>Iran now has nuclear weapons

Do they have any capability to deliver them? Assuming the bombs are pretty crude, it would take a reasonably large bomber or missile.

It's just an excuse to invade Iran like Iraq back in 2003. As you said besides a dirty bomb they don't really have a reliable way to create anything ICBM wise for an attack.

Not really. The hard part of making a nuke is getting the enriched uranium or plutonium. The nuke isn't going to be that heavy compared to a conventional explosive payload.

If they have the weapons grade uranium or plutonium any of their larger missiles would work.

the irony being that the United States probably will be the 2nd nation to ever have them used against them in war. (or 3rd if they act like Black folk and use them first which they very well might)

people still argue the ethics of Hiroshima but if the United States tried that shit today they'd instantly find themselves a pariah state just like Russia will if they use them in Ukraine.

We got away with it because of a power vacuum. Every nation should have nukes. North Korea learned from what happened to Quadaffi

Yeah every nation will use proper safe guards for their nuke arsenal and the odds of some random guy in the nuclear command chain going crazy has got to be exceedingly rare.

Plus most of Europe. That would make all of Africa and most of the Arabian peninsula starve (big fricking deal) and island countries like Japan, Australia, Indonesia, and New Zealand would have famine since they don't have the farmland to support very many people. Russia started to export significant amounts of HEU to China, officially for the new liquid metal nuclear reactor, but probably also for new warheads, since China doesn't have domestic capacity to enrich uranium / harvest plutonium currently.

Bean counters run the numbers and found out that nuclear weapons program essentially means dumping an entire countries defense budget and more into creating it, so they thought that no country would be stupid enough to hard spec into building nukes. They were of course wrong as dictatorships are in fact that stupid to hard spec into nukes while forgoing everything else

Or baiting the US in a protracted COIN intensive war. Even if the Taliban hadn't rolled up the national government so quickly, there was precious little to gain from our 20 years of involvement there.

            >baiting
Protracted insurgencies are not some super clever strategy that people go for by choice. It's a desperation move used by a force that has no other options.
Sure, the Taliban is in charge again but it cost them 20 years of fighting, tens of thousands of lives, and now they're squabbling with ISIS on their own territory and struggling to run the government they inherited because they have no economy. Obviously the US did not retain control of the country so this is ultimately victory for the Taliban, but if they had any choice in the matter prior to 2001 I'm sure they would've much rather had something to keep America from invading in the first place.

If you're referring to Iraq and WMD's, you know they had WMD's, right? That the US covered up because 1. There were so many they couldn't find they didn't want people coming to grab them and 2. They killed hundreds of US servicemen trying to clear up the ones they did find

We've known about Iraq having WMD's for nearly a decade now and the cover-up that followed it.

    WTF

    > "... Now the DOD operates in an extremely energy-constrained mode, we are incredibly energy limited and we are incredibly vulnerable to energy disruptions. We are very limited in what we can do or even think about because of that limit on energy, in particularly remote and islanded locations. If there were large amounts of power, it opens the aperture to all sorts of ideas, whether that is new radar systems or new directed energy systems, or anything else, it just gives planners a new way to think."

Israel cannot do anything, just like the USA couldn't do anything when China got nukes. We're already past the past of no return, Iran has over 100,000 long range missiles pointed at Israel and at any moment they can make Tel Aviv a radioactive glass parking lot. Even worse, some of the nuclear facilities are located in Shia's Holiest cities, which is the equivalent of bombing Makkah, so they're untouchable, unless Israel wants to piss off the 500 million fanatic Shias from Lebanon to Pakistan.
