because Syria and Egypt kept lying to each other about how good they were doing, making them make stupid decisions.

                Anonymous

As for "muh America," America did shit in 1948. The Soviets were the big arms suppliers to Israel and it was mostly surplus Czech bolt action rifles (ironically with Swastikas stamped on them). The Israeli air force for that war was commercial planes with machine guns strapped to the side and improvised fire bombs to drop.

A military flotilla threatening to fire on any shipping is not sanctions. Sanctions is making certain types of trade illegal or punishing foreign corps who export to a country with fines, lack of access to your markets, or lack of access to banking networks.

Sort of, but Russia has also thrown shit fits over bombing and threatened to respond and never has. I think it's more that Israel is right there and has a huge advantage in things it can do to avoid AA, but also that Russian shit is also just trash. It obviously can't intercept missiles for shit in Ukraine and Russia had plenty of incentives to hit Israeli stand off weapons, and even claimed to, but rarely did.

For instance, they'd claim to have intercepted all incomming and then we'd get a picture of a base covered in craters or video feed from a missile going right into a pantsir lol.

the syrians used the exact same phrase of 'most missiles were intercepted' on every single israeli airstrike for years

it gets kinda funny when they say it about israeli ground to ground strikes (EXTRA missiles) where no syrian interceptors were spotted at all or airstrikes where you see pics of like 3-4 syrian interceptor launches but israelies launched dozens of rampage missiles (each plane carries 4 i think)

More likely they Russians are pulling troops out of Syria for deployment to Ukraine and leaving behind a skeleton of a garrison to nominally discourage NATO from just overthrowing Assad's government right now.

Frankly, if I were Bashar Al-Assad, I would be seriously reconsidering my geopolitical allegiances, because it's evident that Russia can't protect Syria and fight a full-scale conventional war in Ukraine at the same time. Same goes for Iran, although their situation is nowhere near as dire.

      >Frankly, if I were Bashar Al-Assad, I would be seriously reconsidering my geopolitical allegiances
Unless he can finagle China into accepting them as a vassal, and actually stationing a Chinese tripwire garrison in Syria, he's shit outta luck. Israel hates him because his dad didn't like Christ-killing israelites, which means the USA hates him, and there's basically no way for him to get on the West's side.

He doesn’t have many options but that doesn’t mean zero. He can do some kind of power-sharing / inclusion process for Western allies and turns against Iran and Russia. US would put bases in there if he asked. That essentially means West / US vassalage and he’d always be at risk if he ever tried to have it all as currently, but his government would at least survive that way. Right now he’s one US President away from regime change.

Eh, Israel isn't really in the direct regime changing business (they tried that in Lebanon in 1982 and it left as nasty taste in their mouths, in addition to nearly wrecking relations with Reagan Administration). The United States has lost two of the last three major wars it fought in the Middle East and the American public is in no mood for renewing hostilities in Syria. Saudi Arabia is currently losing a war in Yemen. The only country I can see willing to commit to mounting a full-scale invasion to depose Assad (what's left of the FSA isn't going to be able to manage it alone) would be Turkey and even then, that would require both a resolution of the Kurdish Question (in favor of the Kurds) and the rest of NATO's blessing.

I think Assad could probably cut a deal if he's willing to throw the Russians under the bus without a moment's hesitation. He might have to step down from power and hand it to one of his relatives and execute a few generals for war crimes, but his regime would survive.

          >The US lost two of the last three wars in the Middle East

First, Afghanistan is in Central Asia and is historically part of India.

Second, how did the US lose the second Iraq War? Just because the war was unpopular and Boomers kept saying it was Vietnam 2.0 doesn't make it true?

Did Saddam retake power? Did Baathists come back? Does Iraq not still have the same constitution setup by the US and have the same treaties and armed forces 20 years after the invasion and close to a decade after the US left?

People act like, for the US to win a war, it must not only defeat the enemy, but the enemy must live happily ever after and become a rich, modern state like Korea, Japan, Germany, etc.

The US defeated its enemy in Iraq. It policed the civil war and violence did eventually drop way down. You had ISIS, but they got BTFO out of Iraq with a light footprint and until Al Sadr, who is now our guy, started the latest shit it was relatively calm.

It isn't a happy ending, maybe more so for the Kurds, but it isn't the collapse of the US backed government. Sure, people the US doesn't like won elections, but they won elections using the US setup constitution in elections considered free and fair. This is like claiming the US backed the losing side in the Arab-Isreali wars because moronic hardliners won elections in Israel later.

People who say the US can't win wars post WWII conveniently forget Korea, Lebanon 1950s, the Dominican Civil War, Grenada, the Tanker War vs Iran, Panama, Serbia, Kosovo, Haiti, Iraq I, Iraq II, Libya, Uganda, Somalia II, and the destruction of IS in Iraq and Syria. Or they redefine a mission where the US meets all its goals but doesn't get sucked in and do nation building as a loss.

