Build up a fleet of these relatively cheap long range ships, fill them with drones. And have one sitting outside the Panama Canal, Straits of Malacca, Suez, etc and if Iran is attacked you launch all those drones at all merchant ships within range.
Okay but that would just mean each one would get blown to kingdom come simultaneously as a direct prelude to a full scale assault.

Could likely slap one together for <$100k, just stamped sheet metal and plastic and paint to make a somewhat convincing at a distance replica. Have them like 8:1 with real tanks.
