Is the AR15 it? Did Eugene Stoner really achieve perfection? Will every intermediate cartridge rifle be an AR15 from here to Mars or will someone ever come up with something that isnt just a meme rangetoy?
Picrel is some Turkish (I believe) soldiers carrying some HK33s. Common in their army along with the G3. Is there any point to the HK33, for example?
There are very few guns that are 5.56 other than the AR15 that aren’t memes
If I had to have another rifle in 5.56 other than the AR it would be a SIG variant, those don’t really provide much advantage of an AR other than having a foldable stock and a different gas system
>having a foldable stock
fair.
>and a different gas system
But does this come into play? Does it make a difference? Im dumb but the way I see it you press trigger bullet comes out, and what matters is its accuracy, capacity, the guns weight and length etc.
Piston guns can be easier to suppress/tune and usually foul slower than direct impingement.
>But does this come into play?
Yes. Usually up your nose, though the moronic AR charging handle is a major contributor. I rarely shoot my Colt SP-1 because the gas coming out from around the charging handle makes me sneeze. Bang-achoo-bang-achoo isn't nearly as fun as it sounds. My old FNCs otoh were great to shoot, they dumped their gas out near the front sight.
>the gas coming out from around the charging handle makes me sneeze.
That sounds very uncool. As a stemgay I do not want to breathe in all the lead and shit associated with flying powder/primer residue.
It can make a difference in colder/wet environments
For most people it will not
>It can make a difference in colder/wet environments
How is the AR15s reliability in various environments? People complain about it but I think its mainly boomers thinking about vietnam M16s and vatniks trying to shit on western gear.
CHAD SHOTGUNNER
He would be even more Chad if he had an M4...as in a Benelli M4.
When it comes to 5.56 rifles we have hit the wall of diminishing returns. There really is no point to use something other than an AR when you get so little out of it. Honestly I hope the next innovation is caseless ammo. That would be fricking badass.
>I hope the next innovation is caseless ammo
It's going to be polymer ammo
The HK33 isn't significantly less effective than the AR. Biggest thing it's missing is the last round bolt hold open. Other than that it's inexpensive, accurate and reliable. It's popular with countries that primarily use and license build the G3 (such as Turkey), since they share parts and it is convenient to build them alongside the rest of the G3 family of weapon systems. Because the design and ergonomics are similar, much of the training and experience with one will cross over to the other.
As for other non-AR-15 weapon systems there are a ton of AR-18 derivatives and similar designs. Basically AR multi-lug rotating bolt locking into a barrel extension but instead of having a piston inside the bolt carrier, the carrier is a much smaller and shorter BCG pushed back by a more conventional piston (either long or short stroke). It's simpler, stays cleaner, plays nicer with different muzzle devices and suppressors, is easier to do design changes with or cater to different requirements that could be done with an AR-15 "DI" system but would be a pain in the ass to implement. The most prominent feature is being able to have a true folding stock or configure the whole design as a bullpup since the shorter bolt carrier eliminates the need for a buffer tube.
I thought HKs are significantly more expensive than most guns.
>Honestly I hope the next innovation is caseless ammo.
Im hoping for telescoped ammo.
HK is more expensive than most companies.
The G3 and it's relatives got license built by everyone and their cousins because they are so cheap to make.
>HK33
As a C93 owner I found that the roller delayed blowback design really comes into it's own when using 5.56mm, the recoil is .22lr levels of control while reliability is frankly disgusting. I remember weekends of shooting 1000 rounds of Wolf 55gr steel case and not cleaning my rifle, and after 3000 rounds I cleaned it out of shame rather than need. The diopter sight is also under rated, it's pretty much the perfect combat irons.
>C93 owner
I kneel
>perfection
No.
>AR18
Yes.
Steyr's AUG is objectively a better infantry weapon than the AR—at a glance one can tell which was designed as an attempt at making the ultimate fighting rifle and which was designed as a technical exercise by an aerospace engineer.
He unironically kinda did. Every dumb frick trailer park bubba can not make an ak in their trailer righr headspace is a b***h so that rules out a ton of rifles but guess what they can slap together some anderson bear creek abominations that last longer than century arms made ak's.
They can attach a prebuilt upper to a prebuilt lower but GOD FRICK assembling an AR from parts is a pain in the ass if you don't do it for a living.
AK is better and would be more popular if it manufacturers today still didn't make it as the archaic riveted-welded-hydralic pressed assembled mess it was from the 40s and had more aftermarket modularity and drop in parts like the MGI Hydra and other ARs.
>They've taken STANAG and M14 mags.
>They've had takedown barrels.
>They have free float handguards.
>They come in a plethora of calibers and action lengths.
>They can be sub MOA accurized.
>They can be bullpuped no problem.
>They can have LRBHO mechanisms
>The cheapest ones come with iron sights by design
>They have loose tolerances, so better for cold and mud and cleaning
>They're engineered stupidly simply and economically so anyone can make them out of a cast pot metal and rifled rebar in their basement
And don't (You) me with fake aks like the Valmet, Galil, Sig 550, AK5C, etc. While they do have upgrades, they try to separate themselves from their roots so their manufacturers can sell their proprietary shit solely for easy government contracts instead of catering to the modularity of the consumer market like the AR15 has
Speaking of which: the only reason the AR is even as modular as is it is because it was made in America. Had the AK been birthed here and ARs in USSR, we'd have all the aftermarket shit we could dream of, while fmr comblocs and terrorists still use A2 style M16s in 202x while the "richest" nations would just now start using m4a1s
my country has a doctrinal requirement for a bullpup, so no need for an AR-15
Austria?
No the AR15 is basically perfect. The only improvement that could be made is to upgrade the caliber to 6mm arc or something. But functionally/aesthetically speaking, the AR15 is perfect
The 5.56 and AR-15 are shit rifles
I would take an SKS over an AR-15 any day
7.62 has superior stopping power
one shot, the enemy is down, dead
I have heard more than enough veterans talking about shooting ruskie child soldiers and they keep trying to aim or reload their AK, a second shot, they hit the ground, but they're still trying to reload or aim their gun, or just moving around still, a third shot, and finally they are dead
This never happens with the 7.62
I have never heard a single soldier talk about 7.62 failing to dispatch the enemy
5.56 is a pistol caliber
7.62 is a carbine caliber
They are intermediate rounds and I am tired of pretending they're not
Zero recoil in full auto for the both of them
Are soldiers just weak or am I fricking Herculean?
Give me a fricking full auto 303
