I'm looking for a 17hmr bolt action rifle for small game/cheaper target practice. out of these two rifles which one would you choose? Tikka T1X 16 inch barrel or a Ruger American 18 inch barrel that is threaded.

Bolt-actions are so fricking boring.
They are ideal for very long range shooting and for marskmen as well
A bolt action M-107 .50 cal can take down helicopters, some bolt actions are like cannons
Also gonna run you like $13k lmao
The new ones are semi-auto too
So? Still boring.
If you think shooting an anti-material rifle is boring then I don't know what to tell ya
take it or leave it
It is boring.
You dont need that, get a glock + AR, get some good optics and aftermarket parts and train. Any other gun is an unnecessary waste of time and space
will you Black folk please shut the frick up. no one cares that the only reason you have guns is for self defense. I already have plenty of guns for that.
>small game/cheaper target practice
Why not 22LR?
because 17 hmr is better.
How is it better? It still has the defects of rimfire, no? The chance of having a misfire or cycling problem is just as high. Plus it's way more expensive. What am I missing?
ballistics
Its 2 different calibers for doing 2 different things. 22lr is better for small game hunting. 17hmr is better for farther shots, and is faster, much much flatter shooting. Damages more meat on small game unless its a body shot. Hell ive killed deer with my 17, dont recommend it though.
Any man worth his salt will have both.
*unless its a head shot
Are there 17hmr in semi auto? What are some of the most reliable bolt actions? Savage is pretty shit quality, at least in 22lr. Seen lots of extractor problems. Looking for something that cycles reliably.
Tikka
Out of those two I'd take the tikka. Also check out the cz 457 rifles. They have a bunch of different configurations.
>CZoyboys in full shill mode
I don't need shitty potmetal
Lol theyre rimfire rifles are not pot metal like theyre pistols. The other anons are right, youre a fricking moron and i will not waste one more second of my life or a modicum of my /k/nowledge on you and youre worthless thread
All fields gentleman
I have a friend that owns one in 17HMR and my dad owns one in 22LR. While I've only seen my friends one out in the field a couple of times my dad's CZ is a great gun, he's owned it for about 4-5 years and hasn't had a single problem with it. CZ isn't my first choice either but the 457 just really shines in its role at the price it's at, you shouldn't be dropping stupid amounts of money on a bunny buster, people used to get hundreds of rabbits with old single shots, I don't see what's wrong with a CZ457. Also don't ask for recommendations and turn your nose up at everything
22LR is just the master of rimfire, it's cheap and fun, other rimfires (17hmr) are just too expensive and miss the point IMO.
I'd probably get a 22LR because it's cheaper but if you are hard set on a 17HMR then get a CZ457 or a Savage 93R17. Just be mindful about the distance you're shooting at, a close shot with a 17HMR might ruin the game you're shooting.
Get an Anschutz
I cant speak on their rimfires, but Tikka centerfires are incredible.
But for the same money id seriously consider a 457 American. I have one in 17hmr and it will shoot a a half dime sized 5 shot group at 100yards.
I also have a 457 American in 22lr and a 457 Varmint in 22lr and they both shoot insanely good as well. Very well built rifles
>17 hmr
>cheap
Go be moronic somewhere else
way cheaper than 223 or 308 Black person.
But not cheaper than .22, gaygoid
The cheapest 17hmr is $0.25/round
5.56 is $0.28/round
Consider suicide moron
>small game/cheaper target practice
So you mean you're looking for a .22LR rifle.
>want something cheap
>chooses something almost the same price as 5.56
>17hmr is also over 8x the price of .22lr
What is the tactical application if being a fricking idiot?
ITT we have
>OP who's a general purpose moronation device
>a ton of people who can't fathom ever buying something that's not a .22
>some hypebeast queer who needs a constant stream of new ARs and TikTok videos to keep his ADHD brain from falling asleep
>an actual glue eater that thinks the M107 is a bolt action rifle and gets all his gun info from video games
I can fathom buing tons of shit over a .22
But not another rimfire, that can't do anything .22 can't, that costs 9x what .22 does.
I shot a friends ruger in 17hmr, really enjoyed it, super accurate and good trigger. It’s a good rifle and caliber combo from my experience
17 HMR is a good pest control cartridge.
Can drop a coyote within 200 yards.
Good for dispatching racoons more humanely than a 22lr.
I'd feel sorry for any squirrel or cottontail shot with it though. Jackrabbits should be big enough though.
Can still use 22 suppressors.
I own both a 17 HMR and a 17 HMR Mach 2 and they both hold up at 100 yards with a cross wind.
Imagine wanting a gun for small game and cheap shooting, and getting a rimfire that's shit, and costs the same as brass case 5.56
not sure if they come in 17 hmr but I'm down between a winchester xpr or a mauser m18 for my cheapo bolt action, I'd go for a tikka but they are severely overpriced here
