India's role in combatting China and Islamic terrorism should not be underestimated. Thus why not India should be granted membership in the F-35 program? The Indian aerospace forces would be unstoppable in South Asia, and the Indian aerospace industry could contribute to improve the F-35 above its current capabilities. This seems like a no-brainer for the West

This actually makes me curious, how did India wind up becoming Zigger Central anyway?

I get that they were not happy with being a colonial possession of the British, but Great Britain enjoys a mostly amicable relationship with its former colonies, even ones that fought wars to be free of its rule like the United States.

What went wrong with India? Why did it wind up basically turning into a Soviet ally and not an American one?

The soviets were really good at portraying themselves as anti-colonial freedom fighters. Indians also have a massive complex about how great their empire was and still are yet to get over being buck broken by 30 toothless bongs

      >This actually makes me curious, how did India wind up becoming Zigger Central anyway?
      >What went wrong with India? Why did it wind up basically turning into a Soviet ally
In short Western favoritism towards Pakistan at the time along with the USA trying to butter up the CCP into forming an alliance against the Soviets. Plus India's absolute failure and incompetence to create a national arms industry or personal computer industry capable of competing with China and Japan hence why their elite forces import a mix of Tavors and AK12's while the low lever grunts get stuck with the shitty INAS rifles that are falling appart, things ain't so bad nowadays though, they manufacture missiles that are apparently good enough for the Vietnamese. Pakistan despite all it's flaws and arguably being a failed state since day one at the very least can manufacture rifles that aren't complete ass.

Indian small arms procurement is a lot like that of Saudi Arabia's, they don't choose firearms for common calibers and parts or any of that, no they choose their weird mix of small arms based on whatever they think looks cool at the time, and now you understand why they're so reliant on Russian hardware, don't get me wrong given Russia doesn't trust India with their most advanced aircraft either it's no surprised they tried to get F-35's instead.

Honestly someone really should develop a cheap modern alternative to India's old stock pile of MIG's and barely functional Tejas that is good enough but not so good your worried about them nose diving into the earth as a result of user error, it basically needs to be the Hi-point of fighter jets.
Who ever figures that out will be swimming in military contracts.

Also build it like a shitty glued together iPhone so they don't try reverse engineering it, they'll become the Saturday night special of military aviation aircraft. Maybe Sweden could pull that off?

They wouldn't buy it because it doesn't look cool. There's nothing stopping India from buying Gripens or FA-50s but those neither Sweden nor South Korea are cool enough. It needs to be native or latest tech from a major power like the US, France or Russia.

It would be if India could stop sucking off Russia at every opportunity.

      >Soviet ally and not an American one
US foreign policy fricked up. The US decided to back Pakistan over India which created a lot of issues. Then during the 1962 Sino-Indian War the US was only giving India moral support while the US ambassador kept pressuring India to not use air assets in order to avoid escalation. This was entirely understandable since the US was in the middle of the Cuban Missile Crisis. India interpreted this as a betrayal by the US and went looking for new friends. The USSR was more than happy to jump since it meant they'd gain partner to annoy both China and the US via Pakistan. After India steamrolled Pakistan in 1971 it became clear that the US backed the wrong horse but at that point India was fully on Soviet coo laid which morphed into Russian cool aid after 1991.

The entire diplomatic situation down there is a dumpster fire. It only got worse after 2022.
India is hostile to Pakistan and China.
The US is friendly towards India.
The US is hostile to China but is allied to Pakistan.
Pakistan is hostile to India and is allied with both China and the US.
India is allied with Russia because Russia used to be hostile to China.
But since 2022 Russia is turning into China's b***h.
So India is allied with Russia who is allied with India's enemy China against the US who also happen to be allied with Pakistan who themselves are also allied with China while India is hostile towards Pakistan.

A lot of posters already kinda say the answer here. Essentially India post-independency went really hard on the whole 'non-allign movement' thing. The indian ruling elite at the time wanted to position themselves as independent from both the US and the soviets. Inherently though, Nehru (first prime minister of India) was personally more sympathetic to socialism (he was explicitly not a Marxist though). Right at that point in time America was full-on red scare so the state department was smelling commies miles away. And then there was the eternal Indian enemy Pakistan, which was geographically speaking perfectly located to strike the USSR from its airfields and had a cool military junta. So the US chose Pakistan as its primary ally in south asia and by all means intended to see them as the second pillar (next to Turkey) in the soft underbelly of the Soviets (I believe this was literally Dulles' vision on Pakistan).