So we only hear about the faliures, of which there are less: Somalia I, arguably Yemen, Vietnam + Laos + Cambodia, Afghanistan, ROC vs PROC, Lebanon 1980s.

It doesn't help that the public only remembers wars if they go bad.

            >First, Afghanistan is in Central Asia and is historically part of India.

It's Middle Eastern by virtue of being a desert and majority Sunni Muslim. It also has a substantial Arab population, descendants of foreign Mujahideen fighters who decided to stay.

            >Second, how did the US lose the second Iraq War?

Thousands dead, trillions of dollars wasted, America's reputation flushed down the toilet, America having to go back there AGAIN because the American-trained Iraqi Army got rolled over by some sandBlack folk with black PJs and HD cameras. All so Iraq can become a puppet state of Iran and America could effectively lose its grip in the region.

Before his death, General Raymond Odierno, who was the US Army Chief of Staff, called Iraq a defeat and I take his word over assblasted neocons who still refuse to acknowledge losing in Vietnam.

NATO couldn't overthrow Assad in a million years.

You're mistaking unwillingness for inability. NATO could crush Assad tomorrow, it doesn't because no one wants to deal with the headache that would follow his demise. We're even half-hearted with arming his opposition. Obama was consistently blocked from providing "lethal aid" (a disgusting newspeak euphemism if there ever was one) in substantial quantities by overwhelming public opposition and Trump straight up tried to pull America out of Syria altogether and was forced to stay because of kvetching about the Kurds.

udgments upon Damascus and Samaria. The overthrow of the Assyrians.

[1] The burden of Damascus. Behold Damascus shall cease to be a city, and shall be as a ruinous heap of stones. [2] The cities of Aroer shall be left for flocks, and they shall rest there, and there shall be none to make them afraid. [3] And aid shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus: and the remnant of Syria shall be as the glory of the children of Israel: saith the Lord of hosts. [4] And it shall come to pass in that day, that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall grow lean. [5] And it shall be as when one gathereth in the harvest that which remaineth, and his arm shall gather the ears of corn: and it shall be as he that seeketh ears in the vale of Raphaim.

[6] And the fruit thereof that shall be left upon it, shall be as one cluster of grapes, and as the shaking of the olive tree, two or three berries in the top of a bough, or four or five upon the top of the tree, saith the Lord the God of Israel. [7] In that day man shall bow down himself to his Maker, and his eyes shall look to the Holy One of Israel. [8] And he shall not look to the altars which his hands made: and he shall not have respect to the things that his fingers wrought, such as groves and temples. [9] In that day his strong cities shall be forsaken, as the ploughs, and the corn that were left before the face of the children of Israel, and thou shalt be desolate. [10] Because thou hast forgotten God thy saviour, and hast not remembered thy strong helper: therefore shalt thou plant good plants, and shalt sow strange seed.

[11] In the day of thy planting shall be the wild grape, and in the morning thy seed shall flourish: the harvest is taken away in the day of inheritance, and shall grieve thee much. [12] Woe to the multitude of many people, like the multitude of the roaring sea: and the tumult of crowds, like the noise of many waters.

[13] Nations shall make a noise like the noise of waters overflowing, but he shall rebuke him, and he shall flee far off: and he shall be carried away as the dust of the mountains before the wind, and as a whirlwind before a tempest. For general history overall? Will Durant's Story of Civilization has great prose and covers the West from Greece to Napoleon. Also lighter coverage out to Persia. Start with The Life of Greece, the first volume is too broad.

But those are light on military history; Durant was a philosopher by education so he focuses on ideas. Iron Men and Saints by Lamb is great for the First Crusade. Oldenbourg's The Crusades is quite good too. Wedgwood for the Thirty Years War. Thucydides for Athens vs Sparta.

The audio versions of Wedgwood, Lamb, Thucydides, and other classics are all done by Charlton Griffin who is a good narrator.

My reading of it. In one last desperate attempt Assad is going to WMD the mob in Damascus but he then flees leaving the cities in Syria south of Damascus uninhabited and the south of Syria depopulated and abandoned, Damascus itself is ruined and never recovers.

Yeah but Mossad snuck into it and got evidence it existed and then the IDF glassed it.

      Just like Iraq's reactor.

all missiles were intercepted of course

Israel isn't moronic and doesn't say that though. In part because they have a free political system and so the opposition is able to leak military intel or publish pictures of the damage.

It's just that the Iranian rockets don't do much damage because they are not accurate and have a payload about that of a 105mm mortar, although some are significantly bigger.

