Iran is currently building its 4th and most advanced aircraft carrier
The Shahid Bagheri
It will be 240 meters long and carry fixed wing craft
Iran to have 4 aircraft carriers by the end of the year
Iran is currently building its 4th and most advanced aircraft carrier
sir, those are cargo ships painted grey
No no they're carriers
they don't need carriers
How do you uhhhh land on one of those?
Freshly paved my driveway, it's now an Iranian aircraft carrier. Little brown men came in the night and hung a portrait of some kind of angry Indian Santa on my garage door. Advice?
Indian Santa gets me every time
Should spend more money looking after their people instead of meaningless trophies:
Is occupying the bombed out ruins in Yemen/Syria
or puppeting economically dysfunctional Lebanon suppose to make people who are freezing feel better?
Iran spent all that money making the useless axis of resistance
There's something vaguely amusing that these third world cope ships are in fact some of the largest warships in human history
That moron on the top left is 230 meters, 120,000 tons
It's so fucking big
Third worlders are easy to please. They see big number and that's all they care about, actual capabilities be damned. China has more ships despite being half the tonnage of the US Navy, doesn't matter because more ships. Iran make big boat, doesn't matter if it can carry 1-2 helicopters and plop a few truck-based SAMs on it, big ship make brown al-ghali happy! Missile shoot long or artillery have big shell, CEP measured in the realm of kilometers? Don't care, it big and long range.
Isn't each one of these basically equivalent to a nuclear bomb?
Build up a fleet of these relatively cheap long range ships, fill them with drones. And have one sitting outside the Panama Canal, Straits of Malacca, Suez, etc and if Iran is attacked you launch all those drones at all merchant ships within range.
Okay but that would just mean each one would get blown to kingdom come simultaneously as a direct prelude to a full scale assault.
Anon I'm not sure they can even launch enough of their Shahed drones to actually sink another cargo ship before local security forces took action and cleared the deck of anything that moved, and if action was taken against Iran those assets would be the first things to go.
>Patrolling CSG Rear Admirals' faces when Iran actually tries to do this stupid shit
w....was Rusty Shackleford or "Dale" the real glowmoron the whole time??
>Iran is currently building its 4th and most advanced aircraft carrier
Think of these as 4 Navy Crosses waiting to happen.
I hope that all 4 are on different sides during the civil war.
I'd wonder which one would win
>Palestinians putting a bunch of Katyushas on the deck of a tanker and claiming they have a Guided Missile Destroyer.
Have you seen Hamas's new main battle tank? i wonder how many could they fit on an iranian aircraft carrier
Though I kind of wonder if autonomous versions of those could have any utility for real armies as decoys. Could likely slap one together for <$100k, just stamped sheet metal and plastic and paint to make a somewhat convincing at a distance replica. Have them like 8:1 with real tanks. Against primitives with ATGMs might actually take some real fire even if they'd be worthless vs a real opponent (thermals would give it away).
These "Aircraft Carriers" are the equivalent of the Palestinians putting a bunch of Katyushas on the deck of a tanker and claiming they have a Guided Missile Destroyer.
before my inner eyes pictures starts to flash.
Ukrainias putting four HIMARS launcher and a patriot batterie on the deck of a cargo ship with cranes to get new ammo pods from the deeper decks.
Mad Max missile carrier to bomb all of Crimea.
they would get fucked up instantly in a fight with the US or any other western navy
that being said, they are working with what they have available and what they know. I'm kinda impressed they were able to coble them together and maybe they will have some usefulness against others in the region.
Like North Korea, Iran's autism would be strangely endearing if it wasn't driven by murderous rage
They actually manufacture new F-5s now, imagine
They aren’t just new F-5’s
They’re new F-5’s with butterfly tails. That’s pretty fucking neato
Do these new F-5's at least have updated engines?
No. The dirkas are not capable of upgrading the engine.
Wtf? I love Iran now.
How do they make electronics for these things?
i heard iran produces some of their own military electronics
What the fuck is the legality of copying another country's aircraft, and how would you prevent someone from doing it if they hate you and just don't give a shit?
You can sue them for copyright infringement.
Only if said country had any respect for foreign and international copyright laws. It's not like Northrop can just go over to Iran and slap a cease and desist on the factory door.
Otherwise, they can try to discourage other countries from buying them, but countries willing to buy from Iran wouldn't give a shit about that, either.
I'm sure Northrop could slap Iran with something that would make them think twice, though I guess they'd have to go through the US gubmint.
Could just give some samples to the garden gnomes in exchange for them delivering said samples to Iran's factories from 30k feet.
Raytheon and Northrup Grummann are considered terrorist entities in many Iranian jurisdictions.
Oh my god, can we glass their cities and turn the factories into museums please?
It's a borderline miracle that they can make engines at all.
No, it's a literal miracle if they're actually the ones making them. I can only assume they hire foreign contractors to do it for them. I mean, they can barely maintain their old fleet.
Anyway, from what limited information I can find, their copies are basically pieces of shit that can only serve as trainers.
>They actually manufacture new F-5s now
Oh lord, help me from becoming pro-Iran, that's just... so incredibly based.
what would be the legality of another country buying F-5s from Iran?
They have been watching to many Sprey videos on RT.
These look terrible. How can a nation not build something as good as the US built multiple of in the 40's?
Deserved mockery aside, what is the intended purpose for these ships? Any idea what mission they're designed to accomplish?
my guess is project power over regional neighbors...how many middle eastern countries have "aircraft carriers"?.
Algeria, Egypt and Turkey
Special credit to Egypt because it's got the two carriers that were supposed to replace the Kuznetsov after France rugpulled them last second over Crimea
I snapped a picture of one of those from my car when they visited my town a few years back.
they're not regular aircraft carriers, they are not designed to carry fighter jets and they are not designed to provide a landing place for fighter jets
their sole purpose is to serve as a launching platform for drones
and they're excellent at that
>they are not designed to carry fighter jets and they are not designed to provide a landing place for fighter jets
The last one they're working on might be, they're putting a tremendous amount of flight deck on it
The Makran is like the Puller class. Basically a staging platform for helicopter and fastboat operations.
what the other anons said, but my added theory is that they would like to park some S-300 anti-air systems on it.
obviously it would not last long in a war, but it’s better than nothing
add more lifeboats
does helicarriers have any point on the modern battlefield?
I'm assuming they're going to be drone and helicopter carriers.
is this just a glorified shahed136 carrier?
still kinda cool to see them nigrig a carrier into existence
hope they blow up some Saudi princes
I talk about turning cargo ship into aircraft carrier and commercial jet plane into long range bomber
Cool. Don't know how much value something so overt will have for a country with no force projection, but I hope things go well for them. Theres a reason the lean so hard on the quds force, because they cant afford to not fight asymmetrically. Never really got the impulsive seethe for Iran PrepHole has, they're like north korea; completely irrelevant outside their immediate sphere. Id rather we let them build nukes and gave them 150 billion in aid; and let them and Israel duke it out once and for all on even terms.
why dont they just buy ships from china or russia
because they would suck
Love me expeditionary warfare
Solid concept for smaller nations to get force projection in low intensity conflicts. USN has a couple concepts is to give the Marines/Army more expeditionary support
Even we know it sucks
>calling a white elephant a shahid
Nah, Iran is too poor. You need fuck you money for a proper blue water fleet with carriers.
