Rural communities are the ones who know you can't count on the Police the most. Especially if you live outside of a town. Because they never show up on time.

Rural police take forever to get to you if you have a problem. I don't respect them at all. Frick off.

Well then I stand corrected. No one likes police officers.

They're useless but at least they're not enemies of the people, unlike city cops, feds, and state patrol. Frick those last ones in particular.

Police officers are more likely to let you go for petty offenses than county sheriffs or state troopers. There's less going on in rural areas and on highways. They'll act like you rolling a stop sign or speeding is the crime of the century. City police are going call to call and don't have time to enforce traffic stuff and have seen so much worse shit they don't fret over it.

I worked for a PD in a rural area, and everyone from smaller agencies and from the sheriffs dept were petty c**ts who harassed normal people over stupid shit. We harassed people too but only when they were of the criminal element. These guys couldn't tell the difference or straight up ignored the legit criminals to harass old ladies and working folk because they were scared of the criminal class. I don't get why deputies are respected over officers when officers let you get away with more.

          >muh sheriff is elected
Dumb, the police chief is appointed by the city council and mayor, so appointed by several elected officials. In many cities they're directly elected, but still it doesn't matter who elects the manager of the department. It's not like you voted for each and every deputy and that would be a moronic system because most people are morons who would pick moronic choices.

I will say I would go sheriff dept if I were to do LE again. They typically pay less across the board, our SO started at like $6k less than PD and their raises were less often too. But they get to do cool shit like air units and search&rescue. Their turnover rate is high as balls too due to the low pay, so ranking up is easier since you'll gain seniority more quickly with people dropping out to go to other agencies. Just decide what specialty you want (detective, air, SWAT, metro, etc) and go with a good agency that has that specialty. Talk to the hiring authority with the agencies you're considering and smooth out any questions you have. The mistake I made was I picked an agency that didn't really have the specialties I was looking for, so I ended up stuck on patrol because I didn't work towards ranking up. Patrol is a young man's job, you really don't want to be doing it when you're not in your 20s, so always be working towards ranking up or moving to a specialty. We also had some pretty bad nepotism where I wasn't allowed to rank up to supervisor or become a detective because I wasn't very social with the higher-ups. That's definitely a thing, it's like any other company job in that regard sadly.

That's why you get guns. There's a guy in Poland who owns land in the US or maybe Southern America (rural land, mind you), one of the first things an officer told him was to get a gun, a shotgun preferrably, because there is no better deterrent to a break and entering than a sound of a shotgun being loaded.

          Anonymous

Rural areas allow you to have guns because they accept the reality that a police response takes time. Even if it only takes minutes, seconds could determine whether you live or die and that's just the reality of reality. They can't teleport there and criminals are the ones causing the situation anyway so they're to blame. But armed good citizens are the best way to deter potentially deadly crimes against innocent people. The police in rural areas are respected because though they can't get there in time, the people know they would rush in to help putting their life on the line to save them in the off chance that they are in the area and arrive on time. Police aren't respected in the city because they get tired of putting their life on the line for shitty people, and said shitty people hate cops because they're criminal Black folk themselves or white liberal Black person enablers who blame police for Black person crimes.

Cops aren’t respected here. They’re tolerated. You call them when one of the trailer dwellers breaks containment and enjoy the fact that you know they’re gonna gas the homosexual in his holding cell later. We basically found a use for our more sadistic members of society namely abusing mentally ill and drug addicted subhumans the government refuses to put in a sanitarium. If violence comes to our homes we deal with it ourselves. It is understood in small communities as well that if a bad cop, sheriff, judge, etc are around or the criminal in question is related to one of these individuals they will probably be getting off. Every small town has a story like Skidmore MO where for inexplicable reasons some scumbag just keeps getting off and eventually gets smoked. In ours it was the town rapist in the 60s. Everyone knows where the body is buried but nobody is going looking for it either.