The Israeli right actually overhypes these attacks. They will brag about the interceptions of course, but then harp on about damaged civilian infrastructure and "what if some kids HAD been playing right there." They publicize the shit out of any attacks that get through.

It's the Israeli left, who are out of power, who like to hype up interception. The idea being that, "no, we don't need to keep going hard on strikes because look how safe we are, missiles likely to actually kill people get priority and get stopped."

It's very different messaging. Syria, Iran, and Russia, it's a base getting fricking wrecked by an attack incoming dozens of missiles and dozens of fighters (although mostly using longer range weapons), and then the Syrian and Russian MOD saying "hey guys, we intercepted them all," only for high res drone footage to come out and feeds from the munitions as they destroy Russian AA systems.

With Israel it's a barrage of missiles, maybe even some fatalities, and some damage, but in every case fairly small beans, and they respond with: "OMG, MURDER AND PERFIDY! THIS EVIL ATTACK COULD HAVE KILLED 800 CHILDREN IF YOU GROUPED A BUNCH OF CHILDREN DIRECTLY BELOW EACH IMPACT. Yes, we did intercept some, but imagine if we hadn't!!! The 1,500lbs of payload delivered in this terror attack totally justifies the fact that we're going to drop 45,000lbs of ordinance on targets there next week!!!"

Of course, the times Israel really went ham in Syria they didn't actually care. That's when ISIS got close to the border like morons and began getting raped with airstrikes and artillery.

israeli media is publishing these pics, the government doesnt have to say anything. and what the frick would the opposition leak they arent commanding the army

        >The Israeli right actually overhypes these attacks. They will brag about the interceptions of course
why would they brag about syrian interceptions?

        >but then harp on about damaged civilian infrastructure and "what if some kids HAD been playing right there."
when was the last time rockets landed in your city?
israel is incredibly cucked in how it accepts rockets being fired at it

        >It's the Israeli left, who are out of power
the far left literally control the country right now, have for more than a year. atleast until the election in 2 months

        >The 1,500lbs of payload delivered in this terror attack
if any missiles, any shrapnel or any thing whatsoever that may endanger someone's life in israel lands inside israel that is a complete failure of israel's government. what if someone was mortaring the white house, do you think the us would just sit around and say 'well that one didnt kill anyone so we'll just let this go on'?
israel is CCCCUUUUUKKKKKEEEEDDDD as frick, ruled by the left which sucks the dicks of israel's enemies since independence. the only hope for any change and a government that actually does anything to protect israel is if people wake up and vote for reasonable politicians

A larger share of the US population dies in violence related to gangs and Mexican cartels each year then Israelis in rockets. Is the US cucked?

Cartels still operate with relative impunity right across the border, and act easily enough inside the US. Why hasn't the US invaded to destroy them?

Because the costs outweigh the benefits. If Israel goes all in on destroying rockets in Lebanon, Syria, and the Occupied Territories it is going to be incredibly costly and lead to more Israeli loss of life.

The rocket attacks are the cost they are stuck with from letting religious zealots keep pushing into the West Bank, and for refusing to try to find a solution to the Palestinian problem. That population is only growing, as is the Arab Israeli population relative to the israeli one. Plus, the israeli population that is growing is religious morons who refuse to fight.

The cucked part of Israel is them not forcing the ultra Orthodox to fight for the shit they start and not marching them out of the West Bank at gun point like they did to settlers in Gaza. I would be livid as an Israeli, having to fight and get attacked so that morons can build houses on marginal land, surrounded by people who hate them. Boot them out and taxes can go way down due to less defense spending and the country will be safer.

Are the Pallies more moronic? Sure. Arafat rejected the state offered to him to show how big his dick was. We could be 20+ years into the existence of a Palestinian state right now if he had just dropped the ridiculous "right of return, let millions of Pallies move into Israel," bullshit.

No they aren't. This shit has been going on for like a decade and Israel is nowhere near the tempo of strikes they had back in the mid-2010s. There is just a recent flare up and it's in the news more because Israel has also had some recent skirmishes and exchange of fire with Islamic Jihad and Hamas, but even those were small. If Israel was going to freak out and do something stupid they would have done it after the massive nation-wide Arab vs Israeli riots.

Israel isn't even near as on board the "Assad must go," train as anyone else. They attack mostly Iranian positions because they don't want Iran near the border or setting up rocket launch infrastructure.

For Israel, the devil they know is better than the devil they don't. Assad is critically weakened and his regime is minority rule, meaning he can't mobilize the public against Israel. Add in that that the other Arabs hate him because of the Saudi cold war with Iran, and Assad is great for Israel. Keep the Arabs fighting each other.

