Wait did they actually believe their own propaganda and use them for frontal assaults?I thought these were meant to do to shit behind the lines and just be more drone proof.

They are 100% assault vehicles. They jam pack the full of EW jammers and have them lead the assault.
Not necessarily the worst idea, it's just fricking hilarious that THIS is the best they can do with it.

It’s a moronic idea.Sheet metal isn’t going to do shit against direct fire or actual modern anti tank weapons.

            Anonymous

The sheet metal is just to cover the extremely sensitive jammers from shrapnel and light artillery.
Of course the tanks blow up when you shoot them with things that make tanks blow up, that's just what happens.
What isn't a moronic idea is having a dedicated drone jammer lead a mechanized assault force.

I don't know why you're accusing me of being Russian for saying an EW jammer on a vehicle isn't a bad idea.
If you watched any of the footage of them in action, you would know that the sheet metal does appear to be working for everything but a direct hit, which is exactly what it's supposed to be fricking doing.
Again, the turtle tanks are an ersatz and frankly terrible implementation of a relatively good idea. The idea is fine, the execution is not.

I'm not sure if you can read, but I quite clearly added that caveat.
It only takes tiny piece of shrapnel to wreck your entire EW system, it is literally better than nothing.
Now tell me, where did the turtle tank touch you?

Early schürzen was a mesh, later in order to make it more easily it was made from sheet steel. The main purpose being to protect from anti-tank rifles.

so that's what they're for. thats actually a brilliant idea by russian standards. of course non-shithole countries would have actual factory built dedicated tanks for this task but its a logical thing to do

from what I've seen from the POV of Ukie drone teams the Russian jamming stuff is extremely hit or miss

Nope, they're designed to lead assaults and protect the other tanks from drones. Supposedly, jammers on tanks are easy to knock out so by hiding it under a shed, drones have a harder time finding it.

          Anonymous

Is this actually just a shell game thing and less about protection? Like if they have ten tanks but only one portable jammer they'll still build the sheds on all the tanks even the ones without the jammer just so its harder to pick out which one to target first. It'd boost the chances of the whole column even though the cheap metal isnt really worth anything for resisting munitions.

this retrofitted narrative being spammed all at once sure isn't suspicious

-Being taken out by indirect arty fire and abandooned is the most common way vehicles are lost in the war, so nothing is new here. The turtle armor doesn't make a difference to this.

blood on the snow is an excellent memoir of the eastern front and one anecdote within it specifically mentions how reassuring it was to have ferdinands parked behind their positions as they could reliably knock out t34’s at 600+ meters where the t34s would generally be unable to engage at ranges over 300m. sure, they’re slow and chonky but they had a distinct purpose

what is the cope now that we are seeing ( from my point of view ) the widespread use of madmaxed vehicles of combat from the russian side BUT NOT UKRAINE ?
    1) we should do as the russians because these are cheap and are consooming the western side munitions which are 10 times more expensive
    2) the russian creative mind knows no bound
    3) russia is still winning keep wyning pidor
    4) the russians are using these because they are keeping the good stuff in the back