So even though India was never officially Allied with the USSR, realpolitik made them always closer to the USSR. And in their eyes they were always betting the right horse as the Soviets were properly backing them in the wars versus Pakistan.

India has always been a centralized shithole in favor of heavy handed top down government.
That's why they get along with places like Russia that value centralization and in turn corruption.

  6. 3 weeks ago

Nothing difficult to understand. India is a peasant shithole which, like all other peasant shitholes, is characterized by its barely sovereign corrupt regime ruling system. Russia (and the USSR before it) is good at handling corrupt peasant shitholes — you do corruption. Elites, elite families, etc, get paid off and in exchange you get closer links. They’ll take Western money, too, of course, but Western money is tied with all sorts of rules and expectations. What a 3rd-world peasant corrupt shithole wants is something more direct, and that’s something Russians offer.

The awful dilemma of the peasant shithole is that, on the wine hand, they want to do corruption unimpeded — but on the other hand, they NEED Western institutions and governance to take true advantage of that corruption. If you couldn’t exchange a worthless currency for Dollars or equivalent than you can’t have mega yachts, private jets, palaces, and all the luxuries they want out of their careers. So they’re stuck having to participate in the Western world’s rules while simultaneously working constantly to subvert it through corruption. It’s an interesting dichotomy, I wonder if foreign policy academics ever address it.

It's because all other supposed goals of the US fall before one thing: White Supremacism.
The only thing which 90%+ of white people will accept is white supremacism. Browns are not perceived to have inalienable rights, the best they have is the benevolence of their white masters, and the privileges granted can most certainly can be alienated on a whim and the follow-up perceived "belligerence" when the warning that the whim is in play goes unheeded by the brownoids. It's, "Do exactly what I say or Mr. Nice Guy goes away."
Whites can be generous to nonwhite nations who will get on board with the need for nonwhites to be bombed -- but only if they're easily bombable themselves.
India is too big to be easily bombed into submission. If Indians ever exhibit an indomitable spirit, there are just too many of you to casually genocide.
Indians being on board with murdering Chinese and Muslims isn't good enough when you're brown Hindus. You need to be white Christians for us to feel safe enough to give a fleet of F-35s to. Against browns we need the superiority of the F-35 to bomb you if you ever get uppity.

With F-35s India WOULD be unstoppable in S Asia, and that's the problem: you'd be unstoppable by the US. That the US would still be 100% secure at home isn't good enough. The US demands to be the world's puppet master. The US needs to be able to say, "We declare as ANGELIC WHITES that Kashmir belongs to Pakistan! Stop your illegal occupation of Kashmir immediately or we'll bomb you!" If we've sold India thousands of F-35s in order for you to take on China, we now can't take you on. We've gone backwards in the goal of white domination.

      Anonymous

Sadly, the US must pretend that brown people are equal to whites on a civilizational level. Even though it’s just pretending and there’s no white in a position of power who considers browns as anything more than coolies / slaves / peasants, that’s not sentiment they are allowed to display publicly. So, when business wants to make use of coolie labor the government has to go along with issue in visas, forming diplomatic ties and so on. The only thing white people think of browns is disgust, aversion and a desire for them to go away. No white person considers a brown person to be any kind of competitor or threat, simply a pest to be controlled or shoved off someplace else.

You seem to be mistaking having a strategic advantage against a fairweather ally as hating brown people. Don't get me wrong, we do despise you disgusting poos, but that's because you're morons and eat cow dung and shit in the street. The US has close non-white allies like Japan and South Korea.
You are correct that we would never give India our best tech because they would almost certainly use it against us and our interests as soon as they thought they could get away with it.

        >The US has close non-white allies like Japan and South Korea.
Note how neither of those has a population size that's a threat. Japan was literally at war with us just 70 years ago, but they're such a pipsqueak that we'd annihilate them in 5 minutes if they got uppity.

Meanwhile we're practically at war with China who was our ally in that same war, simply because China disagreed with us trying to make a puppet out of all of Korea and they have a nation large enough to be a problem to bomb.
We cannot accept having nonwhites who won't do as we say. Meanwhile we don't accept that we have to do what anyone else says.

The US is the most fair weather ally on the planet. The only acts of "sovereignty" allowed is 100% agreement with the US, while the US is allowed 0% agreement with anyone else.

It's interesting that the US views a nation that's only 5% as bad as it as being purely self-centered evil.

Some impoverished third world shithole begs the US for investments.