              >Cops aren’t respected here. They’re tolerated.
Where, in your mind? If they got rid of the police/sheriffs tomorrow I bet the majority of people in town would be at the town hall asking wtf are you doing with our tax dollars we want you to form a public safety organization before shit gets wild west out here. Most people like that public safety organizations exist and don't see it as wasteful spending. It's like dismantling the fire department, what do you think happens when there's a fire or medical emergency but nothing currently organized to respond to it? The situation gets way worse and you'll be calling for those organizations to be formed.

You realize a shit ton of rural fire departments are volunteer only right? The police here exist to pick up the meth heads between jail stints and write tickets to people passing through on the highway. If they fricked around too much they’d just get clapped since literally everyone around here owns firearms. The “Wild West” wasn’t nearly as violent as the movies depict

        Rural communities.

Not true I live in a community of less than 3k people my experience with cops is pretty clear. FRICK STATE COPS and the local cops are G's. In Rural area's we accept the reality of policing that being response time is not the greatest and you need to be able to defend yourself. I have been pulled over 5 times one time I had drugs. 4 out of the 5 times it was local police 4 of those times it was for going 60 in a 55mph zone. 3 of those times I was warned the 4th time I had recently smoked weed in the car. The officer that pulled me over was the cousin of my dads boss he made me park the car and lock it on the side of a county highway give him the keys and drove me home then had a long talk with my dad. I was 20 at the time. My single experience with state police was I didn't signal when passing someone going 10 under(2 lane highway) the story goes like this.
        >far northern WI near UP boarder
        >cop pulls right on my ass like within inches of my bumper
        >driving 1999 ford f150 with over 200k miles on it
        >on a 20 degree or so incline
        >let go of break after putting car in park
        >car roles back a little
        >bumps his front bumper
        >queue 30 mins of cop screaming his head off at me until backup arrives because he is now involved in the incident and cannot be the officer to issue a citation
        >ticket for failing to signal and unsafe backing of a motor vehicle
        >go to court 1 and a half hours away from my house
        >cop there
        >argue my case as not guilty for unsafe backing
        >judge throws out unsafe backing and keeps original ticket
        >pay $125 ticket
Local cops are willing to cut you slack and go above and beyond in rural communities. State cops or city police have no interest in the benefit of the greater community they are policing.

is this the new ND pasta? pro tip: if you run into an butthole in the morning, you ran into an butthole. if you run into buttholes all day, you're the butthole. i've been driving longer than you've been drawing breath and have never been stopped

no I live in a vacation town for people from southern WI, MI and IL during the summer and holidays the local cops step up their traffic stops because a good potion of people driving are probably drunk. So little shit like going 5 over can get you stopped pretty easy if its Memorial day, the 4th or Labor day.

I don't know where you are or what your local law enforcement is like, but there are certainly cops out there that use the letter of the law just to frick with people and at very least make it look like they are busy. I've been pulled over multiple times just for doing a little rolling stop through a 4 way intersection in the middle of the fricking night when it was clear from the absolute lack of headlights for miles that there was nobody around. Is that illegal in the most anal retentive sense possible? Yes. Is anyone harmed by this? No. But this pig can get $80 a pop for the department, so he just says "frick it" and hides with his lights off behind bushes at a deserted rural intersection. Near my grandparents house there's a little back road that winds down hill for maybe half a mile and then levels off into kind of a quarry area with some train tracks that go across and it's the same thing in that spot, the cops wait there with their lights off on a service road behind the hills and if you come out of that drop going even 5 miles over the speed limit they get you. There's protecting people and enforcing safety, and then there's milking people.

people get mad because 99% of cops don't care except for the lifelong beta males that joined the force so they could boss people around and shoot dogs and black people. i have been a cop for 20 years and the traffic hard ass is ALWAYS the homosexual that shoots the dog.
                >he was charging at me
yeah and the other 49 guys in the department, in all the warrants we served, never shot or were bit by dogs. fricking kid i was with almost shot a HUSKY because it walked towards us and said "awoooo!". fricking idiot. fricking homosexual. they just want to shoot stuff. they don't even give a shit about WHY we have laws (to maintain a degree of order, not so we can play judge dredd and whip everyone who steps on toe over the line). they want to shoot shit and frick people in the ass. ALWAYS kids.

