      >it's too soon
It's not if their supplies are cratered cause they were undersupplying their position, or morale was shit, or they genuinely aren't making any headway on a breakout, or the bridges are gone and escape is deemed impossible.

Relief isn't coming from Belgorod. The second the situation goes from "it would suck to get out" to "we can't get out", surrender is the only option. Even if they could tie Ukraine up for weeks or months on end, it wouldn't be fricking worth it. They aren't tying up a comparable Ukrainian military force, they'd pay in shittons of blood, and they don't have the fricking supplies or morale to even fricking try.

They are very likely in a rout or start shooting anyone deserters/routing/surrendering and hope they don't shoot back situation.

The Russians are so demoralized it's not out of the question that they simply booked it out of there as fast as they could drive and didn't even attempt to hold their positions.

Why does any of this matter? Russia has shown themselves to be, at the very least, competent in shifting their forces around to make artillery mincemeat out of the new UA brigades needing to defend captured territory.
brigades that are most likely understaffed, hastily put into place, with terrible supply lines, against a mobile Russia that can shell them from literally anywhere they want along the front, in flat open terrain, with almost zero of their own artillery.

Face it, you and everyone else are huffing copium because this is UA's only thing resembling a 'victory' in literal months, but russia can easily shift forces to absolutely eviscerate the advance just like they did months ago

If Russia's got all this magic artillery where the frick is it?

There isn't any Russian artillery in the area that's why Ukraine's able to take so much land.

And in order to get artillery they're going to have to take it from somewhere else, which means Ukraine can just do the exact same thing to that place.

This attitude is precisely why thousands and thousands of your men have been sent to their deaths for nothing. Russia has lost.

      Anonymous

Hey, remember when Russia had to commit to a 5:1 troop advantage to plow through Sievierodonetsk and Lysychansk, and lost thousands of fighters to Ukraine's hundreds all for a bridgehead they haven't even been able to capitalize on? But Ukraine was able to retreat so that's all they got?

Izyum is one of their only two other major bridgeheads and at one point 20% of their entire fricking force was there. Not sure how many Russians are getting captured or killed here, but A LOT would be a safe bet. This was the main northern flank. And along with it falling, Ukraine's likely either getting a bridgehead of their own or at the least cutting all supplies from Belgorod for the entire northern theater of the war up at Kupyansk.

And anyone not fricked in Izyum is currently fricked in Kherson.

The issue is Russia has like some 200K troops in Ukraine. Out of those the better part is deployed in the Donbass trying to take Bakhmut. This leaves them not nearly enough men to man the remaining fronts. Since Ukraine kept announcing Kherson for the past six months, they sent all available reserves down there leaving other front undermanned. They're so understaffed the first (and only) line of defence in Kharkiv was manned by riot police and LNR conscripts.

And yes, they recommend your own gear except guns(because you can't travel with guns legally)
Foreigners usually get assigned to foreigner-only units for comms in English, but still under formal ukr command structure and generally treated as a normie ukr soldier, the pay is like $600/month+combat bonuses I think

the WW1 battle of Tannenberg wasn't even at Tannenberg tbqh

German propaganda only named it that as a flourish to pretend the crushing defeat of Russians was vengeance against the crushing defeat they suffered at the hands of Poles and Lithuanians in 1410

how you avenge yourself against Russians for something the Poles and Lithuanians did is anyone's guess

Lithuanian forces had a good number of Ruthenians (Belarusians and Russians) among them since Lithuania controlled a huge chunk of eastern Europe at that time.

The confirmation is finally here: at least one hundred and two thousand broad-nosed, wide-lipped, flyover state-dwelling, GED-acquiring, Ford Ranger-leasing, clenbuterol-eating NATO mulattoes are staging right at the border of Russia, each equipped with a wicked shiny Mulatto-Portable Anus Destruction System or MUPADS for short.

Residents of SPb may have noticed, on days when the wind blows from the East, a distinct loosening of their bussies and a thin layer of grey dust coating their windows, clothes and streets. That's not sand from the Sahara, as the Simonyans and Skabayevas will tell you: it's the dry ashy skin of the NATO mulattoes invading Russia on the wind, and I'm afraid it's already inside you. Oh yes: the NATO mulattoes are so potent that not only does mere knowledge of their nearby presence provoke literal bowel-emptying psychic terror, they act as a chemical/biological weapon if placed upwind of a major settlement.
Nightmares of sweaty planation buck breaking with nothing but spit and snot for lube, the raw horor of the lioness stealing your infant son M'kwon'kgume from your hands on the veldt and feasting on his brains, the distinct scent of the LURP tunnels in I Corps and the hate those pussy-ass crackers poured on you when you demobbed, the microaggressions on Twitter - the entire NATO mulatto experience is inside you now and it will never leave.

Arsefricked in the brain, I love the West.

I love the inforwar reference because is true, infowars and propaganda are (well... were) the only weapons on Russia's arsenal that exceeded expectations.

They had total victory at reach, had it at their fingertips, NATO on a verge of dissolution, a lot of friendly politicians in the US congress and senate, at least one european goverment in their pocket with a probability of more in the future, insolationism running rampart, Brexit... all wasted in less than a year, 20 years or more of excellent work down the drain for absolutely nothing to show.

Wait a bit more, let Zelensky's popularity drizzle and get kicked out, help to put another pro russia puppet in Kiev, and with that, with the right people in the white house and european comission just waltz in and done, everybody will be too paralized to do anything...

The FSB boss looked really pissed during the first day of war, when Putin paraded all the goverment officials on TV, now we understand why....

Remember aleksander dugin assassination attempt? well he wrote a playbook of how russia can become a superpower again and its well beloved by kremlin and is even teached at in their military academies. • 2 years ago

And it also wouldn't win them the war, since dropping nukes on a European nation makes you a pariah state even North Korea would be hesitant to deal with. Forget the west supplying Ukraine, they'll make Ukraine the new emperors of the Russian wasteland when they're through.

I would recommend everybody not to get too high on hopium regarding Ukraine. Russia also made 'rapid gains' and then immediately got kicked the frick back. Even if Ukraine pushes Russia back to Feb 21st borders (which seems like a stretch) it still has so much work to kick the Russians out of the 2014 areas.

I hope they do. But we're not giving Ukraine enough support. UK is training troops but that should be doubled at least. USA is giving aid, but it needs to be doubled. Those pilots need to be increased in rate and number and the aircraft needed to be handed over. Also no A-10's unless you know Russia can't shoot them down. Frick that.

This. Izyum was always going to be a shit place to defend. Ukraine knew it. Russia didn't take steps to defend it or force Ukraine to spread their forces. That said, even if we ignore the context of the war being a shitshow for Russia, I don't think Russia ever even committed enough troops to the Izyum/Lyman corridor to even be in a position to capitalize on the position in the first place. They were holding it so they could maybe use it later, which was, as it turns out, a dumb thing to do. Everything at Izyum should have been thrown at fricking Kharkiv ages ago. Slovyasnk and Kramatorsk are fricking pipe dreams if they can't even fricking take Kharkiv a few miles from their fricking border.
