$850 will get you a nice shotgun which will do you well but honestly for rabbit hunting a .22 will be more enjoyable.

Look for soviet import double shotguns (especially pre-1985), like the ones sold under Remington Spartan brand. Great value for low price. My dad used to hunt with IZh-58, now I own it. A brilliant Anson-Deely action.

Beagles do very well hunting rabbits. Consider one of those.

This AND spend money to go shoot sporting clays.

Fire the clays off low against the ground or get them rolling if you can. Makes a great analogue to how a rabbit bounces around.

Just finished my clays for today. Feeling great. Fresh air, deafening gunfire, warm sun, melting snow.
Brought out my dad for a couple of shots. Guess I'm a better shot than him

some good clothes to keep you warm. I've found that the best duck hunting is during the shittiest weather. also birds are the only animal where good camouflage actually matters since their eyesight is better than ours.

And yet rabbits enjoy sunny meadows and other comfortable settings. Curious why anyone would prefer to hunt a duck.

you jest, but personally I've kinda just given up on rabbits after too many nasty ones. I've grown tired of picking them up and having the ticks and fleas migrate to me after only carrying it for 2 minutes. plus I've found too many darkened livers when cleaning them.
pic related. you can see the ears are just infested with ticks

Depends on a lot of factors but a decent used SxS/OU in 12/70 is usually the way to go. You could go magnum, but if you are new to the sport, I wouldn’t bother. Get 1/3 - 3/4 or 1/2 - 7/8 choke depending on your expected range. The stock fitting you is the most important part, you want to try a lot of guns. Bring a friend who is familiar with shotguns, he will be really helpful when choosing the gun.
For the rest, buy a nice vest or cartridge bag, depending on your taste.
Remember that when you need to go steel for legal reasons, you want steel shit rated barrels and heavier loads, also add one size for steel shot.
Good hunting, waterfowl is great fun.

      >Steel shot
Man oh man, frick steel shot and frick those who think this was a good idea. 80% of perfectly usable and well made guns has momentarily lost its practical value, because of lead chokes being unfit for steel shot
And gun lobby only benefits from people buying more guns, no wonder gun lobby haven't put up any fight against lead shot bans.

Well some combinations are gtg but for Anons new to this I would always advise to go for steel shot rated.

Look up how much fodder a horse needs per day and find a different hobby.