I remember reading in a WW2 memoir of one solider said he didn't believe anyone under the age of 25 should be allowed to be combat soldiers. Obviously not really practical for the military, but it would probably be a good idea for police.

You have no natural authority or charisma, so you take joy in fantasizing about being a hard ass cop screaming about the commands of your master knowing that even if no one listens to you, your master will gladly back you up if you lash out like a frightened dog or send more of their servants to back you up. This makes you feel powerful, but really, you are disposable and quite pathetic.
                >FOLLOW THE LAW. IT'S THAT SIMPLE.
                >COMPLY. C O M P L Y.
                >FINALLY I AM THE BULLY!

Most good cops give absolutely 0 fricks about most traffic laws and only use them as excuses to pull over people who probably have drugs or warrants. In fact it's on our ethics test. Two people are breaking the speed limit. A well groomed older man in a nice truck, and an unshaven, rather ugly looking kid in a sportscar with a fricked bumper. Who do you pull over?

When people say both, or "the truck because he could cause more damage and afford the ticket", they are turned down. Immediately. You pull over the sportscar, because he is probably a worse driver, is more likely to be a criminal, and has a pattern of driving like shit and running into things.

Also FYI to all of you, fix your bumpers. Yes broken windows policing is alive and well. If your bumper is fricked we think you crashed before and expect to crash again.

          >shomrim

Interesting. Never heard of this before. That picture is from this article:

          >Brooklyn’s Private israeli Patrols Wield Power. Some Call Them Bullies.
Responding to the radio alert, several members of the Brooklyn South Safety Patrol, a Hasidic watch group, hopped into their vehicles and headed toward the scene. Arriving in their uniforms and skullcaps, they surrounded the Hyundai, but the driver tried to flee. When they chased him down and tackled him, the man pulled a gun. Four of the patrolmen — known as shomrim for the Hebrew for “guards” — were injured in the melee. In the days that followed, they were hailed as heroes by a parade of politicians.

That was in September 2010. But within three years, as the case of the gunman, David Flores, made its way to court, a very different narrative emerged.

When Mr. Flores went on trial, his lawyer argued that he had not exposed himself, but instead had been pre-emptively attacked and fired his gun only in self-defense. An audio recording entered into evidence featured a 911 call from a witness reporting that the shomrim repeatedly kicked Mr. Flores after dragging him from his car.

When the jury reached a verdict, it acquitted the defendant of assault, attempted murder and the underlying lewdness allegation; he was convicted only of a gun-possession charge. As the jurors left the courtroom, some of them were so upset they stopped to hug the defendant’s mother. “The shomrim can’t decide if they’re going to be judge, jury and executioner in the middle of the street,” one of the jurors told The Daily News.

Almost any city with a decent sized population that’s not a liberal shit hole. Just don’t pick one of those small town police departments that’s basically just a rich person suburb where all you do is enforce traffic laws. Those guys are the worst. I’d say shoot for a city with a population of at least 50,000 or more. That gives you enough of a population to have some actual crime to deal with.

This. Just watch some active self protection videos and see all the Black folk who've been ventilated by White cops since Floyd and never faced any charges. It applies to a lot of things, but they exaggerate issues in the media essentially to demoralize people
      >Oh no, I'm White, if I shoot a Black person for any reason I'll get charged!
Is the main intended effect rather than actually prosecuting cops/citizens who do something.

And yes, some places are shitholes that are as bad as the memes, but it's quite obvious which ones are which.

      >At a protest in August 2017 against a Donald Trump rally, Phoenix Police Officer Christopher Turiano shot a protester in the groin. Turiano was criminally charged for the shooting, but the charges were subsequently dropped. The department's Tactical Response Unit, of which Turiano is a member, responded to the shooting by creating a commemorative challenge coin with a depiction of a protester being shot in the groin on one side and Trump's "Make America Great Again" slogan on the other side. Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams was aware of the coins but did not discipline the officers involved.

