Is this an actual thing anyone has ever used?

The description of this thing claims its used by the Israeli military.

israelites... like basketball? (All the ones I've known were big basketball fans.)

They are definitely fans of Basketball Americans.
Some may be fans of basketball itself.
But don't kid yourself there are almost no israeli basketball players relative to the rest of the basketball player demographics.

I could see using it in the last 3 days you spend in Afghanistan as you figure out which humvees are not getting flown out of the airbase ever. I struggle to imagine a second use case

Thats dumb as shit, a flat fucking tire wow you really crippled them jayden, you should go to west point, teach em some tactics

damn if only the device this stupid bullshit is attached to had the ability to deflate tires on its own we wouldn't need this

Imagine the IDF's primary function. They probably use it to deflate tires while dealing with rock throwers to prevent what ever parked vehicles present from being moved. They cannot deflate the tires with a gunshot as that would escalate whatever is happening there.

          Bayonet.

Deflating tires does not prevent driving the vehicle. Why would you imagine it does? It interferes with driving them at speed not that it would matter in dense urban areas. If you want to disable a vehicle, destroy it. That stupid tool is a placebo for wrenchlets.

t.mechanic who drove plenty of scrap cars on flats to move them around the lot.

Anon, disabling tires for hundreds of vehicles requires replacement for hundredsx4 tires for them to operate. That isn't a minor inconvenience for anyone that doesn't have oodles of money.

I'll bet a .22 caliber hole would deflate the tire somewhat slower too

More than you think. You can disable a vehicle that you're in the process of searching at a checkpoint/border crossing without lighting it or the potentially valuable people inside up.

Considering the Israeli military is conscripts against civilian type material, it's entirely possible they genuinely use and issue unusual pieces of equipment like this. If you regularly stab tires maybe this makes sense. Important to consider the IDF sees more riot control than fire fights.

You could make a muzzle break that does the same thing without having to fire a round tho
    Just make it pointed
Or use a bayonet with a relief cut in it for the air to flow past

Nice get, but it is a muzzle break of a kind per the description.

Yea but why not have something multi-functional instead of extremely niche
Like a bayonet not only can pop tires fast, But it can stab a dude, And many work as wire cutters and a knife is a super useful tool as well
Just seems like a dumb idea to me.

Easier for IDF conscripts to use. They don't exactly have a professional military/police force.

            Anonymous

Not that anon but figuring out how to use a bayonet isn't that difficult. I do see the advantage of this in terms of being able to go through any side of the tire though without as much effort.

I see more issue with a reservist having this on their short m16 and stabbing themselves through the femoral artery when they try to job with their rifle slung
And also just armorers having to take these on and off constantly wouldn't make sense.
              I wouldn't want to run it 24/7

                Anonymous

Just have them on a few "For riot use" rifles instead of all of them anon. And that doesn't look sharp enough to go through on casual contact with skin unless they're dumb enough and put pressure on it.

Pretty sure bootcamp consists of soldiers already stabbing tires with a bayonet too lol

I mean stabbing a tire is one thing, actually going deep enough to deflate it is another, which is what I could see happening when some idiot goes at it from the treads rather than the sides

It's a lot easier to pull rubber valve stems with pliers (visegrips even better) or snap the metal sort.
