Is the Russian Army out of Ak-74's?

Every video I see of the russian Draftees shows them with AK-47's. Did they sell them all off or something? I was wondering if they all got carried off by corrupt soldiers after the fall of the Soviet Union.

How many did they produce? Did they make more 74's than 47's?

Ukies had captured an AN-94 in April, but the photo only showed it's buttstock.

Do they still have the ability to manufacture the AK-74 or have they sold off the tooling long ago, like they did with the T-62?

They definitely have the tooling and Kalashnikov Concern actually has the capability to make its own tools as well. It's a pretty squared away facility. This makes their issue of rusty AKMs even more baffling.

improper storage and maintenance in the case of those working in the particular armories where the rusty AKs came from. The most likely thing to consider however is that the rusty AKs were more than likely pulled from a decrepit area where they were just sitting out in the open air and exposed to the elements as well as countless years of ever shifting seasonal weather patterns.

Anon I understand the chemistry of why they would rust, my point is that Russia has no excuse for being unable to provide AK74s when they have the capability to manufacture them in large numbers.

I thought they hadn’t built any new ones in years. The guys who made them went bankrupt designing the AK-12, The company got nationalized. Then AK-12 was shit canned because they said they had enough AK-74’s stockpiled. Then never made anymore to save a few rubles

The entire AK12 program has been a train wreck lmao. All they had to do was drop an Ultimak rail on a 74 and call it a day. But the thing is, their supposed strength was partially tied to the ability to mooobalize, which should imply either the ability to issue 100000+ AK74s and/or make tens of thousands per month.

Kalashnikov keeps atleast one copy of the toolings for all models of their firearms and has internal capacity to manufacture extra toolings atleast for their older firearms

They stopped buying the AK74's in about 2010- 2011 or maybe a bit earlier. So my guess is they probably still have a lot of them, (somewhere) but they also sold a lot of them to random countries

It's probably a case of what was available at the nearest warehouse. There's probably tons of AKMs in older more widespread Soviet warehouses while the 74 is less widely spread but still available. Just my guess.

The manifest says we have 2.5 million AK-74's, the supply commiserate says we have 2.5 million AK-74's, the storage site commander says we have 2.5 million AK-74's and the inspector says we have says we have 2.5 million AK-74's.

In reality there are 300K and they are rusted to crap. All the rest went onto the black market so someone could buy a nice yacht.

Russia kept liquidating their small arms stocks since the 90's, they never expected to need to arm millions of people, so it was an easy way to make a quick buck and also save money on long term storage maintenance.
They didn't keep enough of 74s in reserve to equip hundreds of thousands of draftees, so they're issuing what they have in long term storage. That would be AKMs.
You might actually see SKS make a comeback if they insist on dragging this shitshow out.

If given a choice between a Mosin Nuggets they were handing out to the Donbabweans or an SKS I'd rather an SKS- assuming firing it was probably unlikely.

Ironically enough, it makes very little difference what they get.
They're untrained, unmotivated troops who were living ordinary wagecuck lives only weeks ago.
None of them are likely to ever get to use their rifles.

Even if you personally were a Green Beret and got issued an SR-25, the outcome would be the exact same because the rest of your squad, your platoon and your company are worse than useless. You'll be ordered to charge some machine gun bunker Saving Private Ryan style, because the reconnaissance consisting of horse cavalry scouts told your 65-year old mobik commander that the rusted-out, crooked Donbabwean M1943 D1 howitzers have cleared out the enemy.

    They went from AK-74M's, BMP-3's, Tigr's, and pimped-out T-90s to AKM's, BMP-1's, BTR-60s, and T-62's real fast.