Exactly. The overwhelming majority of people want police. They want to be able to call 911 and get help right away. Most people respect police. Some people just get angry at the police just like teenagers have a good angry at their parents because they felt like they were adults but they were still being told what to do... Do we take teenagers seriously when they hate their parents for giving them a curfew? No we don't and we also don't take adults seriously when they get angry that they got caught speeding through school zone right as school is getting let out.

Rural cops are as corrupt, if not worse. They regularly let drunk drivers or wife beaters off the hook because they are friends with the sheriff, mayor, football coach, or various other people. They're more keeping the status quo than the peace. Frick all cops. Also see this San Diego cop fainting from a hysteria induced panic attack after fentanyl exposure (it is impossible to overdose on fentanyl from skin contact unless in a very high concentration for an extended period of time).

You're a little homosexual. The same idiot that cries that they let someone go for DWI will cry when they get arrested for DWI and say the cop could have just let them go. It is literally the only profession where everybody hates you if you do your job and everybody also hates you if you don't do your job. So just shut the frick up

They don't even respect themselves. Out of 10 oathbreakers I see, 9 have a gut and or very fat. Fat fricks have given up chasing perps. now they just shoot everything that moves. The only ones worth respecting are state troopers. Why? Because they must have at least a BA in criminals justice, whereas the other lesser cops just have the academy.

I've lived all over the US, both in cities and rural communities, in my adult life and I'd have to say no.
There are decent people in the police and some nice, down to earth sheriffs and deputies, but at the end of the day they are tools of the state. Most Americans have an inate distrust of government at any level (for varying reasons) and as a result most will distrust cops out of hand because of their place within the system.
On top of this, the vast majority of police unions and precincts have an absolutely awful track record when it comes to getting rid of "bad apples". Besides the unions fighting to keep dick heads in uniform, you get the politically motivated higher ups not wanting to look bad by forcefully removing the scum that cause them problems.
It's a bad mix of apathy, overreach, authority worship, and low standards that make being a cop just a shit thing to do.

US police have solved fewer murders every decade for the past six decades.
About 10 % of violent crimes lead to people getting jail, and about 5% of the property ones.
The only reason anyone likes the police in the US is if they like seeing dogs get shot or black people get shot/tortured.
I cheer when pigs get killed.

City cops suck dick, they suck more dick the larger the city. Rural and semi-rural cops can be cool sometimes but the thing about long response times isn't a meme, although frankly if you live in a rural or semi-rural area you should be practicing the shoot-shovel-shutup method of dealing with problems and not calling them anyways. Failure to be able to do that means you really shouldn't be living in a rural or semi-rural area.

There's nothing going on in rural areas. They're all sitting around waiting for someone to roll a stop sign or run into a speed trap. Meanwhile city cops are wrangling feral monkeys 12 hours into a 10 hour shift so they don't give a crap about petty stuff. I'm very surprised people have it so backwards but I assumed the same thing before I was in LE and actually saw it. The only cops that suck in city departments are the diversity hires and the petty ones who were trained by smaller departments.

I just witnessed someone shoot 3 handgun rounds out of their vehicle about 100 meters down the street from me(into the nearest apartment building). I'm in central Houston and the cops took 24 minutes to show up.

I want to like the police. Mind you I’m a person that believes in justice, rule of law, and punishing criminals with an iron fist. But the way policing is done now is so fricking ineffective. I ask myself more and more what the frick police even do. Too cowardly to protect against violent offenders unless they behave violently towards them. You’d rather harass local business owners than go after criminals on the streets. Places that need patrols hardly have a police presence. I really want to like police but there needs to be a change in doctrine, and higher standards for officers. You let every dumbass with a high school diploma get a job as an officer obviously you’re not getting the best people. I will say highway patrol is good at least where I’m from. But that’s not saying much since they are just highway patrol

lol @ needing or wanting cops. lmao even. cops don't do SHIT in my city other than eat donuts and cry about the homicides they can't solve. everyone in my Midwest city owns a gun and I'm sure half the dead bodies in the streets are people who got shot by people defending themselves, swear.

Police are respected just depends on the community. In small suburban richer areas definitely. Probably because they can hire the better officers. I remember in highschool the girls would crush over the resource officer because he was fit and young. Everyone knew the police officers by name too.
