They can launch Tomahawks at the DF-21s the Chinese are planning on launching at US ships and destroy half of the shit on the coast from an undisclosed location and leave after. The seamen inside will be eating lobster and steak for dinner while Chang is picking up pieces of Wang and also Chong.

      >Wang and also Chong
Was Wang trying to launch a Chinese-only rebrand? Was Chung available for comment?

Anyone who paid attention to WW2 naval history and the GWOT already know the capability of submarines. Don't be autistic anon.

They can launch missiles and have a higher chance of getting away with it than surface ships

i hope some American sub gets blown up in the Taiwan strait and then gets salvaged by China for technology. Just imagine all the rage from mutts and screaching.

Same goes for any Aircraft carriers that China will sink. Some of them could have intact airframes left inside of them, so China could lift up and salvage literally intact planes and missiles for reverse engineering.

But of course any war in the sea is a boon for beachgoers because all kinds of parts get washed ashore, parts of the missiles, parts of the planes, lost torpedoes, orange boxes, personal things of sailors lost, maybe some missiles that fail to hit the target and expend their fuel, will be floaty and also end up on the beach. So much fun!

Watch the CSIS war game report on Taiwan, it’s on YouTube and it briefly covers the role that submarines would fill. They pretty much just say that they will be very useful and important in a potential fight against China.

They won’t be useful. The Strait is too shallow for any submarine to effectively operate without being detected. Additionally you’re nuts if you don’t think China has an extensive hydrophone network covering the whole region. Taiwan’s minor naval assets will be blown up by air power.

Sneak behind the commander of the ground force and cut it's throat from behind.
It's a very technical maneuver involving paragliding.

Worthless, since Taïwan strait is too shallow.

Strait itself is too shallow to do much, but submarines can still launch cruise missiles onto land targets. While attack sub can go hunting for Chinese naval assets that go into the Pacific, or take out shipping trying to enter an exclusion zone. A war with China would be about surface assets and air power.

Very important. USN SSNs could close the Straights of Malacca to Chinese shipping and starve them of Oil and Food.

It's all within missile range and I'm sure, in the confusion, some particularly daring sub commanders would go skulking about in a few hundred feet of water to find some mk48s a new owner. At shallow depth and low speed the mk48 can be fired at quite a long distance.

The real question is what happens when Mexico invades the Great Wall of Muttländia? Should I be scared? Will I have to leave Texas?

Make it so that even if your entire country gets nuked to oblivion you still have a system of delivering nuclear weapons to your enemy. Nuclear submarines guarantee MAD because the guarantee that everybody gets hit even if you could get the first strike.
