Is there a way to remove the idiot markings on a firearm?

Is there a way to remove the idiot markings on a firearm? I do not purchase guns with idiot markings on them but I am considering breaking that rule soon. I don't care if it ruins the resell value of my gun I don't sell my guns ever and never plan to so this is irrelevant. I just want a method of removing it that doesn't ruin the aesthetic or look of the firearm.

Could I just take it to a gunsmith and have them do something?

yeah, you grind it off then refinish the gun.

I don't have the time or skills for this. Is this something gunsmiths offer? i.e. I drop off the slide, let them know I want the idiot marks machined off, and then have the slide refinished? Will the end result be essentially the same look but without the idiot markings?

Lol no also blame ruger for not b***h slapping the moron boomer that didn't watch enough john wayne movies.

People always defend it saying "muh lawyers" but I own several handguns and none of them have idiot markings. Some of them are made in the USA so that's not an excuse either.

      >Could I just take it to a gunsmith and have them do something?
You'll want a machinist to mill it down past the lettering and refinish it.

      >You'll want a machinist to mill it down past the lettering and refinish it.
Do they need to mill the entire slide or just the part with idiot marks? Any machinist or a gunsmith specifically?

        Some of them, yes.
        >I drop off the slide, let them know I want the idiot marks machined off, and then have the slide refinished?
        Yes.
        >Will the end result be essentially the same look but without the idiot markings?
        You better hope so.

        >Do they need to mill the entire slide or just the part with idiot marks?
A good one will do both sides evenly to make everything match nicely.
        >Any machinist or a gunsmith specifically?
I don't know where you live so I don't know who would be good for you, but a gunsmith with a proper mill (not a drill press with an end mill chucked up) would be a decent bet. Ask around.

Why exactly do you NEED to have that warning removed?
It should be there so it should stay there.

When we say idiot marks are we talking about "GRIP ZONE" and "READ OWNERS MANUAL" type bullshit, or are we talking about idiot scratches where a used gun has marks all over it from some bubba trying to assemble it or disassemble it incorrectly?

      >When we say idiot marks are we talking about "GRIP ZONE" and "READ OWNERS MANUAL" type bullshi
That is clearly what OP is asking about, though you're right, "idiot mark" usually refers to a disassembly or gunsmithing frickup, or maybe hitting the frame with a punch trying to move a sight or remove a roll pin.

We're talking about OP's pic related. So yes, gripzone, owners manual, etc. You sound like you need idiot markings on your gun if you couldn't figure this out.

No, the guns where you are required to read a book to disassemble are next level

If you try to scratch them out forensics investigators can still read them with ultrasound. You have to completely remove the metal to remove all trace.

Former gunsmith here. I removed all these off my Rugers using a metal hand file and then polished and reblued. Not that hard if you know how to use a file but the finishing work and rebluing or what ever coating will require a gunshop with the right equipment.

This makes me think. Can you alter an existing gun so that it can only fire with the magazine removed? Like chamber a round, drop mag, fire, put mag back in, repeat?

        Anonymous

No? The firing mechanism on most guns isn't linked to the magazine in anyway at all.

      Oh totally yeah
There's a funny article written by and about an antigun soccermom who bought and carried a handgun into starbux, realized she had no idea about the state of it/potential danger, started having a breakdown and randomly approached a cop begging him for help, potentially like gun-in-palms shoving it away from herself at him but I can't remember or find the damn thing anymore

Forgot to add she bought it to either prove how easy and dangerous it was to do, or just because she could to see how it felt I forget which
