Is there even a point in carrying non firearm weapons in the US?

So my predicament is that I travel a lot for work, many times to states that don't reciprocate my state's concealed carry permit, additionally many of the work sites I go to have actual security who will check you when you arrive (datacenters, etc) so a firearm is pretty much out of the question. Oddly enough so is pepper spray since you can't fly with it on you person or in cargo since the cargo area isn't pressurized so the can will explode.

Is there even a point in carrying any sort of weapon or is my best bet to just carry a decoy wallet and maybe phone? Something like an expandable baton isn't really an option as it's certainly not a good look with security as well as may not be legal everywhere I travel.

Essentially I would need something that you could legally take with you on an airplane. The only things I could think of would be something like a lock in a sock or maybe a kubaton if I could come up with some plausible deniability for why I have it.

if you can't bring guns with you then hide them all around the country and mark them with lambdas, that way whenever you get to a new city you get one from your stash, carry it, and hide it again when you leave

Pretty based, like that hipoint strategy that guy did with his house, but for the whole country.

Hipoints are $100, so you could have a gun in every room of your house for less than $1,000.

or just buy real guns and put them in every room because you're not poor and hipoints are wigger-tier

Just you watch, once the zinc shortage hits hipoints will be $1000 guns.

I deal with a similar issue due to work travel and non-reciprocity (I live in a constitutional carry state, so I don't even have a permit to reciprocate anyway). Standard situation: Anywhere I go that I'm allowed to have a gun it's safe enough that I don't need one. Any shithole that's dangerous to the point that I want a gun I'm not allowed to carry one.

You can carry a knife on a plane if you check bags, and unless it's frickhueg most places in the US consider a pocketknife a tool rather than a weapon. I carry a ~4" bladed Gerber Covert Applegate-Fairbairn folder to every jobsite I go to and have never gotten shit for it. Yeah it's not ideal and I don't have any fantasies about pulling it on a mugger with a gun, but if you train with it and are realistic about knowing it's limitations it's significantly better than nothing.

If you're traveling in a serious shithole FWIW pepper spray can be bought at just about any WalMart for $10. Just throw it away before you fly home. Some say pepper spray and knife is significantly better than either by itself, but I don't have any experience or training using them in concert.

If even a pocketknife isn't an option then it's time to learn some martial arts.

Yeah I don't really consider a pocket knife a serious weapon, but I suppose it's better than nothing if for some reason a methhead is trying to beat me to death for no rational reason.

Sturdy and bright defense flashlight. Yes. I know those are nogunz cope, but it seems to be the best choice for anon as he's always flying.

That's actually a pretty good idea. A super high powered light could certainly spotlight someone at least at night, although idk how effective that would be during the day.

A highpower flashlight in the eyes during the day will still be unpleasant to look at, and you can use it was a bludgeon if its decent size, or get one with the spikes on the front and sharpen them down with a file. that may cause problems at the airport though.

Do you just not want to bring the gun because you can't carry it, or is there actually an issue shipping the gun to your destination without a permit? I would just carry anyway, esp. considering the most recent supreme court ruling.

Somewhere around 90% of self defense cases involving a gun don't involve the gun being fired, so yeah other options are still worth it. I'd recommend looking into Tasers or one of those Kimber Pepper Blasters that use a primer to fire the pepper spray in them rather than compressed gas. Both are going to be expensive if you want to practice with them though.

I'll look into it, especially a stun gun, probably couldn't take it into secure areas, but it wouldn't be too weird and they'd probably just hold it for me while I'm there.

        >especially a stun gun,
Not a stun gun. An actual Taser that shoots out the barbs. Considering the datacenters I've been to have been ridiculously secure down to needing to be buzzed in at the gate, scan your key card to go from room to room in the building, and even needing to call security if you fricked up and went through a door without scanning because according to the system you should still be in the other room. Why not just leave it in your vehicle?

Some cities we go to we don't rent cars and just Uber around so I can't leave it in the car. I don't wanna have something I have to leave in a hotel since that reduces the odds I'll have it on me.

At this point I'm leaning towards high output flashlight and pocket knife if it comes to that.

I'd go with procuring a cheap pocketknife once you reach your destination if you aren't checking baggage and ditching it before you leave. Most people are averse to being stabbed, and you'll probably be able to draw it relatively safely if they think you're taking out your wallet to give to them. A big flashlight or other tool that can be used as a melee weapon will work if it fits with your line of work. Nobody has ever fricked with me while I've had an 8 inch C wrench dangling from my belt, even while walking a mile to my car at 2 am in the city.
