What do you mean by modern?

At a minimum double stack and an in use caliber

      Newer than CZ52.

what does it do that gas delayed blowback doesn't?

Higher pressures or longer service life, potentially greater accuracy vs tilting-barrel

        >longer service life
don't rollers need replacing fairly often?
        >greater accuracy vs tilting-barrel
gas delayed blowback guns have a fixed barrel

I believe that with hardened rollers no, the Czechs oopsied with the CZ52 and used shit metal

If the rollers are the harder part then the rails wear out instead, and they're more difficult to replace. Brilliant idea, engineer-kun.

Fair but would that wear be of any significance? Obviously we don't know, but if you had to guess, a 25k round problem or a 5k round problem

At least with the CZ-52 rollers they would develop a flat spot and then grind away at the slide once they stop rolling which is a much worse outcome than (possibly) accelerated wear from hardened rollers

            >Czechs oopsied with the CZ52 and used shit metal
The Czechs have always made really questionable design choices, the Vz52 pistol is just the best of the worst
            >dewienerer on a single action pistol
            >dewienerer is just a thumb operated trigger
            >firing pin and rollers made of pot metal
            >weaker action than the tokarev
It's a cool piece of trash

I don't remember the source but most of the absurdity of the Vz52 is explained by it being originally a 9mm Luger double action pistol that had to be neutered to stop the soviet's from crying. There are prototypes of the original design.

Tilting barrel is the simplest way of accomplishing short recoil, but straight back has also been done, and this avoids the potential accuracy issues. Requires an extra part. Look up the arsenal firearms strike one.

        Accuracy.
At what distances pray tell do you plan on making accurate shots with an autoloading "normie" caliber pistol.
Most are mechanically sufficient for 100 yard , torso shots, probably slightly beyond.
The mk23 and i think the usp added a rubber ring to give a consistent barrel position making them more accurate

Pistol ammo also is not made up to rifle accuracy standards.

As far as higher preassures, the LARS Grizzly autoloader uses basically a "beefed up" tilting barrel short recoil system to fire a plethora of "magnum" pistol cartriges like 45 winmag, 50ae, 44mag ecc.

There is a rollerdelayed autoloading pistol, the korth 1911

Italian Delta AR Topgun. Very rare pistol.

      Korth PRS.

Wrong. The Delta AR is also truly roller locked. The PRS is roller delayed.

    No, there is not.

  7. 1 month ago

No. Short recoil is simpler and better suited to a pistol form factor. Roller delayed offers no advantages.

Also, there are delayed actions that are simpler than roller delayed. Lever delayed like in the 5.7 guns for example.

!= and =/= mean the same thing, but the != is used in programming languages.

Is the slide of a Vz. 52 really significantly wider than say a Glock? Can't find dimensions

        Anonymous

It's extremely narrow. The whole gun is narrow due to the single stack magazine and thin slide.

Meaning a modern roller locked or a modern 7.62x25?
5.7 has some of the spirit of 7.62x25 at least but I think Canadians can get chink 7.62x25 handguns

Now that we're talking about cool/different locking systems:
Does anyone have a gif or video or something that shows a rotating barrel action, like the px4?

Is there a meaningful difference between roller delayed and roller locked? Is the locking what allows greater pressures, but both hand recoil with the rollers?

      Anonymous

Yes, locked is locked, it just uses rollers instead of lugs or a block or something. Delayed is just blowback with a mechanical advantage which slows down the bolt until the rollers are out of the way, allowing for a lighter bolt and softer springs.