"Lebanon," isn't going to fight Israel at all. The Lebanese army normally acts to help Israel cut off contact. Hezbollah might want to fight Israel, but Shias are only the largest of three large groups there. The Christians have historically been allies with Israel and the non-Pallestinians have slowly come to prefer Israel to Shia domination in many cases. Meanwhile, the Pallies in Lebanon have assimilated like the Jordanian ones since the end of the civil war and are less committed to the cause of Palestine.

Iran likes to make hay pretending they are the sole good guys fighting Israel instead of allying then, but they don't want a war either because the Saudis are the real threat.

Egypt blockades Gaza worse than the IDF and is fighting Palestinian insurgents in the Sinai. The Gulf is basically allowed with Israel against Iran. Turkey has their own shit, and Iraq is in turmoil again as Iraqi nationalist Shia and minorities try to throw out Iranian influence.

          >Meanwhile, the Pallies in Lebanon have assimilated like the Jordanian ones since the end of the civil war and are less committed to the cause of Palestine.

Is anyone committed to the cause of Palestine at this point? Even Hamas and Hezbollah seems to do dumb shit like fire rockets into Israel purely to justify continuing to get checks from the Muslim Brotherhood and Iran (where they presumably embezzle 90% of it and spend the remainder on the shittiest fricking bottle rockets imaginable). Like seriously, how the frick does organizing mass rock throwing at Israeli soldiers advance your cause in any material way? It doesn't, it's just a blatant attempt to get the Israelis to embarrass themselves by firing into the crowd so you can go crying about it on the internet and shake down the gullible for more donations.

Honestly, the best prospect for there to be a Palestinian state would have been to accept the Israeli offer at the 2000 Camp David Summit, which would have granted them an independent state in all but name (and wouldn't have necessarily precluded the creation of a completely sovereign Palestine state either).

So, tl;dr, you're looking at continued stalemate. Various rebel groups might push and make some gains off Russia leaving, but you're likely to see more stalemate overall. We'll probably eventually get a ceasefire and a defacto partition of Syria along the lines of Kurdistan existing within Iraq, but with less integration.

The only power likely to intervene in a big way is Turkey, and they only care about some regions of Syria.

If you're looking for the next big happening, I would place my money on Belarus revolting again as Russia gets weaker and their economy keeps tanking from sanctions. They already came close to rioting Luka out of power before the very unpopular Ukraine invasion and massive changes to the Belarusian constitution that let Luka be dictator for life and which keep a Russian garrison there indefinitely, and partisans have already been bombing shit and soldiers refusing orders.

lebanon tried tunneling under the border a few years back, launched kornets and grads at israel in the past few years. a few weeks ago they launched a drone attack at israel's sea platforms.

they've recently raised their military readiness and keep escalating threats against israel so a third israel-lebanon war could be on the horizon in a couple of months. if lebanon starts a war with israel syria will probably join in.

these israeli strikes in syria are against weapons that would have been used in the upcoming war, but a lot of them are against weapons intended for lebanon that are in syria so if there's a war lebanon and syria will probably act together.

This is dumb as shit. Assad can't even control his own country against fricking militias despite the fact that Iran, Hezbollah, Russia, the US, Israel, the Gulf States, and Turkey have bombed the frick out of various opposition groups for them. They are in no place to open up a major new front, especially against a modern military that will have total air superiority and artillery superiority.

Likewise, Hezbollah has some cool newer shit but it's still a low tech force. Most notably, Lebanon is even smaller than Israel and the people shit stirring represent less than a third of its population. In any major war not only can Israel attack with overwhelming firepower superiority, but they can aid the Christians and Sunnis and have them take what they want from Hez.

those armes shipments that have been going on for like a decade now are mostly rockets, bomb drones and manufacturing equipment. the reason for the shipments is to arm lebanon and syria for the war against israel that theyre planning.
if you look at the lebanease threats against israel in the past couple of months they even say this explicitly.

A larger share of the US population dies in violence related to gangs and Mexican cartels each year then Israelis in rockets. Is the US cucked?

letting an attack come from abroad and kill or injure or risk your citizens without invading and defeating the attacking force is pure cuckery. israel is sucking the dick of it's enemies like it's done for 70 years now. there is some hope for a change, for an administration in israel which would protect the country but that most likely wont happen in the coming election.

          maybe in 2-3 elections

          >The rocket attacks are the cost
of cucking and not fighting those who fire them

for example last month (operation breaking dawn) when terrorists in gaza tried to stage an ATGM attack on the border. the IDF killed their leadership and a few dozen terrorists and then negotiated A CEASEFIRE with a TERRORIST ORGANIZATION while rockets were being fired on israeli cities.

instead of going in, defeating the terrorists and liberating the occupied gush katif area where they operate israel gave the terrorists what they wanted.
