The only PrepHole approved activity are ultralight thru-hike speed runs. That's the meta. Everything else is irrelevant just frick off to r*ddit kid. We are 95lb speed walkers here. Best you learn from me than one of these other sickos.

Ppackraft wherever you want. Absolutely absurd force multiplier for PrepHole activities.
Fishing? How about hiking to a lake with no roads in it and fishing from your boat?
Hiking? Stick a boat in your backpack, can cross rivers and lakes now.
Kayaking? Use a packraft instead, now you can cut through land to get around hairy spots or just redo your favorite mile a few times.

Packrafters and ULers have a lot of overlap.
It's hard to fit 20-50 liters/10-20 lb of boat and gear in your bag along with everything else otherwise.

        >ultralight
        >carry 20lbs of plastic with you

        No. Ultralighters go swimming.

All ULers aren't packrafters. The majority of packrafters embrace some degree of UL as space and weight for clothing, shelter, and food become the main limiting factors in the distance you can carry.
You're never going to find someone packrafting down South Fork with an ALICE pack.
I know I am just replying to a shallow troll, but it allows me to further the discussion with you being a valuable straw man and bump a thread about a rarely discussed PrepHole topic.

Listen buttercup, when you have a fricking boat you inherently stop worrying about weight. A boat ALWAYS means "frick yeah I can bring more".

in my experience inflatable canoes are not as hot shit as they are made out to be
friend got one so he could paddle with us in his own canoe but it did not go so well, his inflatable raft was so slow he could not keep up with us
in the end he ended up purchasing electric motor and a stand for it and the funny thing is in the beginning his whole point was getting a cheaper alternative to kayak/canoe

i tried it once and it was basically like paddling an air mattress

Meant to be made of thicker materials than inflatable kayaks, some are used for white water rafting so they have some credibility

sea eagle are a shit brand, no wonder. you have to spend 1000$+ to get something quality. gumotex from czech republic are pretty good, i can keep up with weekend warriors in their hardshell ocean kayaks in my big lumpy gumotex rush

What's wrong with sea eagle besides the fact they're not a special snowflake euro brand that costs twice as much for comparable offerings? Give me specifics.

          They aren't packrafts first off.

They have one offering but it weighs 22 lbs and it's also not a kayak, apples and grapefruits. Disregard my cost comment I was going off an antiquated exchange rate.

A walmart IK and a packraft aren't at all the same thing. Packrafts are inflated on site and carried in your backpack, are made of way more durable material and have features and shapes closer to play kayaks than IKs or canoes. Higher end ones will have whitewater decks, leg straps, and storage in the tubes.

My dad used to pack a fly fishing float up to cascade WA alpine lakes. That thing was a lot heavier than some floats.

But why not use your sleeping pad?

Leaving the house always involves some level of risk. Just bring a sat phone if you're in a place w/out service.

I just bought a Kokopelli XPD.
For float trips and booting around lakes its perfect, and both of these I'd be totally comfortable doing solo and far from people. I use it to do one man floats where I'll park the car upstream, paddle back close to my house, ditch the boat in the garage and then bike back to the car.
Running Class 3+ whitewater I'd want a buddy or to at least be near help. Moving water needs to be respected.

Its fine, if this guy can do it in the amazon, you can do it anywhere. Just buy a nice one and know its limitations.

Man are they really so far along with LotR sequels that Samwise Gamgee's offspring are wearing modern clothes?

Anyway I have solo packrafted out of backcountry hunting spots several times. The risk depends on the water you are navigating and your experience level with it. On calm water you'd have to be a full blown non-swimming imbecile to get hurt. But anything swifter than that, risk goes up.

not smart to go on water alone.
