yeah. 9:1 is the usual ration when attacking an urban fortification, assuming otherwise equal capabilities. for ukraine to only get 5:1 against attackers armed only with shovels and the occasional rusty ak is pretty embarrassing.

      Anonymous

Not quite. Attackers usually make up 75% to 85% of all causalities. The high end doesn't quite reach 9:1, that's someone rounding in their own favor. The low end is 4:1, so Ukraine is still doing good at 5:1.

        Anonymous

        The low end is 3:1

        Anonymous

5:1 would be 83%. That’s pretty damn high, anon. So of all the casualties in a given battle, Ukrainians only make up 17% of them, if the ratio is 5:1.

Russians are fundamentally bugmen. Their lives are utterly expendable if they are ultimately able to spend them completing the task. Once you understand that fact, their baffling tactics begin to make perfect sense.

The issue is, the task ISNT done yet.

            Anonymous

Yet. Bakhmut (probably) will fall eventually. Maybe it's got two more month left, maybe it's got two more weeks left, but baring Ukrainian action somewhere else that actually diverts Russia's attention, eventually enough meat will probably be thrown into the grinder to clog it up and overwhelm it.

              Anonymous

Bakhmut wasn't the end goal for russia(They at the very LEAST wanted Donbas) and it was never the final line in the sand for Ukraine. The fact rus is throwing so many bodies at it, and still can't take it, paints the situation rather favorably.

                Anonymous

I agree with that assessment. Monkey apparently wanted all of Donbas by the end of March. That just isn't in the cards no matter how you slice things. At this point it looks like if he's lucky, he may, emphasis very much on may, get all of Bakhmut by the end of March, but still up in the air for the moment.

This is the most reasonable assessment. Bakhmut bought a shitton of time, and the Russians were too stubborn to do anything that even mimics strategic thinking. Remember how the September offensive was predicated on the Russians overstretching themselves? When the Ukies do retreat (and they probably will) expect some unbelievable kino. In my estimation, that's when they'll have enough Western toys available to do a repeat on steroids.

I think it's more than fair to say it's long sense served it purpose defensively. Even if it were to fall tomorrow. The question is gonna come down if that Ukrainian counter offensive is going to come to be before summer, and if it does will it be enough to distract Russia, and if it does distract Russia, will Russia both care enough and be capable enough of shifting their forces quickly enough to do anything other than continue to hyper-fixate on Bakhmut. Assuming the city is still standing by that point that is.

                Anonymous

They're fixing Russia in place while they prepare for the next offensive, home boy. Stalingrad tier... There is a certain emotional element to it, same as Stalingrad, but ultimately it buys time for Ukraine to prepare for the next offensive while fixing the Russians in place. It'll provide some operational mobility for Ukraine if Russia really is moronic enough to fixate on it.

Eight months to Soledar, a few weeks to clear Kyiv, Kharkiv and Kherson. It's not looking good, Ivan. Russia has to expend a lot more resources and manpower for smaller territorial gains. Small losses like Bakhmut is something an army can recover from if they continue making larger gains during their own offensives. Russia is losing.

The Russian government wouldn't deliberately obfuscate the number of dead.
That would deprive the poor Russian widows of their compensation money, based Putin wouldn't allow it.
Of course by keeping the offical number low Russian officials can pocket the compensation money for themselves and maybe sustain public support for the war, but they just wouldn't.

Their whole fricking system is so apathetic that it's comical. Weak and corrupt state leads to people missing salaries and looking for other income. So you get to steal a little. Every rung upwards repeats this step. So there was a problem with your salary, but you stole some armor plates and sold them on Ebay. The fat cats above steal from contracts. Not too much and not from wrong people, that gets you killed. But enough of this happens that the soldiers don't get enough equipment. Fuel gets stolen. Ammo is rusted and shit. Food is old. So the general effectiveness of the military is compromised, they have shit morale and then die. Then the fricking state goons use your death as a way to steal even more funds for themselves 😀 It's like feudalism and mafia all rolled into one.

Ukrainian police is wearing camo during war time, mobilization dodgers are getting court cases, not dragged to the frontline as by Ukrainian rule of law.

The weird part about your claim is that not even pro-russian western media is reporting on this hoax, it’s on iranian website and some schizo blogs.

Meanwhile you have Russians literally shooting up mobilization offices.

I am a euro and I work in immigration, the weird part is that I had only 1 actually disabled Ukrainian man asking for asylum and a few hundred young Russians asking for asylum.

if it's total casualties that isn't brilliant as is but considering russian medevac doesn't exist unless you are an officer (you get evaced to behind the shed for shovel time). Then it's probably a lot of walking wounded, moderate number of seriusly wounded and then a minority of battlefield deaths for the ukranians and the reverse for the russians. So a fair number of ukrainin casualties might get back into the fight or at the very least get civilains work again but the russians are a lot of coffins.

I mean, Russia has artillery. No matter what kind of western gear you slap on yourself, that one piece of shrapnel will find someones neck. You hold a position and you'll lose troops. Russians probably think that Ukraines tolerance for casualties is lower than theirs and will just send endless reinforcements through the 'funnel'. 20 guys get sent and killed, 20 follow in a couple of hours. They eventually kill some defenders and move up few houses. It's pretty grim, but if you don't give two shits about your troops, I guess that works for Russia. I just wonder what those vatniks think when they walk over hundreds of russian corpses. Is it.. "Oh that won't be me, I'll probably make it"

At this point I'm left with the conclusion that Putin is intentionally weakening his own military, in the same way Khomenei did, in order to preserve his own administration. That's going to require that he has a parallel policing/military organization similar to the IRGC working domestically though, and I don't know enough about Russia to know if this is the case.
