Is there a place for swords in the modern warfare? Could you come up with a doctrine in which they could be used effectively?

Tanks don't live long in this war, especially in an offensive role.

At best you might be able to come up with an excuse to use them in block by block city fighting. Even then you have way better options, I too wish that swords were not obsolete.

I just wanna be like Jetstream Sam and have a cool sword while also being a part of a PMC. I hate this gay drone based warfare world we're building.

At few points in history were swords anything more than a sidearm. I find swords to be the quintessential weapon, the symbol of strength and masculinity, but from a utilitarian perspective they are not the best tool for the job in most situations. It is one thing to love this sword or that, but from a purely utilitarian perspective anyone that is even slightly into weapons knows that you use the best tool for the job. In the modern day especially there is no real effective place for a sword. Throughout most of history they were a symbol rather than a truly effective weapon. It is obscenely obvious that they have absolutely no use today other than as ceremonial pieces for use in parade.

Stop it with this dumbass meme
If they weren't effective weapons soldiers wouldn't have bothered spending their limited money on buying them or carrying them into battle
They're not the bestest most deadliest ever, but they do their job

I watched a vid about the storming of the Reichstag yesterday and I thought pistols and a shortsword would probably have been more effective than an assault rifle.

Yes, but very limited. Replace machete with short gladius, use to cut weeds in jungle warfare or to finish off sleepign enemy when infiltrate they camp.
    Katanas is shit sword.

Yeah, everyone agrees that at the blow of the whistle, they stop using their guns and start swordfighting for a few minutes. Anyone who uses their gun at this time is declared a cheater and is disqualified from the war, and all of his kills don't count anymore.
Trust me I play a lot of airsoft so I know what I'm talking about, I'm basically a combat veteran and I think I could take a navy seal in a fight, especially if we have swords.

The most your going to get melee wise is the occasional knife kill but those are probably rare as hell

    Yes.
Useful in wounding prisoners. But you'd need nads of steel to sneak up on a enemy at night, bring a sword up to his neck and whisper"
    Good morning ol chap".

Much less doing it about 20 times in a row.

  26. 2 years ago

Maybe if you hide in a building in a closet the whole war waiting for the enemy to come, once they do fly out sword swinging and cut as many as you can before someone shoots and kills you. Added bonus if you take shit tons of stims and morphine so you keep on going after getting shot.

    >Is there a place for swords in the modern warfare? Could you come up with a doctrine in which they could be used effectively?
No, there is absolutely no place for a sword on a modern battlefield. The only thing remotely related would be a machete to deal with shrubbery. I love swords, I do HEMA, trust me on this.
Also, I'm ready to bet money that at least one guy gets killed by either sword or bow in this special military operation, just because it is so fricking stupid.
