It has no screen or meters so you have less of an idea of what you're digging up when compared to better models that can show the metal types and shit.
Every beep is a surprise each time.
Might be time for an upgrade tbh, though i wouldn't know because i have yet to get onto the field and mess around with a detector. Getting a nokta makro legend which seems pretty decent for a budget detector at least from the reviews.
>Might be time for an upgrade tbh
If I did it more then I'd probably be fine with dropping the $300 for a good model. But since I only go out with it on occasion, it gets the job done.
If I ever start doing it with more frequency then yes, I will get a better one. At least one with a screen lmao.
i'm personally more concerned about depth, and if you're at the beach, also water resistance.
if a place has been hunted out heavily, the extra capability to detect deeper targets would be beneficial.

>i'm personally more concerned about depth, and if you're at the beach,
Luckily I don't live anywhere near a beach
The depth is probably better on a new one for sure. Maybe I should do I test and see how deep it goes or something.
not many seem too interested, I went to the beach recently with my newly purchased nokta makro legend and got a bunch of clad. it's hard work, but very fun even if you don't find anything cool.
>not many seem too interested
Sadly so but then again, less detectorists = more treasure to find >and got a bunch of clad
That's all I ever find. Other than copper pennies. Those are nice I guess..
>you searching at parks?
Not yet. I'm going to go with my little brother who enjoys doing it with me but he's only her during the summer.
This idea of doing it alone in public feels weird. Like eating alone or something. >perhaps the playgrounds are going to be easy pickings
I hope so.
It'll get muddy digging in all that dirt if you're digging the field. Beach hunts are much more easier until you get to the water level. Hope you have a pinpointer as well, those things will save you alot of time.

I've done a couple beach hunts before and yeah they were pretty easy. Didn't even need a pinpointer for those. >Hope you have a pinpointer as well, those things will save you alot of time
But yes I do have one and has saved me lots of time since I got it

They say you wanna hit the wet sands mainly cause the water washes stuff up eventually anyways. Just zig zag between high and low tide zones until you hit alot of targets, then spiral out or narrow your zig zags. Like objects seem to stick in the same areas.
land surveyors constantly use metal detectors in the middle of nowhere to locate a metal pipe nobody has seen in 40 years. its fun i love my job and has a practical use for metal detection
>Cropping out Young Hugh
Kek. I actually used to detect in a very similar area to where the show was filmed. I have a massive field behind my house which I nighthawked from time to time. Found a civil war musket ball and a few coins. Nothing really exciting though.
>Is it an activity typically done outside?
Walking from the entrance to a building to your car is also an activity typically done outside, so I'm afraid it's not quite that simple. Other activities typically done outside: >taking the dog for a walk >landscaping, yard work >music concerts >sports events >circuses, fairs, carnivals, etc. >farmer's markets, street markets >farming and agriculture >roofing, painting, etc.
So as you can see, there mere fact of doing something without having a roof over your head doesn't qualify an activity as PrepHole. Personally I've long been on the fence about metal detecting, because it requires an electrical device and typically involves not going innawoods but in fact deliberately staying near populated areas where people are/were likely to have dropped, lost, or buried shit.
beach detecting is easy, but it depends on where you look for the best results. If there's a huge gravel patch on the beach. checking in front of that usually nets good results as the beach washes things in and the heavier objects drop in front of the gravel. The same idea for gold panning is applied here.
I wish I had a beach near me.
There is a creek I plan on detecting by one of these days. Mexicans and rednecks go fishing there so I'm expecting to find fish hooks but maybe one of their rings could have fallen off or something.
if they swim in those waters you might find something worth while. Apparently people tend to drop alot of stuff when swimming whether it's in the ocean or in local swimming holes.
I've done it a few times. I've scouted out a couple parks by my house to go to.
I found picrel a few months ago where an old double wide used to be.
what detector did you use?
Garret Treasure Ace 100
Its a very barebones budget analog model from the 80s but works excellently for a casual like me.

nice photo, you take it?
I found this historical treasure. This is my most unusual find ever.
>Milwaukee
This is amazing
this doesn't even seem real! What kind of environment did you find it in? Was it in a field?
I found it near the Oconee River in Georgia. I think it is from the 1936 Olympics in Germany.
Thanks

Yeah I could imagine watches and bracelets coming off in the same water.
rings too, your fingers tend to shrivel when in the water for too long, and the rings just fall right off.
