If you could have any fictional man-portable firearm, what would you get?

If you could have any fictional man-portable firearm, what would you get?

For me, it's probably my A7 laser rifle from CDDA.

>carbine length and weight
>range of a .308 rifle
>lights targets on fire
>runs on quick-recharge battery packs

If cruising a dead world in a nuclear/solar powered laser camper van while occasionally raiding shady zombie-infested science labs with NOD's and a katana sounds like a good time to you, then I can highly recommend learning the UI.

I love van Vogt, but I'm not sure modern readers would. However, The Weapon Shops of Isher is about as pro-2A as a science fiction book can get
        >The right to buy weapons is the right to be free
Van Vogt was definitely an interesting character too. He was friends with Hubbard and did Dianetics but balked at Scientology. He was also a follower of Alfred Korzybski. Van Vogt's book, Slan, has some of the first mutants in science fiction

Pulse Rifle from Aliens would be cool.

The rifle from 'Oldman's War" is amazing, one of the best scifi rifles without being completely OP, but too heavy if you're not superhuman and have a Brain Pal tm* it's useless

BR55 battle rifle from Halo has always been a favorite

LAPD 2019 Blaster from Blade Runner, just because it looks so fricking cool and im a fan

Was going to say this. Those batteries have some crazy lore, like, leave them in a campfire overnight and they'll also charge. If just the battery could be reverse engineered, it would be a massive technological breakthrough.

If you could replicate the battery it would instantly become the entire technological basis of human civilization.

Imperail batteries are amazing if you think about it. Given the fact that a lasgun can recharge 1-2 shots a day from ambeiant energy alone a flashlight using that battery would run forever. Being the Imperium your flashlight might also be several thousand years old.

at the point you come in the military has BEEN deployed and got wasted.
what you want is a police station or a gunstore with ammo vending machines for 5.56
take some quests and find the one where you have to retrieve something from a military convoy, and you will get an M4 or something better.

didn't find any in police cars, or military corpses, or humvees
so i said frick it and gave myself an m4, some attachments, and ammo
makes sense in my head cannon of my playthrough that I'd stumble upon it anyway

I need to hammer home something here that might not be that obvious since normal video game logic would say otherwise.
in CDDA, weapons were the first things looted.
cars are not a good source for that.
for food, water, and some hand-tools, yes.
military ones are good for stripping down and taking parts from... MAYBE yielding a weapon if lucky.
the earliest way to run into decent weapons is in a random spawn in a pawnshop safe, a non looted gunstore, or from a quest that might spawn a concentration of zombies with guns.
you really CAN just stumble across it in the hands of cops and soldiers, but its usually a 5% chance
there are places to go looking for them and loot them.
police stations often have securely locked armories full of a bunch of ammo and a few guns
you might be able to spoof a keypad, but usually the best way in is to weld the door down with an acetylene torch
guns arent a good go-to either unless you are prepared to use it on an entire horde or get out fast.
          too loud.
it will save your ass if something scary comes up, but that is something to work towards rather than go for right off the bat.

also the grind is a good thing because if you want to run rifles you should be looking for the random drop krav maga manuals.
that martial art is one balanced and made for people already using a gun that got forced into melee range.

you COULD camp out in a city and just start slaughtering zombies, taking time, and try to get more interesting types spawning.
the best bet for an ar-15 is gonna be a paramilitary zombie

            interesting
grind can be good but tbh I don't have the patience anymore, unless it is very well done so I cheat occasionally
also I've leveled up some martial art to be able to somewhat reliably kill zombies with hands, so that's cool

brawling is good if you get it high enough, but until then it sucks.
if you go nuts and dissect everything you can hope to learn stuff from, you will become far more dangerous in combat as well.
first you learn anatomy... but then you start learning vulnerabilities, which the combat RNG will then start trying to target more often.
              Zombie is wearing kevlar?
              So what?
You will more often than not slash him in unprotected areas and literally ignore that kevlar armor.

Anyways, if you don't have the patience why bother with CDDA?
Or just make a custom starting profession with the stuff you want to start with.
