Is the SPAS12 still under patent?

When can I expect a PSA or Brownells knockoff?

Never. The features it offered were very limited use case and result in wasted complexity, weight and price. The only reason it was ever remotely popular is because of Terminator and Jurassic Park. They also had a host of issues including the safety lever recall and the receiver cracking with buffer issues. I own the LAW-12, its somewhat lighter semi-auto only sister. They're not bad guns, but you can go buy multiple better semi-auto shtoguns right now.

Yeah but no one buys retro shit because its effective, they buy it cause its cool. Semi auto mp5s, retro ARs, I'm sure those people would spend $1000 on a SPAS even if its dumb

        >Yeah but no one buys retro shit because its effective
They also don't buy it unless its cheap. Mp5s are cheap because roaches and poos do all the labor on equipment they got second hand, retro ARs are cheap because they have overwhelming parts commonality with modern ARs. A repro SPAS would not be 1k and would quickly get into shelf-warmer territory, just like the repro FG42s and automags did.

Even if you got one, it beats itself to death. It's not a reliable firearm. It's just a meme novelty. I wouldn't spend more than $500 on a firearm that isn't bomb proof. You are asking someone, ANYONE to invest millions of dollars to recreate a firearm, that is inherently bad.

Just stop being an autist and get a Benelli M4 or Beretta 1301 like the cool kids.

Another bog standard basic boring ass AR. Oooooh this one’s barrels is 1” longer than my other one and shoots big bullets! Such a cool “new” gun!

If I had 5,000 I might. Out of pragmatism, I might stick with the HMG-44 in 7.62x39 instead. Not in the mood to chase another ammo pool.

                >HMG-44
Yeah thats not happening. DK productions is a better chance of making the bd-44s though in the original 8mm kurz which is still available on the commercial market

          >mp5s are cheap
          >$3000

Even for gun autists $3k is a pretty significant chunk of money for a semi auto only, outdated pistol caliber gun.

        >Yeah but no one buys retro shit because its effective, they buy it cause its cool.
Correction, collectors buy them because they are cool. The average gun owner sees one, thinks its cool, maybe fingerfricks it, but never buys it. That's why most actual retro/clone guns are either discontinued like the entire Brownells retro line or priced sky high to keep the production profitable like SMG FG-42s.

Brownell's didn't discontinue due to demand, they discontinued to :

          1. Pandemic parts availability dropping off
          2. NoDak Spud being bought by PSA

They narrowed down the retro line of pre-assembled rifles at first and basically kept it to Proto, A1, and XM177 style guns because those were all selling reasonably well as assembled guns, but they kept the parts available for others at first. Then once they became unable to source the parts, they discontinued them. Shorty after this happened NoDak Spud was bought by PSA, who is now making H&R branded M16A1 clones (only receiver sets so far).

These have been nearly $2,000 until very recently, when the third world began cutting every corner
        >retro ARs
These are the exact same as normal AR-15, except easier to manufacture. They also work just fine
        > people would spend $1000 on a SPAS
Yeah they would. Too bad production is going to cost like $2,500

          >Yeah they would. Too bad production is going to cost like $2,500

If you want to shoot it you gotta throw cash at like half the catalog of replacement parts on spas12.com and wait about a year for them to restock so it evens out

What exactly is the added complexity on these? The dual pump/semi auto? Benelli m3s do it without being too expensive.

        Anonymous

its built in particularly bendy chinky shitty way where parts that shouldn't move, move and parts that should, get all bent up or crack

people like it because they don't own guns and the heat shield looks cool. thats pretty much the end of it

people who own guns know the M3 Super 90 and M4 are the coolest frickin things ever made

          >gun from the 70s is not as technically developed as a modern gun

I really wonder why people suddenly forget these meme guns are all antiques and expect them to be as functional as cutting edge tactical shit. People like old shit because its cool not because its objectively the best choice, theres repros for pre WW1 trapdoor guns and mausers, no motherfricker is gonna be doing tactical drills with a clip fed broomhandle.

        >What exactly is the added complexity on these? The dual pump/semi auto?
It was an innovator, and it was underbuilt rather than overbuilt. Shit like the unnecessary shoulder hook took up a bunch of space and weight that they then carved out of the receiver and forend. The Spazz is from an era where semi-auto shotguns had to be fairly precisely tuned to their ammo, and it's quite finicky in semi-auto mode while having limited options to actually tune the >gun<. It wound up looking very cool because of all the lightening cuts. It's also fragile and rattly and deeply uncomfortable to use.

They fricking suck, the only reason to get one is if you're making a pulse rifle clone.

It's a finicky, fragile, jam-hungry b***h. Both the people I know who bought one re-sold it within two years. I've shot one a couple times. The pump is awful and feels like flimsy garbage, and the stock is really fricking bad.

This. It's genuinely a mercy to cut the shrouds off of it and it partially makes up for what you have to do to that poor Thompson parts kit.

Why make a knock off when you can make a parts kit to dress up a generic affordable mossberg or Benelli? Functionality is the same or better nowadays.

Hell Benelli bought Franchi in the late 90s so they wouldnt compete with their tactical shotguns. A new Spas would just be a dressed up Benelli.

It had a role as a stopgap while reliable autoloading shotguns weren't around yet. It holds no purpose nowadays and is unnecessarily heavy for what it is.

Just shell out $3k for a Benelli m3 lmao or $150 for the Turkshit copy which will only run in semi auto until the receiver cracks 50 rounds in.

        Lol no.
What was bleeding edge in 1979 is pointless in present day.
Its a heavy overcomplicated thing that wants to break and needs new parts with limited support to keep from eating itself alive. Like the FIRST thing is to replace this plastic buffer thing that is notorious for dry rotting. I THINK SPAS12.com sold them but I just decided to sell mine.

Get a Benelli M3 instead. Easy button all the way

Ok, Benelli is Italian, and they were part of the axis, but come on. It's Italian! Anything short of a 93r is just pointless.

Oh, come on. You've got work for it if you want to get any kind of enjoyment out of it. Do something to invite people for a home invasion. Like put up a sign on your lawn that tells people how much money you have. Distribute flyers in your closest ghetto, with your address and detailed descriptions about all the expensive items you own.
