Is .300 WM with 180gr bullets adequate for small game like roe deer, fox and coyote?

Is .300 WM with 180gr bullets adequate for small game like roe deer, fox and coyote? My theory is the bullet is so big, heavy and going so fast it will zip right through. Or will it blow them apart?

Foxes and coyotes will explode. Roe deer will, too, depending on the impact, but that can happen with .308 too.
Also, where do you live where it has coyotes and roe deer?
Also also, why are you such a homosexual?

What if I use FMJ? My only rifle is a Bergara B14 HMR in .300 WM and I don‘t handload (yet) so I‘m limited to ‚full power‘ .300 WM factory ammo.

Just cut the end of your barrel really short so you reduce velocity and over penetration.

Just get a cheap .223. You’ll save money at the range too

Also, the idea with varminting is to have a really light, fast bullet that massively expands or fragments and dumps so much energy it doesn’t make an exit wound

I'd unironically have more respect if you used 338/408/416/50bmg just because at least those would be clearly hilarious and someone who can afford it. 300wm for the rare actual long range elk hunter or something who actually knows what they're doing? Fine. 300wm for a memegun memehunter? Simultaneously moronic AND poorgay cope.

Depends on the bullet design. Expanding bullet? Blows them apart. Something solid that doesn't expand much if any like an FMJ? Fine.

    >My theory is the bullet is so big, heavy and going so fast it will zip right through. Or will it blow them apart?
You would be incorrect and this question has a lot more to do with bullet construction than anything else. Tougher bullets that expand/fragment later are commonly used in factory 300wm because people want them for larger animals. If you hit an animal with any bullet that opens up quickly and is above that expansion threshold it's going to do a lot of damage.
On really skinny things like a coyote I've had bullets do noticeably less damage than what theyre capable of before passing out the other side but again thats because they werent designed to open up quickly. Something like a coyote leg is probably so thin that it would be hard to find a bullet that would open up fast enough to do any extra damage. Watch a youtube ballistic gel test of something like a 223 Vmax bullet (designed for varminting and to open up instantly) against Something like an eldx bullet (designed to hold togethera bit) in a 308 or larger and you'll have a good example of what the destruction might look like and be able to judge if the animal is thick enough to get the most out of a load.

Could use frangible honestly. Not like someone shooting something so big at small game gives a shit about the meat or fur anyway.

But at the same time who fricking cares if it passes right through? With something that big, high energy and flat shooting at hunting ranges there is zero excuse not to have a vital shot every single time unless OP is a raging homosexual who would be happy with shooting an animal in the leg and then just leaving or something.

There is a lot of debate about whether or not going big or small is most appropriate for them. I see the arguments both ways.
