“Is it okay to pick my AR up by the carry handle?” - Actual question I’ve seen on multiple AR forums. What’s wrong with them, /k/?

Every time you do, a DI rapes a recruit.
I'm faping to you in your dreams!
Well?
Is it??
It makes mustard gas.
No it doesn't, it makes nerve gas.
No you fricking ding dong it makes 93 octane gas
My mower never cut so good!
isn't that good if you're in a warzone
No. If you're caught using chemical weapons Obama will intervene
The Military hates it because it's not a "ready carry" and you'd need to reposition your hand to shoot the gun. Boomers hate it because they once read in "Shooting Times" that the Carry Handle wasn't made to be used as a carry handle (it wasn't, it evolved from a charging handle guard from back when they were top charge instead of rear charge).
Neither of these reasons to "avoid carrying the rifle by the carry handle" address whether carrying the rifle by the carry handle hurts anything. Because it doesn't hurt anything, it's fine, carry it by the handle all you want unless you're using a carry handle mounted scope.
In fixed carry handles? No, nothing happens, but it's potentially not the optimal way to carry your rifle depending on what you're doing.
For detachable carry handles? Yes, because they are known to occasionally pop off from their rail when you carry them around with it, which is one of the many reasons that the detachable carry handle is an extremely moronic invention.
>(it wasn't, it evolved from a charging handle guard from back when they were top charge instead of rear charge).
It was a multipurpose part. Guard for the charging handle, a place to mount a scope, and a raised position to put the rear sight in to match how the stock is fully in-line, as well as being usable as a carry handle.
It's extremely slick in that aspect, but the main issue is that the charging handle inside the carry handle tends to get hot pretty fast with shooting.
Can you put a scope on the top chargers? I thought the scope mount nut would end up interfering with the stroke of the top charge hook.
Actually, I may be mistaken about that, the old AR10s with the top-chargers don't have the hole (at least this one doesn't), so perhaps that was devised at a later time after they changed to the T handle.
The Brownell's BRN-Proto uppers with the top mounted trigger-style charging handle did not come with a hole for mounting optics. In theory if it did have a hole for mounting an optic, you could remove material from the charging handle to clear the nut on the underside. But that would be dumb.
Not sure about the Brownell's AR-10 models, but I'd also guess they didn't for the same reasons.
>known to pop off
>actually references morons who don't torque down/witness mark their knobs
Why do you people do this? Stop using morons as an argument against shit.
A1/A2 you're probably fine. Detachable, no. That's your goddamn sight man. Why would you in either scenario though? There's way better ways to hold your ar.
I see high-tier long range competitive shooters carry their rifles by the scope. I can swing my AUG around by scope and there's no shift. Why are ar15s so finicky and weak?
they're not, people just believe fuddlore way too much
I carried a 20in HBAR around by the detachable carry handle for years and never had an issue, never lost zero.
I tralala with mine like I'm a kid with a lunchbox.
no problems yet. if it doesn't work, it deserves to be scrap, and I'll find something that works.
it's a carry handle.
It’s not even an ambiguously named handle.
Detachable carry handles like in your pic should not be carried by the handle. Their dimensions are much smaller than a normal carry handle. I've tried using the handle and can not fit my hand in it unless I squeeze it in and then it becomes a liability.
dude, you're not powerlifting. use the tips of your fingers.
I can't think of any other object that has a handle that is only designed to be carried with finger tips. If it's designed to only fit your fingertips, then it is not designed to be carried.
>non functioning carry handle
