It's more like "look at how competent and smart I am".
They do have a lot of how to, but I've always thought of them as more of a primer course on what should be done, not how. You watch one of their videos to get a rough idea of steps, tools, and terminology that you can get more detail on from other sources. Remember, they were originally intended for PBS audiences, so the IQ requirement was pretty low.
Bob was more egocentric than competent. None of the other trades are really highlighted until after he left. Watch the first series to laugh. He wears a cap to keep the dust out of his hair during demo, but not a mask to keep it out of his lungs. He jumps in to try plastering, but isn't good.
This Old House is extremely overrated. Tim is an excellent carpenter but all his other videos on things like Asphalt repair are pure LARP. Also the youtube videos have very very little actual information.
The next project will be a Revolutionary War-era 1700's house & barn that they're renovating ... so that'll be interesting.
The last one they did was pretty boring.
Whenever they do one in Boston lately, I think it's because they don't have much budget, so they're just sticking close to home.
Usually most of the renovation is off camera ... I think TOH just shows up for a handful of filming days and pretends they're more involved in the project than they actually are.
He didn't shill it, he proved that it wasn't any better than some of the others. The only reason he did the comparison was because it was requested by his viewers. You're one of those people who's a shitbag and imagines that everybody else are shitbags as well.
for me its This Old Crack House hosted by Angry Cops
Who knew that the key to success that we were all missing was Basement Jesus?
New Yankee Workshop literally just started dumping all the episodes onto YouTube a several weeks ago.
Looks interesting. I'll check out anybody who doesn't have a sawstop.
And I have been in heaven.
Really? I'm gonna have to binge. I have very fond memories as a kid of watching this with my dad after church on Sunday.

I watched a bunch of their vids and I haven't seen a lot in there that could be described as actual information

We need a fan edit that gives this butthole zero airtime.
Best host.
Bob is not angry. Just disappointed.

He’s based. I had a black gf once who told me she watched the show just to masterbate to this guy
I didn't like him at all. He was kind of a jerk.

How many hosts have they been through in 30 years? Norm Abrams was the only one worth a damn.
norm was never the host. he was the backseat carpenter.
Norm was kind of co-host when they brought Steve Thomas on board.
>Norm was kind of co-host when they brought Steve Thomas on board.
Because Thomas was so unlikable.
the older old school videos were more informative than the current "git'er done" shit millenial shit
Most people who watch DIY/Cooking/whatever shows are just jerking off to other people's achievements and will never try anything that they watch.
Are there any black home improvement shows?
Rhetorical question, sort of.

>I think TOH just shows up for a handful of filming days and pretends they're more involved in the project than they actually are
its exactly like that. its all for show while the real workers do the actual work
The end all of PrepHole infotainment?
We're going to test that!
Lost all fricking credibility after shilling the other homosexual youtubers cashin 100 dollar screwdriver

>basically proving it's not really worth the stupid price point
>shilling
ok tard
Watch some early 80s episodes, where Norm isn't a kindly old man, but instead a ripped daddy bussy destroyer
