Is anyone else fascinated with Soviet/Russian equipment?

I know it’s kind of shit, but you can’t deny that there are some sleek designs.

Anecdotal but there are several thousand Russians deployed in my country. T-72 may be bad in Ukraine but it’s easy to forget that it is still a decent-ish tank. Frick Ruzzies btw, I just like their vehicles is all

Russians haven't made a good tank since the 60s.

I like their planes. But then again I like big planes and cannot lie which is coincidentally the reason why the F-14 and F-15 are my favorite planes.

F-15 always seemed like the odd middle child between F-14 and F-16, and later F-18

The tanks do have a sleek look because they are quite small. Soviet designers cared a lot about height and wanted to minimize the tanks profile for those zerg rushes across fields of grass. The BMPs and some other vehicle also very very aggressively sloped frontal armour which contributes to that look.
No doubt the aesthetics of the Soviet military contributed a lot to their unwarranted military reputation.

I think i've just been desensitized since i've seen hundreds of photos and videos of them now. T-72 is like seeing a Toyota Corolla on the road.

I was going to make a long post about all the nuances in Russian design theory, but I want to summarize it instead, from my point of view at least.
    >The creation of the T-72 and T-64 marked the biggest capability gap ever held by the Soviets/Russians against the West.
    >As time goes on and the USSR collapses, Western tanks catch up and quickly become far greater than their Soviet counterparts.
    >Fast forward to today, Russian development has continued to be a slog compared to Western development, and now the West's standard armored vehicles are decades ahead of any Russian vehicle in appreciable numbers.
    >Russia has some vehicles that have some of the same capabilities, like 2nd and 3rd generation thermal optics, CITV, RWS, FCS, etc. But these are still on an antiquated chassis that pose many problems that are hard or near impossible to fix.
    >Russia's entire crux now is puffing its chest up and acting like their equipment is even remotely similar, when they just do not have the capability to design the same things the West can.

only thruthful post in a thread of pure shit
USSR x modern Russia is two completely different countries in terms of capabilites and everything
NCDgays and lazerpig will keep dilating, but M60s and Leos were definitely NOT on par with stabilised 125s with composite armor that could shrug off western heat

Sucks for Russia that T90A and T90M are their only decent tanks. T80bvm brings decent capabilities, but has shit tier 70s armor for the hull. T72b3 is cool, but ergonomically garbage since they left shit inside like vestigial organs because it was easier and cheaper than properly gutting and installing new shit. I'm also convinced they're out of T80U tanks for the most part

t80bvm is leagues better than the t90m based on reverse speed alone

just looks, I'd rate it slightly above B3, but still looks mid compared to something like T-80U
