I've shower though it as a greece scenario and blitzing to Istanbul is a priority to prevent the Turks from massing their larger ground army and pushing Greece back, the Greeks have superior Jets and an equal navy + control over the aegean islands which would spoil any amphibious landing which would inevitably occur. Then just wait it out until Turkey gets tired of their boys dying on beaches or sinking (assuming Greece wins these engagements) and capitulate, any attempt by Greece to invade Asia Minor would end as well as it did in 1922.
That scenario hinges on Greece breaking through the Turkish front lines immediatly and taking istanbul, a massive city immediatly which is iffy at best. Anouther scenario is Greece not advancing at all and defending from the mountainous terrain around thrace, which I don't belive they can win judging from Azerbaijans performance against Armenia, Turkey would likely lock down the main greek force in thrace and take the Aegean islands slowly and carefully with their superior numbers to the Greeks skeleton force until Greek capitulates.
Not an expert or anything but Turkey just by sheer numbers has an advantage so unless Daddy America comes in it looks to be a minor greek defeat usually.

Turkey has the second largest stockpile of Atgms and Manpads in NATO. In addition to that, Istanbul is a city of 15 million and it can devour ten thousands of armored vehicles. Can Greece afford such loses? Absolutely not. Can US do it? Not without major chimpouts and political failure at home.

yeah. usa is only country which can defeat and occupy turkey to some extent but it will be vietnam-tier bloodbath. about greece it just funny how they see turkey near-peer.

Greece tried that in 1919–1923. Ataturk b***h slapped them and made them run to the ocean in retreat.

      >the Greeks have superior Jets and an equal navy + control over the aegean islands which would spoil any amphibious landing which would inevitably occur.
Greeks having better jets doesn't mean much. Turkish air defense systems are growing by the day, and so are the drones.

The Russia–Ukraine War already shows how air defenses severely limits each side using planes in offensive attacks. You only have so many pilots and it takes years of training. Drones OTOH are easily replaceable but only for those who have the technology and manufacturing to make them.

      just embargo the nation
Turkey is very dependent on global trade and global energy markets, it was relatively self sustaining ala jucheboys in korea but it liberalized heavily in last 40 years. But even then it had a massive energy deficit. Just a blockade/embargo would cripple Turkey massively. There is literally no reason to invade unlike you are in the group of giv bak constantinopol chuds

      >just embargo the nation
An embargo of Turkey would fail worse than the Western embargo on Iran and the Saudi-Emirati-Bahraini blockade on Qatar.

      >But even then it had a massive energy deficit.
Energy which comes from neighboring states, not halfway across the world. This isn't WW2-era Japan you're talking about, genius.

      >Turkey is very dependent on global trade and global energy markets, it was relatively self sustaining ala jucheboys in korea but it liberalized heavily in last 40 years.
Turkey is the 7th largest steel producer, and has discovered large mineral deposits which anybody in EV, electric battery and advanced technology wants. It's literally impossible for all countries to magically announce and enforce an embargo, and why would they??. If X doesn't trade with Turkey, Y will. There are several countries with gas and oil for sale, but minerals are even more precious, even more so for the coming centuries.

Yeah, I wouldn’t say Greece has a superior air force or an equal navy. Air force is about even now while navy is slightly behind. Also Greece has absolutely zero chance of defending the islands in a confrontation, any midway decent general would pull forces back to defend the mainland especially since most of those islands are actually closer to the Turkish mainland than the Greek one so logistics favour Turkey.

To be honest I would love to see Greece try to attack Turkey with no foreign support to either side, hell throw in Armenia just to spice it up.

I watched "Lawrence or Arabia" in school and the teacher gave some background info on it,

Turks are madmen, like the Scots or Chechens.
        Best leave them be.

I recall reading somewhere that Hitler was afraid of dealing with turks because he thought they'd collectively fight to the death.

Worse, because Turkey has never produced a single thing of value. At least Russians made some pretty cool art back in the day.

Furthermore, it's not just about what others want to buy from Turkey, but what Turkey wants to buy from others. If Turkey wants to make a large order of food or commodities or consumer goods, somebody's going to sell it.
In the late 1990s, the US wouldn't sell Turkey missiles, but China did. Germany didn't want to sell howitzers, while South Korea was pleading Turkey to buy its howitzers.

    Q. Because the US holds nukes in Turkey, does that mean if someone invades Turkey, the US can nuke in retaliation?

      Anonymous

in theory, yes if the attacker isn't in NATO
but, it's unlikely that the US would default to nukes if conventional means are available

I don't think it's easy or maybe even not possible. Turkey mountainous as frick, and one of the strongest army in the region. Besides that they are really experienced with face to face combat due constant wars around of their borders. And don't forget the guerilla war they are experiencing with the PKK for nearly 40 years.

Probably they would defend pretty good to the first attacks but after that they will become a guerilla power which will supported by some other powers.

due to their history, they will never give up. It will become the second afghanistan.
