is this amber?

did I just find amber on this tree? it is definitely hardened resin and some blobs have that shattered look. also its not an evergreen such as a pine, it looks like a decidous tree that I cant name because I am neither a botanist nor a native english speaker.

      very funny

No, but it's on it's way. Now it just needs to be buried somewhere away from rain and bugs, subjected to high pressure and temperature, and wait for a long time to fossilize.

thats a bummer. I might try to simulate that enviorment

amber is the bees breasts. I remember when Jurassic Park came out and my science teacher told us all about amber I could hardly believe such an amazing thing could exist, packed with prehistoric pollen and dust and little crawlies

its a bit too hard to tell from the close up photo, but did it smell sweet? it could be cottonwood sap

it doesnt smell like anything and is hard as frick. i thought it might not be fully fledged amber but perhaps there is some small parts of it in the tree.
its full of holes from which hardened sap comes out.

Going by what bark I can see, I'd say it's cherry tree gum.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gummosis
The huge patch of deadwood with fungus growing on it definitely indicates the tree is stressed.

Nah it's sap. Still, take as much as you can. That shit is a really good firestarter, and actually pretty pricy if you look online from what I hear

You can eat that shit. Doesn't taste like anything but we did it all the time as kids

No but if you find some of that on a spruce tree you can chew it like gum.

you need 1000's of years to turn resin into amber
basically your post could be a photo of a piece of coal and "is this diamond that i just found" text
