Is it worth getting a S&W Model 19 in current year? Primarily for hunting pigs, deer and bear/mountain lion defense.
>muh obsolescent get a pistol
I already have a Glock 19 for CC. This is for a different use.

I got this because of its history even though it’s a century outdated
Then tinkered with it to lower the trigger pull greatly so I could use as a target and camping pistol
If something has appeal, get it, it’s like an accessory that can still be used in emergencies
>Is it worth getting a S&W Model 19 in current year
Of course. At least for playing Dirty Harry.
It's imperial Nagant, a rarity.
Wait, not Dirty Harry. Jigen Daisuke
The hillary hole and shrouded barrel are a deal breaker because they make the revolver ugly as fuck.
Isn't the entire point of getting a Model 19 to look suave and classy and LARP like said? Might as well get a Glock 20 for "duh bear defense".
Didn't he actually use a Model 19 on screen becasuse .44 was too much or not available or something?
Worth? Well it's not minmaxed, that's for sure. And also not the best. Also .357 is on the low end of animal defense/hunting, it's really more of an anti-people-cartridge or for smaller game.
You should get it anyway because it looks nice, is somewhat affordable and shoots good enough. And .357 is really a lot more pleasant to shoot than .44.
>Didn't he actually use a Model 19 on screen becasuse .44 was too much or not available or something?
No. He used the 8 inch M29 in the movie and the 10" M29 for the movie's poster. I think he was supposed to use a shorter barrel in the movie but the guns were hard to find at the time because S&W were making so few before the movie blew them up.
Actually scratch that, the script was written with the 4" barrel in mind but they couldnt find one so the movie was the 6" barrel with the poster being the 8".
The story I heard, which is probably bullshit as most stories like these usually are, was that supposedly they had to use a model 57 in .41 magnum as a stand in due to a lack of availability of the model 29's at the time.
>When you promise her 8", but can only deliver 6"
>Also .357 is on the low end of animal defense/hunting, it's really more of an anti-people-cartridge or for smaller game.
No animal, domestic or foreign, ever went "tis but a .357". Buffalo Bore 180gr JHPs kill just about everything that needs killing deader than dead, bipedal or quadrupedal.
>No animal, domestic or foreign
i mean, an elephant would probably shug it off pretty easily
ditto for a rhino or a hippo
personally, i'd feel confident with a .357 with anything up to a bear. for bears and bigger, i would pucker hard.
.357 to the dome or vitals is still going to kill an elephant. Or a rhino. Or a hippo. They have been taken with less and much more primitive bullet technology in the past. And no bear has ever survived any encounter with a 9mm. .357 is just fine.
Why not just get a 29 and be Dirty Harry?
>I already have a Glock 19 for CC. This is for a different use.
You can use it for this use, assuming it fits energy requirements for hunting in your state.
Just looked at it, in my state 500 foot-lbs. are needed at the muzzle for deer.
The highest Underwood's goes to in 9mm is their +p+ 124 gr. hollow point (hollow points are needed in my state as well, can't use hardcast flat nose apparently), at only 465 foot-lbs..
Don't you already have an AR?
>me like hard cast!
>don't ask me to explain why tho!
Yes absolutely
yes, they're fun. I'd wait for a good deal though.
Yeah
>Primarily for hunting pigs, deer and bear/mountain lion defense.
.357 is underpowered for all of those purposes
get a model 629 instead
>hillary hole
you're free to pay the boomer tax and buy an older one, i won't stop you
>hillary hole
Hence why he said buy an older model pre-hillary, like a -2, you noguns gays.
I'd rather have no revolver than one with a hillary hole and those horrible cheapo internals.
>pay the boomer tax
A later 19 without a hole, like a 19-4 for example, doesn't cost any more than a new 19 does.
Hell yeah, dude. Blued S&W's are sexy.
Sneed sells feed and seed. Chuck, on the other hand, sells fuck and suck.
Hunting with a revolver can be a lot of fun. But there are better platforms. I suggest a Ruger Super Redhawk in .44mag with the 7.5 barrel. It comes with scope rings for mounting a long eye relief scope.
