Is it possible to turn an APC into a mobile home similar to a campervan, and would such a thing be useful in SHTF scenarios?

    I don't really see why you couldn't

Possible? Sure. If you've got enough machining knowhow, you can almost certainly remove the seats, space the interior out, etc. It won't be as cozy as an RV, space wise, but it'll be somewhere you can lay down at night. As far as it being useful? Hell no. Finding 100+ gallons of diesel during SHTF is NOT going to happen. It's also going to be noisy as frick, so good luck keeping it hidden if needed.

The only way this would be even slightly viable would be if you stripped its armor panels and replaced them with lighter material, but at that point, it defeats the purpose of the hypothetical.

What are they gonna do with their homosexual ARs? You're in a fricking APC lmao.

It would be easy to do it for most of them in terms of putting down a cot/mattress for sleeping, but it'll be cramped when you add in a stove, microwave, or other household appliances.
The bigger APCs would be nicer and easier for this but they're always way more expensive and unless you're some youtube rich homosexual funded by the ~~*LEVIATHAN TRIBE*~~ you're not going to afford a proper Type 87 to turn into a nice tactical mobile home.

You're most likely going to be able to find, much less importantly afford an ex-Soviet shitheap like a BRDM which sucks in ergonomics, has janky doors and hatches, far too few vision slits/windows and way too much lead paint.
It'd be easier to take something like an Ambulance model HMMMVVVV and just put some bunk beds in it on one side with a mini-fridge and stove bolted down to the other side or alternatively in a compartment that opens to the outside since cooking where you sleep is dumb and WILL start fires.

Not really ideal, since you'd want something that still has it's NBC seals intact.
What about a stryker? Or one of the bong wheelie bois(my knowledge of them isn't great so I'm not sure of the names, Saracen?)?

Yeah, but you'd have to put up with the grimy bilge water stank.

    Physically possible? Yes.
    Practical? Probably not.

Getting one registered as a road legal vehicle is going to depend where you live. If it's tracked that's probably going to be a no-go. Driving a tracked vehicle around long distance is tricky since they tend to be very slow so highways are a no go, most wheeled APCs can barely keep up with traffic either but as long as they can do at least 55 they might be viable.
Maintenance on any military vehicle is also very hard for one person to do, there are usually no independent mechanics who can or would be willing to help and the supply chain for parts and wear items very rarely intersects with civilian vehicles so you have to scrounge everything you need. For instance you probably can't get an oil or air filter for a BTR-80 at AutoZone.

The less moronic approach would be a used armored car from a bank since those are just commercial trucks with an armored body on top. It's kind of extra effort for nothing though because it's usually not armored enough to protect from rifle fire, and you don't have the awesome off road capabilities that an actual APC has.
I have a boner for the Cadillac Gage Ranger/Peacekeeper series because they use old 1970s Dodge truck components and look boss as frick (lot of SWAT teams used them in the 80s/90s). Couple of them have gotten out into private hands but you aren't getting one in good shape or for reasonable money. Plus it is still just a truck with an armored body so besides looking cool and stopping a stray 9mm it really doesn't do anything useful.

Sure, probably be kinda cramped tho
    >would such a thing be useful in SHTF scenarios?
Absolute dogshit fuel economy, lack of replacement parts, and overall conspicuousness would likely frick you over.

Honestly, considering that society is unlikely to *completely* devolve into mad max-esque lawlessness in a real SHTF a regular ass camper/vanlife setup would probably be more useful.

Could be useful if it weren't for maintenance and fuel. If you can't source both it's jist a liability. The reason why technicals in the middle east are so prolific. You have reliable vehicles that can be augmented with different weapons and armor plus sourcing parts is easier because you can cannibalize other vehicles.

You can turn anything into a camper if it has enough space and you have enough fabrication skill. Those things are shit on fuel though, you're likely not going to make it from your home to your bug out location, not exactly a road tripper. Check the mpg and range of them and see if it works for you. It might be more viable to get a camper or school bus conversion and just try not to get shot at or drive through a nuclear radiated area. Sure it's not as cool but it's definitely more grayman and practical.

M113 has 96 gallons of diesel internally. It's optimal efficiency is 25mpg. That's like 2400 miles. That's plenty far enough to get anywhere you want.

You posted a link to a Mercedes-Benz forum discussing the gas mileage of the M113 engine present in E-Classes produced in the late-90s/early 2000s

You may notice that this is not, in fact, the aluminum hulled, tracked APC built by FMC corporation from the years 1960-2007

The M113 is also not a Bradley, but that's neither here nor there

360 liters (95 US gal.) with an operating range of 480 km (300 miles) is about 3.2 MPG.

Lenco Bears and Bearcats are already pretty much hollowed out for conversions. I've been in a Bear and it feels like being in a giant rolling safe. I'm not sure how well they do off road, they look yo be made more for on road and are street legal.

depends. anything that could carry 24 men probably has enough space for a decent camper conversion but it was only about 6 made and they are believed to have all been scrapped

Yes and no, but larpdreams are fun validation fantasies. SHTF vehicles must be chose for ubiquity of parts donors and the ability of the owner to rebuild their choice axle to axle. Fantasists are rarely mechanics. The dream of fending off howling mobs is really quite stupid. Serious people live out of range because pedestrians cannot self-sustain in the field.

If you don't already live in a rural white well armed area with a shitload of agriculture you're too stupid to deserve to live.

If you intend to run from the enemy, then use a boxer truck. Otherwise, learn to make foxholes, dugouts and bunkers.
