it does exactly what its supposed to do
greater capacity, greater velocity, and when fired out of the P90 it can penetrate soft armor

It fills a very specific niche, but fills it well

I have the Ruger 5.7 pistol and it sucks

absolutely not. fast, hi-cap pistols and subguns with mag compatibility is just a good idea

I'm tempted to get a 5.7 pistol (probably would go with the PSA Rock because its $600 for a pistol + 10 mags!)
5.7 sounds like a great caliber for pistols because it's got low recoil but fairly damaging round because it's got very high chamber pressure. And the rounds are so small so you can fit a lot of them in a pistol mag.

I don't think it's as much a meme as it was 20 years ago. What it needs is more manufacturers going in on it so the price per round can come down. If the price were to match 9mm per round I'd adopt it in a heart beat. But alas, it isn't there yet.

It does what it was designed to do, ie give pistols and smgs the ability to penetrate body armor. Now why wasn't it adopted widely? One, the cold war ended, and two, the germans got pissy and threw a fit.

for civilians, yes. Unless you can get some AP police-only bullshit, the whole purpose of the 5.7 is null.

Vanguard Black Fang, which is freely available, pierces armor BETTER than the restricted shit.

Isn’t tok basically everything it wants to be but not a failure?
5.7 fails FBI penetration tests, Tok over does so you use JHP that shred the target. It also has enough mass to go through steel and tempered glass

Why don’t they just ditch it and make more tok guns?

Yeah, but it's the latest and greatest meme

One of these issues by the International Wound Ballistics Association talks about the 5.7 out of the P90. Basically the terminal ballistics are inferior to a 9mm HP, even if the 5.7 bullet were to tumble all over the place. The only thing it's good at is penetrating soft body armor. If that's something you need, then it's a great round. If not, then it's a cool, but more expensive and less effective round, that will still stop anyone if you hit them in the right place.

Also there should be questions based on these IWBA publications next to the captcha to allow anyone to post in caliber debates.

I'm glad they made the rifle but wish it was like 2 pounds lighter and a takedown

Maybe PSA will do it compatable with their Rock
