Is it pretty much a done deal once the javelin targets and fires?

Is it pretty much a done deal once the javelin targets and fires? Is there anyway to evade a missile with a near vertical path? Would deploying IR smoke work? Make the jokes about me being a Russian tank driver quickly then let’s get to the topic at hand

A vertical APS should be enough and probably easier than horizontal attacks. All APS in service don't work against top attack although they speak about "total coverage" iirc.

So vertical aps can protect against top attack but vertical aps doesn’t exist?

Supposedly Arena is also anti-Top Attack, big emphasis in the supposedly.
Top attack kills weren't that common before Ukraine. And normal APS, except for Israel, is rare. In the same way, there're many possible ways to counter-APS but none in use because they're rare.

With smoke It'd suffice. The only problem is that the IR seekers are passive so It's difficult to know you're being targeted. The best way would be having SHORAD vehicles and portable radars nearby to detect their launch and send a signal to the friendly vehicles to deploy smoke

Doesnt the Javelin missle just commit to the last known location when it has lost visual? If it saw the target before the smoke and the target does not move it will still impact right? Then again if you deploy smoke it is probably a good time to get out of whereever you are, although the webm truck doesnt

If you were to move around without deploying smoke first you'd be 100% dead. With smoke deployed your chances of survival greatly increases

        >Doesnt the Javelin missle just commit to the last known location when it has lost visual?
According to grunts I know, no. Apparently this is a bit of a downside when using it near dense vegetation - if a tree canopy comes between the missile and it's target it'll lose lock. I don't think the missile has any onboard inertial navigation, so it just flies away on a ballistic path

It may have been fixed already, the stuff that gets fired in training is the very oldest stock so we're talking missiles manufactured in the 80s and 90s

He made that up. Never take third hand accounts about systems seriously. I’ve used javelins on targets near vegetation and never had any problems. That’s a second hand account. My secondhand account trumps his third hand account

You absolutely are making it up. No one who ever fired a javelin told that to you. The issue you raised has never been discussed because it’s never happened. The javelin is incredibly good at picking out its target. You are just another example of someone who seethes at American weapons.

                >javelins range is only 2.5 instead of advertised 5km
The javelins sent to Ukraine are 2.5 because they use the first gen CLU. The 5km range is for vehicle mounted or for use with the LWCLU that is being issued to the US. I’ll close with a video of a single UKranian soldier destroying 4 Russian armored vehicles in a row using the javelin. You can respond with a video of javelin missing it’s target

Being fair, there is a failure rate on most weaponry around or above 1%. Or they could be fricking up user error style. Like, failures happen on missiles that are manufactured en mass with only thought of cost.
                Not unusual being honest.
The copers are the people who can't handle their weapon system having a few misfires and frick ups because they think their MIC is totally infallible. But realistically you would think a missile that's been in service this long would have a relatively low failure rate.

If mass manufacturers that make cars have airbags which are mass manufactured to the millions
                >2004-2007 Honda Accord are at the highest risk of an airbag failure at 2.16 percent

It has a very low failure rate. One media outlet reporting anonymous sources close to the javelin isn’t relevant.

Not really. Assuming that you somehow detect the launch of a Javelin the moment it fires AND deploy your smoke, it's already upon you before the smoke has time to bloom and cover the vehicle.

        >Vehicles have to stand still

The problem is that a passive seeker just not visible enough for most mobilised conscript troops to reliably react fast enough even if they spot it at launch, let alone near terminal.

Let the tanks add "microwave beacons" so any basic anti-rad missile would one shot them.

You have to detected it first. It's a passive seeker with a low signature motor. Do you want to radiate radar waves 100% of the time in all azimuth and elevations above the horizon? Do you want staring IR sensors that trigger every time a tracer flies by your tank or you drive past something on fire?
Those are your options for detection, pretty much. Then you could would have to be mobile enough to make sure you can both achieve concealment AND get to it. If you are in a Russian tank, you can accelerate forward or crawl backwards on your single reverse gear.
Will moving forward get you to a better place or move you out of cover and into a worse situation?
