Is there any reason to wear a high cut helmet if you're not going to use a headset with it?

Is there any reason to wear a high cut helmet if you're not going to use a headset with it? I see a lot of people doing this, but I can't find a good answer after skimming google. I guess it's slightly more comfortable than a mid cut on its own, but is it worth the reduced protection?

it's a lot lighter and if you aren't wearing a headset, you don't have the helmet muffling your hearing
the "reduced protection" has largely been found to be a meme. The West is moving to mid and highcut helmets (IHPS, FAST) because over a hundred years of war have proven that the overwhelming majority (90%+) of helmet hits come from the front.
Quite few come from the side.

but of course, nothing I can say will convince the contrarians who infest this board and INSIST that anyone who wears a HC or SHC helmet will get killed by artillery shrapnel to the ears, ignoring the fact that if you're standing in the open with artillery landing next to you your entire body will be shredded by fragments. The only way to protect from arty is to be in a vehicle or behind solid cover

Bruh if youre standing as close to detonations as you’re painting, the helmet isnt gonna save you. High cuts have a purpose. Theres a comprise. Make your own decisions.

I suppose it's probably a one in a million chance that a bit of extra ear coverage will save your life from a piece of shrapnel. Also let's make this a helmet thread.

I guess we shouldn't tell you that shooting an m1 steel pot with rifle rounds from 2 feet away isn't exactly fair.
There are rifle rated helmets btw. ECH, IHPS, T.B.H R1, AS600

No shit lol. I'm fully aware that newer helms are rifle rated you moron.

moron. There is no reason for a high cut helmet except in edge cases.

there's no reason for full cut helmets outside of edge cases according to US Army whitepapers on helmet impacts going back to WW1

A full helmet adds marginal cost and weight to a helmet. Why wouldn't you wear a full helmet?

From any objective perspective, a high cut helmet is moronic.

Look man, I'm the last person to say "well this institution thinks otherwise, therefore you're wrong" because militaries and think tanks sometimes get things wrong. But do you think at any time since 2002, someone has thought that higher cut helmets might lead to a noticeable increase in casualties? Or is it more important to deal with the alarmingly high number of neck injuries in line units?

Sounds like bullshit. How would artillery possibly going to achieve such massive rates of frontal hits?

because artillery isn't the killer in conflicts like memes would have you believe. People in trenches tend to survive artillery just fine. It's getting shot in the face during an assault or defensive engagement that tends to cause dying.

          >People in trenches tend to survive artillery just fine
In WW1 the introduction of helmets reduced head injuries by 75%, so clearly not.

            >injuries
I'm still arguing you need to wear a helmet, just that a full cut isn't always needed. Helmets of WW1, in some cases, had less coverage than modern HC designs

    Hey Helmt thread,

I have a question, I have a old PAGST I got a webbing/chin-strap upgrade kit for, is there any reliable way to get these bolts off thats non-destructive?

It may not matter but wanted to keep the old straps intact if possible. (I couldn't get pliers to hold the bolt with the webbing on it)
