Is the Italian army shit?
Aside from their equipment which is the most easily quantified part, what about training, command and control, quality of officers, organization, sustainability (ammo, spares, fuel, manpower reserves), logistics.
I know that since it never does anything it's not combat proven and doesnt have any experience in the last 80 years apart from a very small % that got involved in Iraq and Afghanistan but it was almost no one.
>Is the Italian Army shit?
In WW2 yeah.
I'm always surprised to hear European countries have militaries since they've begged the US to protect them for 77 years
>I'm always surprised to hear European countries have militaries since they've begged the US to protect them for 77 years
This is pure yankee moronation.
You may say this when you pay your fair share in NATO. Otherwise, sit down and shut up. Know your place and thank America for protecting your irrelevant shithole.
Lel. America is relevant because all the bases in Eu and all over the world help spreading USA influence. Americans get more money from the military presence than they spend for keeping it. This is why China and Russia seethe. Except for moronic die hard republicans, everyone knows that it's better for the USA to foot military bills in order to ensure and enforce american ordnung.
It's also beneficial for Europe too. The system has been in place for so long because it works
>You may say this when you pay your fair share in NATO
The agreed fair share is 2% gdp, my country spends 2.3.
Try again though, moron burger.
This. Europoor seethe is a thing to behold. Its like an ant trying to yell down a tiger.
Americans keep whining abou this shit, but in the past 70 year the only time our military has done shit has been on UN missions or helping America or France with their moronic wars in the middle east.
I mean it's not like European countries ever do shit on geopolitical level, especially militarily, not even threaten to use violence by posturing, except France, I mean look at Libya and Italy and Turkey, the most Italy does to have influence in a resource rich country that's in it's own backyard is to plant a field hospital, that's it, meanwhile the Turks support the other side (I dont remember the name, and get influential in libya)

Turkey supports the official Libyan government that's recognized by the UN. France supports warlord Haftar. Italy by and large supports the Libyan government too.
There were some points where Italy didn't like Turkish involvement in Libya but they've realized that actually Turkish backing of the GNA is a good thing, and it's the Libyan government that runs the coastguard which prevents mass emigration to Europe from Libya, whereas Haftar's forces are completely lawless and are involved with human-trafficking and ransom kidnapping. Italy's oil investments and projects in Libya require a stable government wheras Haftar's LNA and allies are the opposite of that.
>whereas Haftar's forces are completely lawless and are involved with human-trafficking and ransom kidnapping.
Why does France support them?
Ok bit I dont see it as a point that one government blocks immigration or not, the Italian government, if it wasn't cucked, could stop it anyway by itself by not letting immigrants in, not taking them when they're out in the sea, or actively shooting the boats
Above average air force.
Nice navy.
Exceptional Helis.
Meh infantry (mostly a job for jobless southerners).
Overall: worse than France, better than Germany.
Can you provide a why to your evaluation?
Also I mean as a whole, would they be able to actually perform and sustain any military operation?
Air force and helps: Italy has nice plants for production of both and very competent engineers. Mangusta is probably one of the top helis as of today and Leonardo is the only company in the world outside the USA that produces F35.
Same with the Navy, Italy has good tech knowledge of how to build robust and fast ships, also cannons for said ships.
Fiocchi is a huge ammo manufacturer, one of the biggest in the world and considered strategic for Nato, again, Italian.
Tanks: shit. A waste of money to produce and field, IFv are meh. In general if I was in charge of a fantasy Eu Army, I would buy ships and Helis from Italy, tanks from Germany, subs from France or England and Planes and missiles from USA. IFV from Nordics, they are quite good, Swedish are top tier I believe but I may be wrong
>Same with the Navy, Italy has good tech knowledge of how to build robust and fast ships, also cannons for said ships.
Italian warships are extremely underrated - even the US navy is buying them.
>and Leonardo is the only company in the world outside the USA that produces F35.
I thought the Japs did too
