Incorrect. You want the madness to be restrained and controlled, only unbound when needed and never overwhelming the rational faculties.

Madness, like chaos, spreads and cannot be contained.
It seeps out, it infects, it lowers standards, it permits a sense of superiority and immunity to the rules.

The only US Special Forces unit with maniacs is the Navy Seals. That's why they are a meme unit who attracts losers and are more worried about having some cool movie or book about themselves.

Real professionals are in the Delta Force and in UK they are in the SAS. The Australian SASR is other SF unit who only attracts narcissist losers.

Pre-GWOT, aside from being maritime specialists they were known as the direct action focused group. That's part of the naval heritage also since they aren't expected to stick around or engage with the locals or anything, just get in and stack bodies and leave. In Vietnam especially you can see this, ST1&2 just sort of wandered around the Mekong killing people. They Navy didn't really know what to do with them so they ended up working with CIA and SOG etc alot

Professional. Leave the maniacs to the rangers and other light infantry.
