Dude it's a big deal no matter what it is. It's a nuclear state that either has a foreign owned militia hitting them in their own territory, or it's an actual militia aided by foreign entities killing in their own territory. I'm leaning towards the latter due to the overall death toll in Russia, and the fact this conflict is beocming eerily like Yugoslavia where it's a fight between ethnic identity vs political ideology.

I hope none of you morons think this actually represents a “real” uprising or partisan movement or something moronic like that. Surely you’re not so moronic as to be fooled by something the ukies aren’t even trying to make look legitimate - since it’s more useful to them to use it as a propaganda tool to demonstrate the illegitimacy of certain Russian claims from 2014. Surely you’re not so moronic. Surely.
If they can actually hold any ground, period, they will make an excellent bargaining chip at the negotiations table. Russia will have a hard time holding onto donbabwe and luganda if beloghana is now “ukranian” by similar means

I think they are unironically hoping to hold similarly fraudulent referendums in beloghana for the above reasons

It's not because of security services being compromised. It's because our entire economy is russian money. They simply own everything. Being rightful owners, they do as they please. So it won't be some scary military operation, they'll simply sign some "Economy integration treaty" with Lukashenko.

but it does, anon. Sure these guys are equipped and fed intel by Ukraine but they've been prominently fighting the Russians alongside Azov for nearly 10 years. They're a well known resistance movement that even the Kremlin acknowledges and tries to suppress internally. If you mean it's not gonna cascade into civilian uprisings (yet) then yes, but that's different. These are Russians who grew up in Russia, came to resent Putin, fought for Ukraine and now cross the border back into Russia

Overall I think a revanchist path would be unwise to take but the Kuban area would be strategically valuable as it would cuck Russia out of the Black Sea entirely and lead to a land corridor with Georgia. The problem is that you'd also add the cities of Rostov and Krasnodar into your country (couple million hostile Russians, basically) and it might be better if Russia was allowed to keep wasting money on their meme fleet instead.

So, what's the purpose of this operation? Is this to divert Russian attention so Ukraine can focus more on getting its southern territories back? I mean, Russia has shown how shitty it is at logistics and planning, a little monkey wrench like this seems like it would be an effective diversion. And Putin will be bombing his own people if he takes a heavy-handed approach.

I think the main purpose is to divert attention and manpower/vehicles away from the front lines inside Ukraine. The Russians probably know this, but if they don't divert resources knowing it's just a diversion, the separatists will realize the borders are still wide open and continue the raids. So really Russia has to respond and commit resources. That's just what I think, I have no military background.

definitely some kind of shaping operation. 100 guys can pop into russia and frick some shit up. Russia would need 1000s to plug up all the holes. And it's honestly a nothingburger, but we all know Russia is about muh optics, and there's a genuine danger of the Russian government looking moronic if it doesn't try to stop this. So, it should move a lot of manpower out of important places to literal where towns

So far Russian strategy is to pretend the incursion isn't happening. They can probably keep that up so long as it's restricted to small border villages.

Meanwhile, Russia is past the 100th wave of mobilization and losses are so heavy owing to the 5-10:1 kill ratio favouring Ukraine that they are now just continously mobilising instead of being able to do so in waves.

In HOI IV speak: Ukraine is still on Limited Conscription. Russia is already on Service By Requirement.

      >muh 100k hohols in Bakhmut
So at proven casualty rates, this menas the Russians lost 500k-1 million men at Bakhmut. Wow.

      50% of the men
Actual number of confirmed ukrainian/free russian losses in the Belgorod raid: 0

      all vehicles
Actual confirmed vehicle losses: 2 Humvees left behind after stripping out anything of value and replacing them with capturing russian AFVs.

Russia is not on their hundreth wave of conscription, Russia's conscription is broadly limited to sandBlack folk, central asians and the dregs of society. Ukraine does not have a 10:1 kill ratio. I don't know why you morons can't point out the obviously true embarrassing Russian losses instead of doing whatever the frick this is

This is OFFICIAL numbers, so you can't even trust that. That means the Ukrainian 100-200K absolutely puts them at least at a 5:1 and this is even relected in their armored combat. Add in Russian lies and the ratio's probably safetly around 8:1 which is perfectly in line with their shity tier performance in every god damned war they're in.

I presume UK command deemed both river crossing and Melitopol push too costly.
The raid makes a lot of sense, Russians can't afford not to respond to it in some capacity.

I'm willing to bet that it's a trial run for Belarus. Not only does Ukraine have a decent amount of Belarusian units under its command, there is a chance that the Belarusian military and population won't respond or will outright aid any raiders. Further complicating it for Russia is the Belarusian government-in-exile.

Zero chance Russia allows Belarus to just nope out if the war. Putin could have potato peeler overthrown and replaced any time the security services are so compromised by and dependant on Russia. Whether Russia holds onto territory in Ukraine or is forced entirely out Belarus is going to be annexed to Russia defacto or dejur within a few years at most. Only problem with doing it right now is that there's a raised prospect of unrest just because people don't want to be drafted into the war, but once that threat is gone it'll happen. Putin may use annexation of Belarus as consolation for loss of Ukraine and Crimea.

A little part of me says "frick it", and has USA invade Russia. Bring all the patriots with them with full SEAD. Shoot down anything and storm the Kremlin. No way Ukraine invades Belarus while their own territory is still in need of liberation. I did think the same thing regarding the trial run though. It's possible that seeing how slow Russia is to respond to this, Ukies will let a couple Belarusian groups off the leash either post-war or during peace negotiations, and if everything goes well they'll plug the gaps with their own troops and shitpost about how they're local volunteers that bought their tanks from farmers.

Here's the thing. Putin nuking his own country is more of a "grey zone".
